The closest I can think of is if Eric only tries for immunity if a certain person is leading. If the person they want to save is close then Eric lets them win because he has the HII as backup. The others would all have to play along and let the person win. That way it is not as obvious as just giving the necklace away and leaving himself unprotected.
He'd probably wonder why they'd give him an HII before the immunity challenge though. If they suggest that he take the idol and then lose immunity on purpose to let someone else get it, it would make just as much sense for him to win the immunity challenge and then give that idol to the person they want to save...that way at least Erik makes sure the person they want gone doesnt get immunity.
