The fan starts out enthusiastic but clueless, helpless, can't start a fire, can't build a shelter, etc. They learn through bad strategy, bad votes, startling twists, micronesion grandfathers, Probst tribal council comments, and campfire wisdom from the oldtimers, until at last they are ready to take their place besides the favorites at the final tribal council.
