I feel helpless right now. I will have to buy all new food. This thing is only 3 1/2 years old.

that sucks ass. do you have a cooler with ice? put the milk and stuff in there.
put anything that's freezable in the freezer and keep it closed until you can get it repaired. |

The freezer part is not cold enough either.
I took a hairdryer and ice pick to it to try and clear any kind of air flow blockage, but it's still not getting cold. CHRISTMAS MIGHT BE RUINED. |

Went on vacation once and the fridge broke - some of our food went bad. The repair guy came, fixed it, and then the owners tried to say we turned the dial to
the wrong setting. (Yeah, that's why he was there for an hour..lol)
Idiots. Like I don't know how to use a fridge. :eyeroll: LIKE I DON'T SPEND HALF MY LIFE THERE STUFFING MY FACE! |

We had problems with our fridge (about 10 yrs old) where the coils would ice over. When the coils were iced over, it would never turn off, but the fridge part
wouldn't be cold and the freezer started to melt. After multiple service calls, and the same problem coming back, we decided to buy a new fridge in
September. I love my new fridge! IT ALWAYS WORKS!

you vacuum wherever the coils are don't you? sometimes they're under, sometimes in back.

this happened to me two thanksgivings ago. i had just filled the fucking thing and nothing froze/cooled. i live in vt so we took the doors off it and put it in
the porch overnight pressed against the wall so everything stayed super cold until i got a new one the next day.

The poor thing is also saying the unexpected cost of a new fridge may cut into their budget for Christmas.

i rent; i didn't pay for it. but, that's where a credit card (sears whatnot) comes in handy.

My aunt had this happen and her home insurance replaced some of the food cost .Check your fridges warranty-some bigger problems like the condenser are
sometines warranteed for 5 years.

is it ever worth having them repaired?
i kind of hate the coils underneath deal cuz you just cannot vacuum them very well - it's just a poke and a jab down there where you don't know what you're doing and you hope for the best. |

Have you tried plugging it back in?

The light works in the fridge, so it's plugged in.
Also, I want to punch Katie A. from the Kenmore Troubleshooting site in the face: RE: Troubleshooting Kenmore Refrigerator Ice Maker This will sound obvious, but make sure the wire arm that tells the icemaker it's full is DOWN. As the ice bin fills, the arm goes up to tell the machine to stop making more until some is used. But you can also just push the arm up to stop the icemaker. Maybe that happened by accident? Plugged In. Light On. And I'm sure the dial is maxed up.

I have it on the "recommended setting," which is in the middle.

I hate kenmore myself, I currently have a kenmore gas stove with electronic ignition {which I hate with a passion, because we lose power weekly here and you
cannot use the friggin stove with electronic ignition in a power failure} I ran the oven cleaner to get it ready for the big baking comming up and the damned
door lock will not release, so it's either the computer or celinoid {sp} that is screwed. The lovely repair man came out and charged me 78 dollars to tell
me never buy kenmore as they cost a fortune to fix and the parts are overpriced. So he wanted more than I paid for the stove to fix it. I am currently on the
hunt for a decent old time gas stove with no computers or electronic ignition on it.
