I am interested in a little discussion about a couple of areas. - Shambo asking about what Erik, was that to make her seem dense, or to not have considered booting the Galu leader and therefore wondered who was being considered? She wanted a Foa gone first, as was well explained by then. - Did you feel they rushed Dave's decision to get rid of Erik? I know the result, but felt a little was left out.I got the woman's decision from Galu, but felt it was skimmed over how Dave went for it. Brett, I'm not surprised. - Okay, we'll see next week if the idols come back (a la MicroVille) or not (China). If there's no exile island, is the picking to be sent off done? - When/If I ever get another house, I'd like to build that IC game, it made Tball (the world's lamest sport) look fun. (Sorry, when I was 5 we played full pitch baseball.) - More Edgically based, think about the 3 Galu girls - we don't know much about them, but they've consistently gotten that annoying, just N for N's sake edit, per the feud with Shambo. Wallduck taught me well about the disaster of the UTRN edit, a sure loser. They aren't characters, they are bits to explain Shambo's actions. The question is, what is the end result? Does Shambo knock off the girls and she's done story wise? Do you feel Dave/John/Brett have been tainted with the same brush with their comments? Or was the specific Shambo/Laura feud pushed forward affect what you think should be the viewer's opinion of the Galu biatches? - Like to have people go over Jaison's entire edit. Numbers aren't a problem. Was the quantity of the quitting angle a death knell for him? Was it to keep "poor pitiful Foa Foa" as an issue to surprise the viewer at the merge? And my biggest issue with him, is he an OTT character in definition? Michael

Mick got that, so I'm satisified. I am still waiting for where I "changed my mind" on how a UTR eliminates someone in the merge episode (because it doesn't, but you claim I did).

Brett - UTR1 - I bumped him up from INV due to the Aiga stuff. Doesn't really matter. Dave - UTR1 - maybe UTR2 to differentiate him from Brett. Erik - CPN4 - I could see OTTN4 for the Tribal Council discussion. Jaison - CPP4 - I could see MOR but his speech at TC made me give him CP. I still can't see him winning, not after his random tone fluctuations pre-merge. His edit just doesn't seem very manipulated to me; it seems too real and accurate to be the winner. John - CP3 - maybe a slight N due to Dave thinking that his plan is messed up (which it is), but that hasn't been confirmed to the viewer yet. Kelly - UTR1 - tempted to give her UTR2 because it seemed like she had more than this. Laura - CPN3 - the anti-Shambo. Mick - UTR1 - too many details seem off with him. Monica - UTR2 - same old, same old Natalie - CP2 - I could see MOR. Good edit, comment about the merge (the Hilton confessional), and her edit seems to be picking up like Bob's, Danni's... Russell - CPN5 - Doubt. Good. Shambo - MORM4 - not sure about this but for the most part, same as usual - she gets the "likable but stupid" edit.

Mick's edit, for the merge, wasn't the greatest--obviously--but I don't think it was bad. You don't have to agree on that. The fact remains, for me, that Mick's edit this week does not hurt him insofar that it puts him below anybody else. I would be absolutely stupid to eliminate Mick, especially since I'm rather content with his merger episode overall. (How the fuck does that get translated into dissmissal, moron?) End of story. Sorry everybody for completely disrupting the thread with a back-and-forth (eek this is becoming a common occurance with me, isn't it?) I just get annoyed when people say completely false things regarding things I've said (aka twist things or take them out of context). I just needed to prove my point to person x, which I did successfully. I was right and now we can move on :) --- I'm not seeing the CPs for Laura. I think I need to stress that strategy does not equal CP. She was strategic, of course, but she was pretty much simplified as the head honcho bitch who was getting cocky. Russ H came to her and she was all "You have nothing to offer me. I'm 90 and you're 10". It reminded me of the movie Matilda: "I'm right you're wrong I'm big you're small and there's nothing that you can do about it!" Especially when Russ H says that you're being a cocky bitch, that probably isn't the best. Although I think we can all agree that Shambo is loony, the edit worked in her favor in her feud against Laura. Laura looked ridiculous (SPV from Erik) and like a bully. Also, most of the audience was probably excited to see Laura being the one going, but she won immunity. That kind of build up and disappointment is OTT. I'm going with OTTN3 for Laura. We didn't learn much from her in terms of complexity. "We're going to need to blindside Russ at somepoint. I doubt he was going to give it to me". Not really CP. More cocky and egotistical. I'm going with OTTN3 for her. I'm going for (CP) toneless for RussH. All business. all action, the positivity of his actions reflected on his tribemates (Natalie, Jaison, Mick) and his ruthlessness cancelled out any P for him. You could go for M, but I think there was little intention of tone this week for him (yeah, his I'm King shit was annoying, but I'm trying to see where the editors were going with him this week). The fluctuation wasn't significant enough. I think all the Foa Foas--minus RussH--were P (I'm giving Jaison MORP4 and Mick UTRP1). There was a sense of uphill battle with them and want for victory. They finally had it, but then they lost it when Laura won IC. Then they got it back with last-minute scrambling, but got shoved dirt in their faces at TC by Erik. Foa Foa was given screentime as a group a lot of this episode rather than individuals. Everyone playing their part to survive an extra 3 days. I'm also going with CPP2 for Natalie. Her edit this week was significant to the change in the game. Two of her confessionals were about her using her personal relationships to infiltrate Galu. The first was her saying how she has to find a crack, the second being how she found a crack and how she tried to reason with them to let go of one extra person. That's significant insight for Natalie--they could have given RussH the entire credit, and they could have not given Natalie confessionals, but she got the confessionals on what exactly she was doing and that's insightful player manipulation--thus, CP. I really don't know, but I think I'm going with OTTP4 for Sham. She was editted as the victim in everything (note the music) that Laura was saying to her, even though probably in reality Shambo was being unreasonable. Sham then got the scene of happiness at the feast and on a sugar high--on top of the world. Then she gave constant hope to the Foa Foans, which is P in itself. I think she was the force against OTTN Laura and a hero in a sense. I know many of you don't like her, but it's pretty clear that the editors wanted to make her look like a rootable character this episode--I'm going with OTTP4. Lastly, Monica. I think it was pretty clear when Russ H said that Monica didn't believe what he was saying that she was made to look deceitful. I'm going with UTRN for her... Kidding :) I'm going with MOR2 for Monica. I think her involvement as the decoy (many people discussed her as the boot), connection to Laura, and scene with RussH give her MOR territory. She wasn't hidden. MOR2 for Mon! Other ratings I care less about but feel just as strongly in: MOR3 for John, OTTN5 for Erik, and INV for Brett I'd also be interested to see more cases for Jaison. So if that's the case, how does Jaison fit into the Russell Black Hole of sucking all edit analysis through him? The big question mark about Jaison is the "worst decision I ever made was to go on Survivor" meme. It's shown up in several forms, including in this most recent ep, where he said (in essence, I don't have the exact quote): As long as Erik goes before me I'm happy. IN a normal year, these are bad. But this is the Russell year, and we must examine these quotes through this prism. I can't imagine how anyone can call these "winner quotes." But does that automatically put them into the "loser's quotes" category? (This is all edit speculation, and because he's not my numero uno pick I may be grasping here...) Jaison is the Yin to Russell's Yang. As Russell's star wanes Jaison's is waxing. (please, no critiques of astronomical allegories, thankyouverymuch.) We saw more sound analysis and strategy out of him in this episode than the rest of the non-Russell foafoa in the entire year combined. Yes, even including Natalie. Russell suddenly seemed weak and unsure. Jaison suddenly seemed observant, in the loop, and in control. Yeah, we can analyze how others were also in on the boot Erik decision. The thing is, the editing pointed the "complex strategic player at the merge who gets what's going on" arrow right at Jaison's noggin. So how do we rationalize the "Lousy decision to go on survivor" stuff out of his mouth? 1) The conditions sucked. Even JP's voiceover confirmed that they endured the lousiest stretch of weather of any survivors in the show's history. Everyone was shown as thoroughly miserable (with one exception.) Jaison wasn't the only one to comment on it. Heck, every comment, every image, indicated misery. But he was the leader of the comments, so to speak. He personalized it, and at the time I bet he absolutely believed that being there sucked big time. He articulated every single edit shot we saw of both tribes. 2) with two exceptions. Russell and Russell. One of them was miserable but kept working, and it destroyed him. The other was RH, and he mocked all the pansies who hated the weather. My initial reaction when I saw him out in the rain doing makework was WTF? It seemed almost unreal that he loved it so. Was it just bluster for the camera, or did he actually enjoy it? Regardless, the two opposites were RH vs. Everyone else. And the person who articulated Everyone Else was Jaison. He looked miserable. His skin had the appearance of some horrid tropical malady. He articulated his misery quite nicely. Yin and Yang. That was the "high point," so to speak, of Russell power. Now the tide is turned. He's out of the loop, seems lost, gave up his idol for no good reason (and note: None of the other FoaFoas told Russell that he was safe, or he didn't believe them. He wasted his totem, his proof of how smart he is by finding it sans clues. His own distrust of others is his downfall. If you think everyone is your inferior it's hard to trust them.) So Jaison has switched roles with RH as the mastermind of the foafoafour. And he is trustworthy where RH was not. He is open where RH was not. Normally I would call this a redemption edit (okay, that's exactly what I did call it in several posts). But maybe this isn't a redemption edit, but simply the opposite to RH's edit. Strong and evil becomes weak and evil, just as weak and good becomes strong and good. That's as good as I can do at 'splainin' away Jaison's non-winner comments. Anyone else wanna try?
