But not only did he not read his stump speech about the HII rules, Probst looked absolutely startled when Russell stood up. Something was wiggy somewhere.

I would say that Probst skipped the HII spiel on purpose, hoping that Erik would NOT play his idol and be blindsided, thereby causing Probst to moisten his panties again. No sense in ruining a good blindside and risk reminding Erik that he has an idol he could/should play.

But did you notice how when Probst looked at the HII, he was holding it like it was a dead ferret? And then grudgingly acknowledged that it was in fact a real HII, having been deprived of the chance to toss another Mr. Stick into the fire? This is totally grassy knoll territory here, but: Maybe EPMB didn't want to tell Probst that HII's were a part of this season until he needed to know?

He was so happy that he actually got an extra few lines to read. I am getting so sick of him narrating challenges lately. He seems to explain every little tiny thing. I re-watched Survivor Africa lately and even as far back as that, you can see him starting to over-narrate the endurance challenges. I mean, what the fuck? How much can you narrate when three people are holding on to a pole and the one who holds on longest wins? What the fuck is there to say about that? But, Probst seems to find a way to somehow make these challenges more about him than about the contestants. Poor Jiffy is just starved for attention I guess. If I was him, I would have tried like Hell to hook up with Danni Boatwright and to have settled down with her. IMO she was the most beautiful lady contestant ever. But on the good side, tonight was one of the best shows in a long time. The show was half over before we ever heard from Probst.

But to the people who never went to EI, they thought there was just one idol, found on EI. Jeff asked then. In China, Jaime had to interject, too, to play the piece of wood that she thought was an idol. After that, Jeff gave his spiel each time.
