I was first psyched about the cast -- Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire and Natalie Portman -- all of whom I love, but the trailer has a very edge-of-your-seat
feeling to it.

omg i just watched the trailer and I think I re-love them! Although Tobey looks like an AIDS patient
And it would have made more sense to have Jake as the war guy, but I suppose that would have been too Jarhead-y. I WANNA SEE THIS!!!<3 |

Dear God . This looks fucking terrible and poorly cast. The material is somewhat self indulgent but the original 3 actors make it believable and grounded.
Gyllenhaal is the only one who can bring the Gravitas and maturity the role needs. Portman and Spidey are gonna turn this into a angsty melodrama because
neither has the chops to handle adult roles.

I think this was really well cast -- on the one hand, Tobey and Jake look EXACTLY like brothers, so I think that is very believable. As for handling the
material, these three are some of the finest young actors their age. It's heavy material, but I can't think of anyone else who could handle it.
Did you see Natalie in Cold Mountain? That was intense and beautiful -- and I think she'll bring that to this role. |
