Lol, could you imagine Kupono's solo dance to somewhere over the rainbown on the new stage? That new stage would make that horrible solo 100 times worse. It would make him look like a person just sitting there.

I actually didn't like Noelle's solo. I wonder if the stage is the issue. I am actually impressed by the solos compared to season 5, but I am
incredibly concern that we will have a bunch of bad solos because of the ginormous stage. I also realized that past ballroom dancers (Anya, Benji, Faina)
loved using the stairs from the old stage in their solos. Looks like the new ballroom dancers are going to have to do something else, since the stairs are
gone.

I never thought about ballroom dancers not being able to use the stairs; it's actually quite important for some of them, since the railing gives them
something to hold on to (like a partner substitute), and really allows them to get creative.
Benji. Anya, Faina, and even Lacey and Chelsie all had good moments using the stairs. |

I hate Tyce and his choreography, but isn't corny part of the definition of Broadway/Theatre? Like cheesy is part of the definition of Disco? I think
"You Can't Stop the Beat" was a group routine and the evangelist routine was done by Benji/Donyelle.
Some of the other good choreographers are repeating themselves, too. It'd be helpful to have a bigger stable on which to draw. |

I hate that my favorite dancer on this show goes by the name of LEGACY. Ugh, can't we call him Dan or something? I love Dans. At this stage, a Dan/Ellenore
final two would make me monstrously happy.
**And yes, I know Legacy's actual first name is Jonathon, but please, that's not a dancer's name. I'm so glad that scary-faced Gregory Hines knock-off is off the show. His face expressions disturbed me. I"m a little sad to see Bye Ancker leave because I wanted to hear the different ways the judges pronounced her name. |

I am really digging the fact that I LIKE Legacy. I hated him and wondered why the hell he was even here at this stage, and now he is proving me wrong. I love
it when my expectations are defied like that. Apparently, as well, Legacy IS a real name (maybe not HIS real name, but a real name nonetheless) translated from
Spanish.
As far as Tyce's choreography this week: It was among the worst dances he has ever done, because as much as it was lacking in his usual corn, it was completely out of place. He had these lovely jetees and the like... in a dance about being overcome with the Holy Spirit? It was just SO lacking. I usually do not mind Tyce. His stuff is neither horrid nor great for me, most times. He certainly is more of a Hoboken Dinner Theater choreographer than a Broadway choreographer, for sure; but he is not usually this severely questionable in his choices. And again, people, Broadway dance is not really a style. People say it is supposed to be cornball; but if you watch some of the old movies with Bob Fosse or Jerome Robbins choreography, you will realize that much of it is quite strong and credible dancing. The big prob is that the backup dancers are usually the ones who really bust it out in actual stage routines. Most of the stars are focused on singing and interacting with each other, so the minor characters are the ones who really do the amazing dance (which makes it an unusual choice to spotlight on this show, which is all about being right in the spotlight). |

Remington Steele wrote: No. Tyce choreographed Benji & Donyelle in "You Can't Stop The Beat". From Wikipedia:
The judges raved, and even considered it one of the best dances of the season, and Donyelle chose it as her favorite piece to highlight at the finale. I thought it was a patronizing shitfest... "Corny" is a cliched misinterpretation of what Broadway is. BAD Broadway routines are corny; the good ones can be sublime. |

Just coming back from Google myself. "Broadway" is NOT a style, but "theatre" and "jazz" ARE styles.
I used to like all broadway routines a lot more than I do now (yes, even Fosse), so maybe the corn level is more a reflection of changing tastes. Many of the older musicals seem quaint and old-fashioned. |

Yeah, Rem. Most of what we consider "Broadway" is actually Jazz. Most would also argue that "theater" is not a style. What, for example,
are signature moves of "theater" dance? Most dancing for theater comes out of the Modern Dance movement, which was derived from classical. Some of
the earliest theater dance was derived from social and ballroom dance. From the Modern, things evolved into Jazz, Hip-Hop, "Contemporary." Even now,
Broadway Dance is shifting: Shows like "Stomp" have brought a different emphasis, and now many Broadway choreographers are attempting more
"street" (ugh...) stylings.

Broadway draws from all different styles. What many of us think of as "Broadway" style (Fosse, Robbins) is probably jazz, but there are dozens of
shows that are definitely tap shows (e.g. "42nd Street" or "Thoroughly Modern Millie"). Some shows have ballroom, some shows have
hip-hop... Heck, I've seen country line-dancing in a Broadway show.
I think that what this show calls Broadway is either any style of dance done to a song from a Broadway show or a jazz dance that is highly character-based. I don't mind the ambiguity, though, because other styles they do on the show such as hip-hop are also pulling from a broad range of actual dance styles. |

The misnomer with Broadway is that they (Tyce, usually) do (does) a dance based on a Broadway song, using overly literal symbolism and props, and then lead the
world to believe this is what we would see on Broadway. With the exception of something cheesy like LEgally Blonde, we usually would see nothing remotely
similar on Broadway.

It was this Tyce piece that pissed me off. So awful. I know that Donyelle and Heidi had a less of a chance of winning compared to the other two guys, but this piece pretty much sunk their chances. I seriously thought Tyce was sabotaging them. And the fact that Lauren assisted this piece makes me hate this piece even more. |

Ugh, I still get pissed just thinking about that routine. Worst thing is that he returned to choreograph another shitty broadway for Katee and Courtney in the finals in season 4 that was just as bad: Tbh, the only Top 4 girls routine I've liked so far is Mia's in season one, that's kinda sad.

Natalie <333333 goes to show that its not impossible to find people for this show who are amazingly talented (no, not the kind where they need the judges to cry and shove it down our throats to make us see) with personality watching this solo just makes me realize how far downhill this show has reached.... 1. The new stage - it looks so fucking sterile, not inspiring at all, and way too huge especially with that distracting projection screen. Bring back the stairs which played a role in a lot of the choreography and solos, bring back the more personable size, bring back the entrance/exit at the back, bring back the goddamn BALCONIES for Cat Deeley 2. The camera work - what.the.fuck. this ain't no live show, this is filmed days before the broadcast, there is NO reason as to why such shiteous camera work is presented. Almost all the time they can't even get a couple in a proper frame and they always tend to miss some parts of the choreography because of bad timing and camera-positioning. 3. Cat Deeley - I still think she's a godde.ss and one of the main reasons why I still watch this shitfest but lately she's becoming a caricature or a parody of herself. From her horribly cheesy introductions to dances to her increasingly annoying blurbs of randomness, Deeleygodd.ess needs to turn it down a notch 4. Adam Shankman needs to GTFOff my screen 5. Mary Murphy has, again, become a parody of herself 6. Nigel Lythgoe is the antichrist, king of rigging, and unable to accept that SANDRA WILL FOREVER BE THE FIRST TAPPER EVER!!111!one!!11! |

I love how Bianca and Phillip didn't even make top 16, meaning Sandra made it farther than they did.
Sometimes I think that people are too hard on the newer seasons, and that they are taking their fading interest of the show out on the show itself (as in, the show is not getting worse, but we've seen so much of it that we aren't getting anything new, and it's boring), but then I watch routines from old seasons (I LOVE Natalie's Some Girls solo, and Allison is still amazing) and I realize how wrong I am.
