Anyone know anything about head injuries? |

An ex coworker and good friend flew off an ATV into a tree without a helmet. She had two surgeries and was in a medically induced coma for a couple weeks. She
has definitely suffered brain damage, to what extent won't be known until she begins to recover. They had to remove parts of her skull to allow the
swelling to occur and not do more damage. Got an update yesterday. Her "bolt" was removed from her head as the ICP stayed below the threshold of
concern. The parts removed from her skull may be replaced in a couple of months. As of Friday, swelling had not yet appreciably decreased. She is off the
ventilator but still breathes through her tracheostomy supplemented with humidified oxygen. The most recent MRI showed that she has had some small strokes on
both sides of her brain which is partly responsible in taking so long for her to wake up. Tuesday last week her man said goodbye to her (she was in one of her
few "awake" periods - her eyes were open) and he swears she rolled her head towards him and "looked" at him. Her sister walked up on the
other side of the bed and she rolled her head towards her, and "looked." (Parentheses are because she is not focused on anything)
Should I hold out any hope or write her off? Anyone know about this crap? |

What do you mean "write her off"? Do you get to decide whether or not to pull the plug?

This is just an elaborate way of asking if you'll ever have a chance to bang her, isn't it? If her man already said goodbye, then she's technically
fair game, fwiw.

Head injuries typically occur in the area of the body above the neck.

I was in a motorcycle accident when I was 17.. cracked my head open big time. I was in a coma for 3 days and had a headache for about a month after, but fully
recovered after time.
What do her doctors say about her prognosis? |

Her daughter is smokin' fuckin' hot. Mayhaps this would be a good time to "console" her. |

What do her doctors say about her prognosis? They don't know squat 'till she becomes alert, if she ever does. JOKE TIME! Chick is in a coma. Doctors have tried everything, nothing works. One day the nurse is giving her a sponge bath and when she starts washing her naughty bits the monitors start beeping and coming to life. She runs and gets the doctor and tells him what happened. He has her show him exactly what she did and the monitors show increased activity again. The doctor thinks a bit and then calls the husband. Doc tells hubby what's up and says "Well, now this may seem a little strange but I was thinking if you had oral sex with her something may happen. I'm not promising anything but it's worth a shot if you wanna give it a try. We'll take all the monitors outside and close the curtain so you can have privacy." Hubby agrees and they get all set up. Hubby goes behind the curtain and Doc watches the instuments closely. They start moving just like before. After a while, suddenly, everything flatlines. He rushes in and whips open the curtain. "What happened?!?!?" As hubby finishes zipping up he says "I dunno, I think she choked." |

Bummer, CP...one of my best buds had a major stroke a week ago. He remembers stuff, but out of context! He thinks we went to high school together, for one
thing, and he thinks he's in the 70's. He was paralyzed from the waist down in a welding explosion in 1981, but has now had to relive the hell of
learning he's crippled. The stroke wiped out some of his memories and jumbled others. This could happen with your pal, too. As the brain recovers from the
trauma, it may re-route neural pathways to recover memories and abilities. Head injuries are about the most difficult recovery to predict, since we barely even
understand how the brain works. Good luck to your friend and all...

Head injuries are very unpredictable, no two people ever recover in the same way. The younger she is the better chance of neurons forming new connections,
hence a better overall recovery. Just know that recovery is an ongoing process for months/years/life and the person may recover but have no idea who/what your
relationship was or even be the "same" person they were before.
