With all the shekels the Yankees have to throw around, you'd think they'd at least not have to skimp on their starting rotation. Mussina must feel like
an idiot now for retiring without a ring.

Funny. That was the best I've seen Joba pitch this year. He completely blew away the 1st 2 batters Werth and Ibanez but got to a full count against Feliz.
Everyone knew the fastball was coming. Should have broken off a slider. Even Helen Keller would have drilled that.

so Manuel didn't throw Lee on three days rest in gm 4 and now he should start in gm 7 on two days rest? oh ok
considering the Phils pen is in shambles, unless they bomb Pettitte and CC the only way I see them winning this series is if they beat this guy....
Fatcesa thinks Girardi should use Rivera for three innings tomorrow.

I would imagine he'd be fine in middle relief if necessary on two days rest, since most pitchers throw on the side on the third day. Starting him would be
absurd, but I can see Hamels starting, and then getting the instant hook for Lee for 3 innings or so if he sucks.

now that makes sense.
I'd start Happ though.....Hamels is cuckoo for cocoa puffs |

Both Hamels and Lidge are on suicide watch.
(well, if they aren't they should be). I can see Hamels starting game 7, pitching four innings or so, Lee coming in to pitch three innings, then Park then Madson. I hate to say it, but KEEP LIDGE AWAY FROM THE YANKEES. |

Have A-Rod's lips always been purple or is this a new thing? I never noticed it before. |

So do you think Bob Gibson sits at home hearing all this commotion about pitching on short rest and gets an urge to send a case of tampons to clubhouses and
press boxes?

I'm not shocked, but this still SUCKS. Rays working on Iwamura deal DEVELOPING: Just got back to New York and heard from an industry source who's not with the Rays that they are on the verge of completing a trade of 2B Akinori Iwamura. The Rays were looking to do some kind of deal since they weren't planning to pick up the $4.85-million option to bring him back. What's interesting is that the source indicated the deal wasn't with the Cubs or the Dodgers as has been speculated on but to an unexpected team. Hmmm. The Rays are operating under something of a deadline since they have until one day after the end of the World Series to either pick up the option or pay a $550,000 buyout and allow Iwamura to become a free agent. They have been working on essentially a sign-and-trade deal, where they would get something back for him. It would probably be too big of a gamble for them to pick up the option without having a deal in place. Iwamura hit .281 in three seasons with the Rays after coming over from Japan, playing third in 2007 and second the last two seasons. He sustained what was considered a season-ending knee injury in May of this year, but made an unexpected recover and rejoined the team for the final month, playing 69 games total. He has a career .354 on-base percentage. Iwamura, 30, indicated a preference to stay with the Rays, but they are talking about using either Ben Zobrist or Sean Rodriguez, or a combination of the two, at second next season. UPDATE, 4:16: The team the Rays are dealing Iwamura to is the Pirates.

So two teams who are about five pieces short of the puzzle decide to trade the pieces they already have.

LOL at Hamels pulling a starrider.

iwamura is redundant on the rays and the pirates are probably just flipping mediocre specs they got from someone else.

Not really anti - the Pirates got rid of Bay, Maclouth, and Nady a while back. The Rays didn't start until after this year's all-star break, because believe it or not, Pat the Splat was actually supposed to help them this year. :sigh Bilkis is right, though. His early season injury kind of showed that there is depth at 2B. |

On three days' rest, Gibson pitched a 10-inning win in Game 5 and then, on two days' rest, pitched a complete-game victory in Game 7. Fucking badass. unfortunately the majority of us never got a chance to watch him pitch. |
