NCIS is #1 because young people have by and large stopped watching TV and turned to the internet (or actually living their lives), while the middle-aged and
elderly (NCIS' target audience) still continues to watch television.

NCIS is better than you would ever imagine. before I watched it I thought it sounded/looked lame, except at the time I didn't even fucking know what it was
about like some clueless people in this thread.

Because I'm tired of hearing people bitch and moan about the show being canceled because the ratings are low. It's among the least likely shows to be
canceled consistantly each year.

So, based on that chart, Survivor is the CBS show least likely to be cancelled?

Survivor is down from last week, of course, since last week had an incredible must-see event, but it's up a LOT from the episode that came prior. It was
11.99 the week before Russell's death. This week it was 12.65.

Mypoody2 wrote: Survivor didn't do too badly considering many viewers, from two major markets (NYC and Philly), who usually watch Survivor, recorded it on TIVO so that they could watch game 2 of the World Series. Meanwhile, FlashForward is looking like a flash in the pan. That would be true if FlashForward was on CBS but for ABC, 9 million is considered a hit. I expect that FlashForward will be renewed and that is actually good news for Survivor. |

As somebody noted in the comments section in TVbytheNumbers.com, due to baseball being a live event it was the 8pm block that took the biggest hit in ratings,
since the game was on at this hour in all three time zones. So our numbers (and Flashforward's) would have suffered more than any other shows. The numbers
held up nicely under the circumstances.

Speaking of sports, I don't get why people say Survivor is repetitive and sports aren't? With Survivor, you have a different location, theme, cast
members, and challenges every 6 months. Sports have been around forever and they change players every 2 decades.

Wow, this season is so backwards in terms of ratings. Ratings might have even gone up this week had it not been for baseball, but just the fact that they are
higher than the premiere's numbers is crazy. Hopefully Baseball won't damage next weeks ratings.

Quiddity wrote: But isn't the main appeal of a show like Survivor the mystery of who wins? Most people watch the show for the thrill of discovering who wins and loses, a quality that loses its punch when watched subsequently. This would explain the consistently good ratings of "American Idol" and DWTS. |

^But how in the world is that relevant to Survivor, a show that never airs repeats? We're not arguing the viability of DVDs of the show here, which have
been proven to not work for likely the very reason you mention. That's 100% irrelevent to Survivor's neilson ratings sans the recap episode, which is
always viewed as irrelevent anyway.
