I'm sure next year they will enjoy halloween in a very special way with a lot of fun and candies! Don't worry too much about possible long term effects that may result from prematurity. Rachel and Haley are blessed to be part of a special family. I am confident that they will be just fine. They have great parents, a loving Father, and several angels looking after them. Rachel looks a lot better. It really bothers me when she writes Haley "at her post" - where the hell else can she be? So so sad.

Hey, God is going to handle it for them just like he did for the previous 6 babies. Hmmm, if they really believe God is watching over them and will take care of them why are there 6 previous dead babies? Makes no sense but she hasn't from the first time I ever read about her. And I wouldn't be surprised if she goes out and buys them prom gowns to try on in their isolettes next. Her mind certainly works in mysterious ways. The only way though they get a wagon ride is if someone donates the wagon.

The big smiley photo at the funeral bugged me. I guess they put all three in one casket. X that little satin covered shoe box (assumedly with 3 babies in it) and the two parents standing there smiling was probably the most disturbing thing i've ever seen.

The only way though they get a wagon ride is if someone donates the wagon. How would they even get all that medical equipment in a wagon?

When they were infants, we'd dress them up and take them to the neighbors across the street/next door, but that was all. Except for the youngest, he was sick and never even wore his costume. Anyway, I think that they are starting to get scared. I know that I am. I see what age they are gestatioally now (almost 36 weeks) and realize what my twins (who were born at 37 weeks) could do around the same age, like breathe on their own, it's concerning. I really do hope and pray that they don't have any severe disabilities. It's kind of soon to tell though.

I've lurked in here for weeks now, and have had nothing specifically interesting to add, other than I completely agree that these religious freaks give all of us religious freaks a bad name. LOL It was unconscionable what they did in the name of religion, and what they continue to do to those poor innocent babies. Amanda's attitude by now goes beyond deluded, it's almost deliberate by now, just to prove her point.

If I were them I wouldn't have reduced either, although I'd have been as careful as possible to avoid producing 6 babies in the first place (and I did IUI myself and was careful, but never got pg that way.) However, I do not think that I'd have tried to save them when they were born so early, I really don't. At that age there's little hope of good recovery, as we've seen. Having had twins myself, these are issues I considered, although I was lucky enough to carry them full-term. I feel sad for the babies and the family. I do see how they give (us) religious freaks a bad name, but I think she's being misunderstood to some extent, some of what she writes sounds to me like she's trying to reassure herself, she must be terrified and exhausted and run down at this point. And it's going to be worse for them when those babies come home. Healthy twins are tons of work, medically fragile babies times two (not really twins I guess) has to be incredibly challenging to deal with. I assume they'll get some in-home nursing help. I'd picture myself daily worrying too, is the baby holding her head up yet, why can't she sit yet, etc. I realize that disabilities are a given, I just hope that they are not severe and can be mostly overcome, but who knows.

That has to be some kind of complication from edema or something. I really hope they don't lose another baby. Two developmentally disabled children will be hard on them however. I have to give Amanda credit; she does have a lot of faith in God and she doesn't seem the least bit bitter that all of this has happened. However, it is her doing that all of this has happened, so she really can't blame anyone else but herself.

Posts: 396 (11/02/09 8:01 AM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	Today started early with a call from our nurse practitioner Kim, who is very kind and caring. She called around 5 AM letting us know that Haley has an infection from her PICC line. Haley still had the PICC line for the TPN that she is still getting. Haley's PICC line was infected with yeast, the very same thing that our precious little Ashlyn initially got infected with. The good thing about it is that because of two wonderful and observant nurses Brandi, and Kodi it seems it has been caught early enough to treat, unlike Ashlyn. We are so grateful to Brandi and Kodi for being the kind of nurses they are. They are extremely good with our girls, and they are very good at what they do. They are not 100% sure yet if it is yeast, they will have a microbiologist look at it in the morning. They seem pretty confident that it is though. We just returned home from the NICU and Haley seemed just fine. They have put her on an anti-fungal medication called amphotericin. It is a terrible drug for the kidneys, but they are monitoring her closely. We spoke with Dr. Thompson this evening about the yeast, and she seemed upbeat about it. She said the signs look promising for Haley. Haley did not have to be re-intubated, her O2 requirements have not gone up, she seems to be more active since they started the medication. Those are good indications that the yeast has not spread through out her body. They will do different tests tomorrow to see if that is true or not. We hope they have indeed caught it early enough. We also pray that the amphotericin medication does not destroy her renal function. She has already had her issues with her renal function, we don't need any more. Thomas was able to give her a Priesthood Blessing this evening for this issue. We feel confident that she will be ok, and that they will not have to give the anti fungal medication for very long. I was able to hold Haley tonight and she did just fine in my arms. I adore this precious little girl, she is such a sweet little girl. Rachel seems to be on cruise control thus far. We hope that continues, we don't need her to get any yeast in her blood or any where else for that matter. Thomas was able to hold her this evening. She seemed to do just fine for him tonight. The last time Thomas held Rachel she was very agitated and that made Thomas a little nervous, he couldn't get her to calm down. Tonight was better for him, I could hear him singing I am a Child of God to her and He got a little emotional as he was singing to her, it was cute. I truly love and admire Rachel, she is such a beautiful little girl. We are proud of both our sweet girls, they continue to bring us such joy and happiness. We continue to trust in our Heavenly Father. We know that Heavenly Father is in control, he will always do what is best for all involved. He will not do anything that is not for our good. He loves us so very much, he will not allow us to suffer any more than is necessary for our growth and spiritual development. I know from first hand experience that He loves me, that he has been there for my family every step of the way. I know that I have a lot of growing to do, and I am grateful for the greatest tutorer (our Savior) who has and continues to guide us along. Haley with her teddy bear Rachel Sleeping on her side So the ups and downs continue. More magic blessings. That is one ugly green teddy bear.

EVERYONE deserves a chance at life. Choice, that's the difference. I don't care if Haley and Rachel go on to trick or treat next year and be elected co-prom queens in high school, I would still vehemently defend any parent of a 22 weeker's right to not resuscitate. I know absolutely if I delivered at 22 weeks I would beg the neonatalogist to just let me hold my baby and let it die peacefully in my arms. If there was a problem with that I would get up and walk out of the hospital. Most NICU nurses I know feel the same way.

How can Amanda and Thomas honestly believe that God makes these babies suffer so terribly just to provide the opportunity for THEM to grow? So God uses the babies as pawns? That's one fucked up God, if you ask me. In all seriousness, Amanda kind of concerns me. Seems like the type of crackpot that would do something horrible if she thought God wanted it. I'm starting to hope that she's not left alone with these kids too much, if and when they come home. Poor little Haley....she really doesn't need more problems. I feel so bad for both babies. I honestly don't know how these people can live with themselves after the suffering they've put these children through.

She worked with the four and five year olds. Most of these kids were micro preemies or had suffered from shaken baby syndrome. None of them could walk. Most of them were on feeding tubes and didn't even have a suck reflex. Their goals for the school year were things like "give a social smile" "respond to verbal stimulation." I assisted on a field trip to the mall at Christmas time. It positively broke my heart. I was in charge of pushing two strollers behind two kids. The kids weren't in the strollers, the equipment to keep these kids alive was in the strollers. This school averaged three students dying every year. My daughter worked there for one year, she couldn't take anymore.
