I'm absolutely loving Play On so far. I'm on "Someday When I Stop Loving You" now, it is really beautiful.

I don't post in these fan threads normally but I've totally noticed the lack of bullshit lately.

I'm really listening to the "Change" lyrics this time around and damn if its not giving me goosebumps.

Seriously, I'm loving this album. For me personally Carrie's albums are getting better with time. I loved Some Hearts but then after time I ended up liking Carnival Ride more than SH and I think upon a few more listens I will like Play On the best of them all. Its a continually upward slope with Carrie, for me anyways. She gets better and better as a vocalist, performer and song-writer as time passes and keeps on putting out music that I just can't get enough of all this years on.

As much as it makes me irate people like farmgirl Carrie Underwood continue to show what an amazing platform AI really can be, you just need to have that natural raw talent and star potential. American Idol just thrusts you into the spotlight, you really have to have the goods to make it work after wards.

Obviously I'm inherently biased since I've been a huge Carrie fan since her first audition on Idol but I can't say I really get or agree with some of the comments in the negative reviews I'm reading.
This one in particular from the LA Times:

As on 2007's "Carnival Ride," Underwood and producer Mark Bright lunge for one climactic crescendo after another at the expense of vocal nuance, lyric subtlety and even aural clarity, thanks to the excessive sonic compression again applied to most tracks.

I'm not entirely convinced they actually listened to the album if they truly think it lacks vocal nuance.

Whatever, there will always be negative reviews but I'm surprised considering how much I actually love this album. There's certainly more than a couple must downloads on it as most of the reviews imply or explicitly state.
