They made it clear last season that East Dillon had been closed for years. The way it probably worked (I'm inventing logical back story here) is that Dillon's population shrank to the point that only one high school was needed, and (west) Dillon was the better campus. Now the population is rising - this again is happening in middling-sized towns in Texas. So the school board decided that they needed to have two high schools again.

Yeah, there are holes in this. I remember Tammi telling a PTA (or some such) meeting last year that instead of one campus having over 2000 kids there will be two with slightly over 1,000. But 2K student body isn't all that huge, and even getting temp buildings onto the Dillon campus has got to be cheaper than the cost of opening a "new" school." How much would all-new computers, staff, paint, maintenance, desks etc. cost? Millions.

Also, these students at East Dillon all must have been going to Dillon - they just had a longer bus ride. Now regarding money in a district, it's allocated per student, so the $ available for teachers will not be any worse. The problem is that most ancillary costs, like for many sports, theatre, marching bands etc. are paid for by boosters. If there is no booster groups then there will be fewer defensive coaches or woodwind instructors or what have you. Getting any new school up to snuff in any of these sports and activities takes years, and much of it is to get the booster organizations up and running. If you have dedicated parents it really helps. If not, you're screwed.

East Dillon (if in the real world) would have a hell of a hard time. Who's the local Ford dealership going to support - the sad sack little school, or the championship-caliber school? If East Dillon looks sad and pathetic, that's how it would be in real life.

My gosh, that is a great show. Coach and Mrs. are still the best marriage in TV history. Mrs. Coach calling Tails and Offense were perfect! A wonderful, cheerful Texas-lady FU to the football team.

One question - what happened to Maggie O'Connell (oops - I mean Mrs. JD, Janine Turner.) I wonder if she and the JD's daddy are separated? And I did understand why JD was such an a**hole - he was still hurt that Coach Taylor took him out of the championship game. Yeah, it's juvenile and weak and childish, but that's who JD is, and Coach Taylor's correct action made JD's perfect world, where he's the star, crumble a bit. Some folks here think it was too big a switch for the character; I think it was spot-on based on how he was raised.

I thik what's so great about this show is that so much of it rings true, that the sweet stuff seems right, as does the uncomfortable stuff.

ETA: The link to view the show online tried to install a Trojan file on my PC. I don't know if it was benign or not (to me noTrojans are benign), but my Antivirus caught it and deleted it. Anyone else have this issue? If not, perhaps your Antivirus didn't catch it...
