Star Julie Bowen: ''I was eight-and-a-half months pregnant with twins while we shot the pilot. If you watch carefully, you see I'm behind every laundry basket. I'm answering the door folding towels. It was just a function of hiding my belly, but then it sort of became part of the character. Claire is always doing something. She's never hanging out. She's always folding or cleaning or doing something.''



Star Ty Burrell: ''The character is frightening close to myself. I don't have experience parenting, but I have tons of experience being an idiot. The way Phil is deluded about things - that's totally me. I used to think I was going to be a professional athlete, until I found myself around really good athletes and realized it wasn't true.''



Star Sofia Vergara: ''My character is very similar to myself. She's from Colombia, I'm from Colombia. She has a son, I have a son. I don't have to change my accent or anything. But it's great, because I know exactly how to feel - it's very easy for my emotions to come out. And I love her relationship with her son - she just thinks he's normal. That's so great.''



Star Ed O'Neill: ''They haven't decided yet where my character made his money. At one point, he was an auto accessory king - he owned like ten stores. Mag wheels and hot car stuff. But now, as far as I know, they're thinking of making him the Closet King - he owned a bunch of closet stores - but that could change.''



Star Jesse Tyler Ferguson: ''I originally auditioned for the role of Cameron, Eric Stonestreet's character. But on the page I responded more to the Mitchell character. So I asked if I could read for that part - they said no. But then when I read for Levitan and Lloyd, they were like, you know, you'd make a really good Mitchell. I don't know why nobody listened to me before....''



Star Eric Stonestreet: ''I applied for Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College in 1995. I almost made it. They had five clowns applying for two spots left. They send you either an acceptance letter or a rejection letter. The acceptance letter, of course, is filled with confetti, so when you open it up all the confetti comes out. I didn't get the letter with the confetti.''
