Helens downfall was that she didn't work hard enough on Jan at F5 to taken out Clay and put too much trust in the fact that Brian would eventually ditch Clay instead of forcing him to.

But Jan didn't want to pull rocks (or balls as she called them) so a tie was never going to happen. I know Jan didn't want to pull rocks, but that doesn't make it any less of a mistake. If she was a decent challenge competitor, I could somewhat understand her trying to win against two allies like Chris did, but she isn't. By voting for Helen, she settled for third place. Drawing rocks at least gives her a shot at making the finals (since Brian would never take Helen due to her likability). And Jan would have been in an even worse position had Clay left at the final 5. No way she makes it past 4th in that scenario.

In interviews, Probst has admitted that he messed up the tiebreaker in Marquesas where Paschal was eliminated. The actual tiebreaker rule is that the after the merger, if there is still a tie after a revote, all the players who receive votes become immune along with the holder of Individual Immunity. So the drawing rocks tiebreaker doesn't work at Final 4 because there is only one person left who is not immune. There wasn't another tiebreaker at Final 4 until Palau so who knows if Probst would have screwed up again for Thailand.

Things would have turned around. Old Alliances would have been broken, the pecking order would have changed, and potentially the outcome.
