And another thing...I think that Jakob is quite SUPERB at what he does, but I think that he should LIMIT the number of Jeanine-type kickback jump splits that
he does because he runs the risk of being dubbed a desperate trickster showing off gymnastics techniques (NIGEL) instead of a super advanced technician.

Isn't the Venezuelan girl's latin ballroom partner/boyfriend/husband next in line to replace a boy dancer -- in the unlikely event that one were unable
to fulfill his duties as a top ten boy dancer?

^For anyone who may have missed the show last night. That is part one and the other four parts are in video response and the user's page as well. |

Liked Wade's number.
Hate the new set/stage. It sucks out all the emotion and makes me feel too distanced from the dancers. Liked Mandy Moore's piece. Kind of meh on a lot of it. I think it's because of the stage. |

I have a feeling this season is going to suck. None of the routines were that great and the only dancers who stood out were Nathan, Billy, Ellenore, Karen and
the hip hop cornrow twins.
The new stage and Ashleigh need to go NOW! |

I love Travis' choreography. Mark Kanemura is also a choreographer, so maybe they could use him?
As far as the Hip hop, I actually thought it showcased the dancers really well and was exciting to watch. There were a few goofs, but this was one of the better routines by Nappy Tabs, I thought. It had energy and strength to it, and used the whole stage. |

For those of those who don't know Brandon Dumlao, he is the asian hip hop dancer, who got cut this year at the green mile.
And he also got cut in Season 5. At the same exact place (the green mile). Look its Pauline when she got cut last year!
So I am glad that he is going to be a replacement for the top 20. Although it sucks that he is going to have less rehersal time. He will also be very easy cannon-fodder unfortunately, we all remember what happend to Jimmy from season 3. |

I didn't watch the auditions or Vegas, so last night was the first time I got to see the dancers in action.
So if Adam is a permanent judge now, are they still going to do the rotating judges panel? Happy to see Ryan didn't make the cut again. One Kasprzak brother was enough. Wade definitely atoned for the cheerleading and football player routine at last season's finale. I felt that the hip hop routine would've been better if anyone other than NappyTabs choreographed it. The tap dancing routine was nothing special. In other news, I thought Bianca wasn't going to audition for the show anymore. Either way, she finally broke through this year. Mandy didn't use a song from the 80's? Color me shocked. I guess I'll learn more about the dancers on tonight's show. |

damn.. the new set makes me see all the flaws in every dance. I know they aren't professionals (yet) but dang.. I dont like the big ole stage.
I havent watched any of the auditions or vegas (except bits and pieces here and there) and I've been hearing all kinds of good things about this cast. I dont what they see that I dont...sadly not one person stood out to me. The whole show was blah... and that stage was awful and highlighted every mismatched step. |

Contemporary Dance is like Independent Film, for me: It doesn't always work, but for the most part it is more personal, more thoughtful and with more
honest emotions than other forms.
And actually there is QUITE a difference between Contemporary and Jazz, to the trained eye. |

I absolutely HATE the new set. I know it sounds lame, but it really makes me enjoy the show a lot less.
Eta: ITA with everyone on the cameras. I mean, this is a dancing show, let us see the fucking dance.

Lol at everyone bitching about the stage. If it cuts down on the ridiculously shitty camera work they've had, I'm all for it.
And did you guys know they had a non-tapper do a tap routine on SYTYCD Canada? I haven't seen it mentioned at all, so I just wanted to make sure everyone knows. |

I agree with you, Cindi. The new stage keeps the tricks with the camera to a minimum and I like it just for that.

I don't see why tap can't be a genre for most couples: ask almost any dancer (especially the lyrical ones) how they started their training, and most of
them will say that they took classes in ballet, tap, and jazz (and maybe hip-hop), like with Tara Jean in Canada. I'm not saying they should all be experts
at it, but a cleverly choreographed routine (like the one in Canada) can allow a tapper to show their stuff, and a non tapper to impress us all with their
versatility.
It's not like breakdancing, or dancing en pointe, which most of these dancers have not only never trained in, but the basic skills take years of training to even physically be able to do without hurting yourself. |

The real reason is that Tap is boring if it's not a solo or a large group. A tap duet would be dull.
It also requires precision like ballet does, otherwise it would sound terrible. |
