Posts: 5348 (10/18/09 1:28 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	Survivor: Samoa - Episode 5 (Ratings Watchdog) Here are my final ratings for the episode: Foa Foa Tribe Ashley - MORM5 - [1] Excited about the Reward Challenge, experimental eater, try anything once, so hopefully I'll be one of the key people in this challenge - Lost the Reward Challenge for Foa Foa by not drinking the sea slug guts - [2] Very disappointed in myself, I tried but my body couldn't take it, put all the blame on myself - [3] Normally we all run around and scramble, you can't do much scrambling because everybody overhears - [4] Gonna vote for Liz, haven't had a trust with her since Day One, just don't trust her - [A] All so cold, clothes are drenched, At least there's going to be a fire - [B] Trust everyone to a certain extent, but my biggest trust lies with Russell; kinda had a different connection with him from the beginning * The N was originally for being called out for losing both challenges for Foa Foa (including Jeff saying she didn't make any shots at the IC). I was really torn between giving her an M or not, but I don't think the intent was N because they gave that scene with Natalie saying she was proud of Ashley and Ashley was remorseful for not being able to eat the sea slug guts, so I don't get the impression she was supposed to be N. Jaison - MOR4 - [1] Day 12, finally came off a win, seems like it's a bright day for Foa Foa - [2] Convinced we might be at a real serious disadvantage, shelter's got rain in it, it's absolute misery, nothing I want to do more than to get out here - [3] Have no idea what's going to happen with the vote - [A] Previously, the hardest thing I had ever done was on a water polo team - [B] Agree with Mick, we could be a stronger or weaker team Liz - MORP4 - [1] I think Russell has the Immunity Idol, if not Ben, but probably Russell - Conversation with Russell about who will be the worst person in the food challenge - [2] Ashley should go, she's pretty weak in the challenges - [A] Trust pretty much everyone here, 3 losses has brought us together more than I expected it to - [B] Would be surprised if it was me, my gut would tell me Mick - MOR3 - [1] Surprised, thought Ashley would be just fine in this challenge, have to suck it up, it's not gonna hurt you, it just tastes bad - [2] The guys are pretty tight, will send one of the girls home, will play it by ear - [A] All stuck under shelter, it's pretty tough to scramble, can't pull somebody out in the rain - [B] A little more organized, stronger at challenges, I think that will strengthen us Natalie - MORP3 - [1] Ashley felt horrible after the challenge, but we're kindof like sisters, help each other through and feel better about it - [2] Don't know what the decision's gonna be, but I think it's gonna be one of the girls - [A] No way to try and scramble, the weather had a lot to do with it today Russell H. - CPN5 - [1] Liz could be dangerous for me if she can manipulate others to go her way and not my way, this game is all about mind games & I gotta be the only mind game player here - [2] Shambo is still looking for the idol but she won't find it, it's in my pocket - [3] Liz gets it, why would she threaten me? - [4] Bums me out that I had to stop my strategy because of the rain; Liz asked me if I had the Immunity Idol, keeps telling me that you don't trust me; puts a target on her back but Liz is stronger than Ashley so I don't know which way I'm gonna go tonight - [A] Down to 5 people now, it depends on who you can trust; that's like gold in this game - [B] This group is just too tight, I don't really think it's up in the air Galu Tribe Brett - UTR1 - [1] Past 24 hours, haven't been thinking about the game, just focusing on being dry, really want to reclaim this and win the challenge Dave - MORP4 - [1] Come back from our food challenge & everybody wanted to eat, Russell screwed up the fire - A minor conflict with Russell about the fire - [2] Sometimes patronize ppl without thinking about it - [3] Apparently no one knows how to make fire except me, actions speak louder than words so I don't need to say anything; if I'm the only guy who can make fire, it makes me pretty valuable * Leaning slightly towards OTT Erik - UTR2 - [1] Ocean is a real bitch, it hits you with massive tides & waves, never seen an object that was as angry & fickle as this ocean John - INV1 - Some SPV from Jeff for doing well at the Immunity Challenge Kelly - UTR1 - [1] A lot of rain tonight, torrential downpour, freezing, a lot of our blankets are wet, regretting the decision Laura - UTRN1 - Complains about Shambo at the beginning of the episode, which I felt was enough to put her on my radar as a N (the editing definitely supports Shambo here) * A very possible INV1 but I'm still going with UTRN for her Monica - UTRN2 - [1] Tribal was really crazy, realize that Shambo was the only person here who voted against me - Bitchy reaction to Shambo returning at the Immunity Challenge Russell S. - OTTN3 - Chooses Shambo to go back over to Foa Foa, she responds negatively - A minor conflict with Dave about starting the fire Shannon - OTTM4 - [1] Just got back from our first TC, Yasmin got voted out, didn't expect it, little disparaged that everybody was in an alignment except for me - Minor dispute with Russell S. over going back to Foa Foa - [2] Pissed to go back to Foa Foa, missing out on the Reward & the protein that my body so badly needs - [3] Love these guys but I wanted that steak - Shared the hidden Immunity Idol clues with Foa Foa * Again, I had the toughest time with her because even though we're supposed to be rooting for her, I don't know that there was anything explicitly positive in her edit so I'm going with Mixed because there was a bit of N tone and a bit of P, but probably not enough to go either way Chart: Potential Winners "Best" Contenders Well, since it seems like we're not allowed to speculate anyone other than Mick, I guess I'll just vote for only Mick again. Mick - He's the only person without some MAJOR flaws in his edit, which is why he stays at #1. As I said in previous weeks, I do think that some of his Episode 1 airtime was because he was selected as leader; however, he was shown early on in the premiere which is good and got a positive portrayal despite his tribe losing. In Episodes 2 and 3, he continued to get a lot of content and airtime, and even his first true CP this episode. His edit last week was very good for a non-TC episode, though it was mostly narration and he wouldn't have got much if not for going on the Reward Challenge. Episode 5 was once again another great episode for him. He looks good in all areas and is getting just the right amount of short-term and long-term story without being too "in-your-face" to the average viewer. Eliminated I worry that, if Mick doesn't win, this is going to be a season where someone who was eliminated early on ends up as the winner. I can't believe that only five people don't have an INV1. If the INV1 rule survives this, then I think it is a very solid indicator from now on. Aside from that, none of these people seem winner-ish: Brett (multiple INV1s, no endgame connections, no story at all) Dave (INV1, no endgame connections) Erik (INV1, no endgame connections) Jaison (winner would not be portrayed as someone who continually wants to quit) John (INV1, OTTN in Episode 1, no endgame connections) Kelly (multiple INV1s, no endgame connections, now associated with an N group) Laura (multiple INV1s, no endgame connections, now skewing UTRN) Liz (INV1) Monica* (now skewing UTRN, not enough development to be the winner but does have longterm story potential) Natalie (had an INV, but does have endgame connections; still eliminated though) Russell S. (INV1, skewing negative for the last three weeks, ups and downs in edit) Shambo (too up and down, OTT, cannot win a jury vote with Galu-majority jury)

I'm just watching this season as a casual viewer, so maybe I know nothing, but I really find it hard to believe Mick is the winner. He's an empty character. I think Shambo is ridicolously mainpulated, and I think if it's not her or Russell then it's probably Dave.

I've read through a lot of other posts acknowledging this, but someone with an invisible opening few episodes, IS NOT the winner using Edgic principles. She may be an endgame player...but (and I forget who said this earlier on) just because someone has multiple ties to the endgame does not make them a winner if their overall edit doesn't support it. Whether she's next out or comes in second place, she's not our winner looking at Edgic. Once Mick is eliminated, then clearly Edgic's gone to hell this season and we can look at her, but for now, the only justifiable picks I can see are obviously Mick and possibly Russell H, Shambo, and Jaison (although they are all very big stretches)

The things that work to Mick's advantage is that early on in the first Episode we got to know who he is (something Marcus didn't get, nor did Stephen)... something JT and Bob both got (others have too, but they are our most recent winners). Mick has been fairly MOR thus far, but it's still early: Mick can be eliminated if he remains very MOR in the merger/unimportant, or even goes UTR. Mick is surrounded by distractions, has gotten airtime, hasn't received NSPV from anyone (especially from big people like RussH) even though his tribe sucks and you'd think his leadership would be questioned (whereas Russ S, who leads a successful team, has already gotten backlash for something like picking pillows and then THREE confessionals stating how sucky Russ S' decision was... has this happened for Mick? No)

Especially if she is up against someone like Russell. And actually I think I am the only person to put Natalie on their winners list. Correct me if I am wrong though. And I think Natalie is much more edgically viable than someone like Jaison who has flat out said that going on survivor was the worst decision of his life.

If we're looking to secondary contenders behind Mick, you have to look to who has one flaw, then two, then three, and so on and so forth. Natalie has endgame connections. That's ALL she has right now.

If we make the assumption that this is the case (which her episode 4 edit strongly indicated), then Russell H cannot win and should be eliminated immediately. The only edgically viable edit at this point is Mick's. Jaison is overemphasizing how horrible it is, Monica is too UTR and N, Shambo's tone is all over the place, Russell H is too N, too visible, and losing to Natalie, and everyone else has at least 1 INV by the official ratings. Mick is our only winner pick, and if he isn't, then the editors changed their editing pattern greatly this season.

K, but this is my opinion, it's not like I have Kelly as my number one pick. Mick is my number one pick, and is far and away my number one pick. I don't feel as if anyone else left is edgically viable other than him. So of course in my opinion the 2nd and 3rd people on my winners list, are in my opinion not going to be edgically viable, so I picked Nat as my 2nd choice, and a combo of Liz/Erik/Monica/Shambo as my 3rd.

Although like I said, I still have 4 players in contention. Two strong possibilities, and two weak possibilities. I won't mention them because everyone is so sensy about spoilers (even though there are NO winner spoilers yet).
