What exactly did Monica say? Initial ratings... FOA FOA Ashley -- CPM5 Jaison -- MOR4 Liz -- MORP4 Mick -- MOR3 Natalie -- MORP3 Russell H. -- CPN5 GALU Brett -- UTR1 Dave -- MORP4 Erik -- UTR2 John -- INV1 Kelly -- UTR1 Laura -- INV1 Monica -- UTR1 Russell S. -- OTTN3 Shambo -- OTTM4 John & Laura were both definitely INV. A couple of nice comments about John during the IC are NOT enough to bump him up to INV. Rebecca was INV in Episode 3 of Cook Islands and Probst highlighted her as the last woman remaining in the challenge, with a close-up. And she was INV. My casual viewer barometer said she has no idea that there were a John, Laura or Brett even on the show. That's our INV trio of the season -- Kelly is moving out of that and Monica is heading to N territory (and has never actually been INV).

Posts: 20074 (10/16/09 2:54 PM) Registered User Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	-Ashley has been highlighted doing horribly in BOTH challenges this episode, first the RC (where they couldn't really avoid it), then in the IC (where Jeff was heard saying "Ashley hasn't scored a single shot yet", and I don't recall him ever saying "Ashley scores" later on either), N intent, she's going home I think Ugh. Was I the only one really annoyed by the IC editing last night? That part was so obviously from earlier in the challenge (the baskets were suddenly way less full). Obviously there's a lot of editing involved in the challenge footage, but if they're going to edit to make one tribe look even worse, they should maybe make an effort to not show the magical coconut baskets changing how full they were a dozen times. Other than that, Russell S. should definitely be N, imo. What a douche, I would have been fucking pissed if he talked to me like that. And I think Monica should also be N, or n if you prefer, because I don't actually think she was, but clearly we're supposed to be mad she's picking on poor persecuted Shambo.

So at the most crucial time for us to be scrambling, we were all stuck huddled together. This scene really vividly reminded me of the actual sensations of being stuck like that. Yes, but how and when were confessionals given? I have always wondered how confessionals are given as if they are in the present yet they actually took place later.

The confessionals were all spoken as if before TC, which doesn't seem all that surprising, since they can be asked to talk in private at any time, rain or shine, by the crew. If the suspicion is over how organized the vote against Ashley seemed, remember there was talk after the reward challenge. These are carefully selected snippets after all. The answers at TC contained clues that decisions had been made as a group. Russel, Mick, and Jaison spoke of expecting a unified decision. Everyone talked about being tight as a group. I think the decision about Ashley was made long before the huddling-in-the-hut scene.

Roughly at the same time it was decided that Ben was going. Oh, and one of this week's insider clips (the one with Jaison called "A Disadvantaged Tribe") appears to have been shot in a driving rain after the IC and before TC. So it's likely the folks at Foa Foa were called out one by one from their huddle to give confession. Just because they couldn't confer with each other doesn't mean they couldn't be called away to have a private chat with the camera.

Your barometer is off, because John is more memorable than Kelly at this point. If people remember Kelly, it's because she's hot not because of her edit. John will be remembered over her for the sole fact that he was bashed so hard in the first episode. Kelly is right there with Laura and Brett.

Nothing much changed in the Likely Edgic Winner race. Hell, I was sort of expecting Mick and Jaison to get INVs to throw this place into turmoil. But no. Even though Jaison's raw ratings are not too horrific, is whole "toughest thing/worst decision" schtick doesn't sound too much like winnertalk. But that doesn't change the fact that his edit isn't far out of line. His talk this week about how difficult it is seemed more matter-of-fact than whiny. Mick's edit was fine for a winner. Lotsa turmoil and bad vibes, but he just sailed along with a pleasant MOR nothingbuger edit. At this point in the season that's okay. Everyone else? Well, all the INVs are still there. Russell's fit-pitch with Liz was such poor strategy that it made me laugh. Here's one thing about how he's being edited: Yes, he has some smarts, but his ego is much bigger than his strategic thinking. Telling someone she's on thin ice and storming off in a rage is a large neon sign that says, "Ive got the HII." And what kind of genius would tell his two biggest physical threats that he has the HII? A player with a huge ego. Shambo? Yeah, you sort of root for her, but only in contrast to the a-wipes on her tribe. She is a klutz, but she is good-hearted. THe rest of her tribe? I don't care. That's the great editing this season: it made me simply not care. Yes, there's some tension, but I don't care. Liz? Forget the squabbling with Russell. She has an INV. So... Mick, gap to Jaison. that's about it. If you're going to seriously bend the edgic guidelines without shattering them completely, maybe maybe R H. Maybe. So too with Shambo. Everyone else? Not gonna win, and I don't give a crap for the "going to last late into the game" comments. They don't have much at all to do with edgic. And it's very easy to catch up on this thread when you ignore people you honestly suspect of venturing into Spoilerland.

Who cares if Monica makes F6, F4, F11--she doesn't win so she shouldn't be on your contenders list just because you think she "makes it far". She's still going to lose. Same goes for Natalie, even though she's probably in the end and probably gets some votes, she still won't win and still shouldn't be on a contenders list. Something that I'm starting to see over the last two/three seasons is people placing people they think are in the end on their contenders list even if they don't have edgically viable edits--a loser is a loser. If you have someone who gets 10th but has a good edit, that's better than having a bad edit 2nd placer in your contenders (ex. having Marcus on your contenders over Sugar is more accurate, even though Sugar went further)

The majority of posts since the last ep have been hair-splitting over minor characters. Watchdog posts are fine, but, most of it's been fandom stuff -which is okay in ve-ery small doses. But, its become the only pass-time for many. I suggest starting a new spec thread for judging who's nose is father out in front on Galu. Edgically, we can't give them any more rope, except for the slight chance Shambo still has. Eric? He's a late-comer to the party. RusselS? If we toss the INV rule, yes he's still worth watching. Just. Monica? Who is she? We knew that much about Bob after Ep1. The rest are INV-UTR1 zombies.

Should there just be 10 posts a week in this thread where people say "Yup, same as last week." and then just nothing until the next episode? If it's such an affront to your sensiblilities to see people discussing something other than Mick or Jaison or maybe Russell H. (whose edit is just as bod as Monica's, just on the other end of the scale), than just skip those posts and carry on with your "I'm too good to read most of the posts here anyways" selves.

After Episode 4 and Natalie's edit popping up at just the right time to finally introduce her to the viewers as an endgame player, specifically stating her strategy throughout the game. It's easy to see that Russell underestimates her (he says that specifically, and she says she's aware of this) which makes it even easier to see that Natalie has a very valid chance at being the UTR F3 finalist. Russell thinks he can beat her, she knows she can beat him. Why would they play this up at all if both of them don't end up in the F3? Do you think we're all idiots who are supposed to be wrong 100% of the time? I do think Natalie is our 2nd place of the season cos of straight up editing alone, we don't need your stupid ass spoilers whatever they are. Say whatever you want.

I'd agree that RusselH could be a very outside Edgic possibility, except for his repeated bragging to us that the women were all stupid and believed him completely. Nearly every time he's made such a statement there has been a confessional from one of the women he'd approached, telling us that they felt he was working them too hard and too fast. At some point they've all expressed caution about Evil Russ. This leads me to believe his downfall will be at the hands (supposedly) of one of his "dumb women". Natalie's confessional fits the bill. But, her lasting beyond that point isn't clear, storywise.

I believe those people have stated they will be making their winner picks in spoiler brackets for people like you who are extremely worried about it.
