I think they wear them at all official functions (pre- and post-challenge lineups, tribal council). Hopefully
there's not a "strangle the chief" challenge where they're forced to keep them on.
I can't tell from E3. I think Russell has his bag and the necklace. Lol on Mick if he's just wearing it because it's cool.

To me, it doesn't look like he's wearing it there. It's hard to tell, though.

That episode 3 picture he is wearing it over his shoulder
and this is him from episode 2 Since his hair is down in the current pic, it may be hard to tell if he doesn't have it on or not since this pic from episode 2 only shows the rope of it somewhat although I can't see it in the current picture

There is a video of the dreamteam rehearsal for this challenge up at the CBS site. This is apparently the Probstless 'Do It Yourself' challenge
previously mentioned in the Probst Blog. The chief picks two people from each tribe to go to a spot, open a box with 3 balls each and play 'Bocce in a
Box' for three chickens.

I can't find it. (OK, maybe I have a really bad attitude about the CBS site which blurs my vision.)
I'm curious more about the instructions than the bowling game. Does it say they're only playing for the chickens? Suggesting that any sending of a player to the other camp will be after immunity challenge. Do the captains already know what they're going to do when they choose the players? In general, if you were told to take two people and go to a spot, you might be thinking some sort of swap rather than a challenge. Do you choose trusted allies (or hated enemies) rather than good challenge players? If they do know they're selecting for a challenge, interesting that this reduces much of the pressure on Sweet Russell, since both tribes are choosing who to sit out. Normally with a 10-6 reward challenge, the 10 tribe would have lots of opportunity to botch their lineup for the immunity challenge. |

birdlady wrote:Apparently not. The tree mail note tells the leaders to choose 2 people "to go on a special mission." The clip doesn't quote the note any more than that. The challenge proper seems to be -- based on the number of balls glimpsed in the box -- for just those 4 players, who then take turns tossing 3 balls each at a flag they've planted "10 paces" away in the sand. The first question I have is of course, what about the no-sitting-out-2-challenges-in-a-row rule? Also, it looks like both leaders sent themselves on the mission. I believe this is the first time we've seen leaders choose themselves for anything. I had been wondering whether or not that was prohibited. Apparently not. |

TDT seems to think the images of the chiefs tossing balls are for some other
purpose (?) and not part of the actual challenge. Instead Mick sends Russell H and Natalie and Russell S sends Erik and someone else.

The dreamteamer demo just included one player from each tribe, throwing three balls, right? Simple enough to have changed that - chief + two, each throwing one
ball. Or maybe they just decided to play a few rounds ahead of time for practice, or Mick managed to come up with some sort of mano a mano side bet to get one
of the chickens back.
I think that still leaves it open about the spy-choosing. If it happens this challenge, it would have to be one of the two people you had with you, which seems like less fun than giving the tribe leader more options.

Practice shots? | ||

Perhaps all the images we have are of practice shots (in Probst's presence so he is sure the can do the challenge correctly without him)
and we really don't know the chosen ones.
Natalie is holding two balls

I don't believe that last shot is from the challenge. For one thing, the black shirt is almost directly behind Russell, whereas in the other shots, the
players are side by side.
I think the other shots are from the challange. Mick sends himself and Natalie. Russell S. sends himself and someone else. I think TDT is wrong right now. The dreamteamer demo just included one player from each tribe, throwing three balls, right? But the note as quoted said "Choose 2 members." Edited: If Kirhoffer actually meant "choose 2 tribe mates to take with you on a mission" (instead of what he said, which is "choose 2 people to go on a mission") then yes, the challenge would be 3 vs. 3.

Sorry, Kona, I just updated the RC page with the new info and didn't go back and edit out my previous spec.
Clearly from the preview, throwing the balls is part of the challenge (pretty much the whole challenge). And I can't imagine the chiefs being able to practice (together, in one location) before choosing, since they have to pick people to travel to the RC location before finding out what it's all about. |

No problemo TDT. Love your site. May I call you T? ;)
So going to 6 tossers with 3 balls each would be 18 balls on target. Perhaps the plan went from 4 people with 3 balls each, to 6 people with 2 balls each? |

The first question I have is of course, what about the no-sitting-out-2-challenges-in-a-row rule? Actually, unless something has changed (which is of course always possible) that rule is actually "per cycle". Meaning, if you sit out the RC you can't sit out the IC, but you could sit out the IC and the following RC. |

cindidindi76 wrote:Ah, I didn't know that. This RC "mission" would still be exempt even so. If only 3 people from Galu are tossing balls, then 7 of them are in effect "sitting out." Since they need to sit out 4 people for the IC (given that Foa Foa are down to 6), then at least one person on Galu will wind up sitting out both challenges. |

If the tree mail really describes it as a mission, I guess the losers have the option of making up some story for their tribe, rather than saying they lost a
reward challenge...
