I thought the scary evacuation already happened with Mike? It seemed pretty scary, he's an older guy and they spent an hour trying to get him back to a
condition where he could go back to camp.

A fracture or injury to the larynx can be deadly. I worked on a case where a woman had hit her throat. She seemed OK, went to a medical center than was
transferred to a hospital. Problem was they didn't anticipate a fracture. Her larynx started swelling then closed, the trach was botched and the woman
died. Point is, she was alive for 4 hours following the injury and ended up dying. Those types of injury can seem relatively harmless but deteriorate fast
and if they do, the medics or Doctors have only minutes to intubate the patient.
NOW I am not saying this happens in Survivor, just saying that if this is what did happen, I believe that it would be the scariest moment in Survivor history. |

Yeah, I just watched that preview again and there's no way Erik is evacuated over that. It's nothing. A tree branch knocked him over.

That's a relief.

Okay, we will see. I say Erik gets evacuated.

I definitely think Mike's evacuation had to be the "really scary" one- the guy was passing out on his feet.

If Erik goes you'd think they would have done more to make viewers care about him, especially since these three episodes have had their share of empty
spots which could have had a few more seconds for him. Mike got a bit more before he left. Then again, they did play the injury in slo-mo in the preview.
I can see Galu losing this IC. The title suggests it, and the show has worked so hard to prop Russell, he must start doing better at some point. I guess John or Yasmin would go, since the show seems to have plans for Shambo. |

And wasn't Erik the one who was Jeff's man-crush this season? Or do you think Erik going through this injury and evacuation makes Jeff feel for him?
It's just weird we haven't seen more of him if he's leaving -- in the Insider clips he seems like a reasonably articulate guy who wouldn't make
bad TV.

I'll say it once again that it may not be in recent episodes but a girl alliance will emerge. Not only did Jeff hint at it with Ashley, Russell also talked
about it last night. I'd bet on it

I am befuddled at anyone not thinking Mike Borassi's evac was the "scary" one. Dude had blood pressure so low they thought he was going to keel
over in the woods AND he has a history of heart problems. The other one will be a standard Survivor injury.

Oowatanite wrote: I'm thinking this could be the case as well, after learning about Jeff hinting at an ugly evac/boot. Perhaps Jaison = the ugly blindside boot that might disappoint fans, while someone from Galu (perhaps Erik, or perhaps someone else entirely since it'd be rather lame for it to be so obvious from the previews) gets medevaced. And THEN a tribe shuffle in Episode 5!..............Ew. Why couldn't THIS season have been Palau? I would've been perfectly happy if they booted some random space-wasters a la Willard from Galu (one or two) while Foa Foa whittled down to just one (Psst: Mick!), who ventured over to Galu and let that be the Top 9-10 (Jury + Final 2/3). Le sigh.... |

I was under the impression from Probst that the evacuations were a result of the harsh conditions and not standard injuries/

JediJeffro wrote:But nothing seems scary about that, per se. It's unnerving and upsetting, but it's nothing Jeff hasn't seen before. This second medevac has to be something where he was genuinely worried this person could've killed themselves or been permanently injured, imo. I hope it isn't Erik, 'cause so far, I think I like him. It'd be a shame if he had to go so soon. Judging by that clip, it's possible Erik could've nearly snapped his neck or something--not to mention, that momentum would force his feet to swing upward, with gravity pulling his body down in a rather unpleasant way. Erik might've first injured his neck, and after that, the guy might've even landed his head on some rocks or other sharp/blunt objects. Again, I'm really hoping that's not the case, but it's plausible. Neck injury + concussion (or worse, cracked skull) = too many fractures to risk his life with by keeping him around. Hopefully, this preview was much ado about nothing and someone sucky/annoying is the one to suffer (Russell H. falls down a hole?)....

James Barber wrote:Joe whatshisface from Tocantins says hi. I didn't even think about Erik being evacuated when watching the preview, but that screencap really does look...ouch. I'm thinking Galu finally goes to Tribal Council, and if Erik is evacuated, the girls will have the majority and vote out John. We were given all that "JohnsucksJohnsucksJohnsucks" in the first episode for a reason, and I think it was to set him up to go first from Galu. Especially since we got a random confessional from him last night. Marisa, Mike, Betsy, and Ben all had huge edits before they left, so I think they're steering away from the INV-INV-OTTboot that we've had in recent seasons. |

rower wrote:Actually, that did happen in the South African version of the show. In a twist to allow booted contestants back in the competition (much like what we saw on Pearl Islands) a man drowned to death after doing a strenous amount of running while carrying a heavy backpack, which ended up in him going under in the swimming portion of the challenge. Apparently even the crew were unaware of what was going on bcause the man had fallen behind while the crew were catching with the others. Now that's scary. Maybe MB and Jeff caught wind of the incident and thought maybe something similar might be happening. |

Kirblar wrote:Agreed, someone Mike's age, and given his history, and who's blood pressure is so low he is losing oxygen to his brain and passing out, is VERY scary. Mike was exhibiting signs of shock, and the longer he was in shock the more dangerous. I have watched older guys just like him, going from lightheadedness, then passing out and then going into full cardiac arrest. Having said that they did end Mike's clip with everyone lining up to say good bye, so when he did eventually leave he must have recovered his blood pressure enough to stand and hug people goodbye. Who knows what would scare JP. There could very well be something else that comes along. Airway emergencies are the most scary, and if Eric damaged his larynx or throat, that could be extremely worrisome as well. But that clip doesn't look like there was a lot of tension on the line, and to me it looks like he fell to get out of the way of the rope instead of being completely hung on it. Difficult to tell, he could get up laughing. Or he he may not get up at all, as he could have hit his head, snapped his neck, fell on a sharp object... Also, I think they slowed down the vid because it is difficult to see that Eric got caught on a vine/rope without the slow-mo. I still think we are due for someone having a near drowning incident. People who are fatigued, and swimming, perhaps passing out in the water. eta: I really hope it isn't Eric who gets taken out, as he has been a hard working and interesting player (for what we have seen in Galu)
