Geek Information Warning...
There was a total solar eclipse on Saturday July 20th 1963. Totality was in Canada and extended into Maine. It would have been partial in New York. What was the date that Don signed onto the contract? Was it the next Monday or Tuesday? |

^Don signed the contract on "Seven Twenty Three," which was also the name of the episode. So, does it mean something?

I think the episode was named for the date of the contract. I don't think there's a deeper meaning than that.

I thought this was one of the best episodes this season, though I am disappointed Joan wasn't in it.
And Don and Roger broke up again - this time maybe for good. But Roger now has the contract to hold over Don's head...so Don had better learn to play nice. And finally, kudos to Don for finally saying to Betty, "Once again you've managed to take something that has nothing to do with you and make it all about yourself." Not as good as the smack in the mouf she deserves, but I'll take it. |

I thought she returned his serve expertly in that argument (and while I'm no fan of Betty, as wife and mother to his 3 kids, her question was more than

I don't want a Betty as a friend of mine in real life, but as a character keep it coming. I thought she should have been nominated for an Emmy last season. it's wonderful nuanced work. |

Did anyone else think this episode was meant to showcase rising similarities between Don and Peggy? The whole episode pretty much just showed both of them
getting served over and over again (and I do believe that Peggy got SERVED when she fell for Duck. He cannot possibility be genuine or up to anything good with
his out of nowhere sexual interest in her and she fell for it FOR SOME FUCKING REASON - god dammit Peggy, I love you but for as far as you've come,
you're still so STUPID every now and then when it comes to men folk).
Ok, I really forget where I was going with this. I'm pretty much just pissed off about Peggy and Duck. ETA: Oh and fuck the teacher, she's just a terrible person. LOL at Don being all like "Um yeah nothing is actually happening at this moment, stop projecting you deluded slut."

I don't like Betty as a person - the character is great because she makes me hate her so much and Don needs that tension at home to showcase that he's
trapped in a cage, at home and now at work. I do like the way she handled Roger, though, but she's a self-indulgent brat who resents her life, her kids,
and now wants to lounge about on her 'fainting couch' and rub one out to the random guy she let touch her belly.
As for the teacher, I saw a few weeks ago that she would be the Gloria Trillo of Mad Men. If she stalks Don and ends up killing herself after taking Betty for a spin in a new car, I'm going to be pissed. And Peggy and Duck are just so....GROSS. She's always been ambitious, but Duck? Really? Pete, for once, was right. Stay away from Duck. But overall, this was probably in the top episodes of this season. I sat there with my mouth open the whole time. I even loved the hallucinations with Don's dad in the hotel and the robbers. Dayum, this show is good. |
