Were they making fashion garments inspired by made-up characters in these genre films or were they making actual costumes to be worn by characters in these fictional films? I thought it was the latter, in which case, the judging made no sense at all. How can you ask designers to make something "new" for a period piece (including Western or Film Noir)? And when they do, as Christopher and Epperson did, the costume is anachronistic and would severely hurt the FILM. Seriously, if we saw Christopher's piece in a Victorian era story or Epperson's in a real Western, we'd be laughing at them! Those who had sci-fi or even action-adventure could innovate, but the historically grounded ones would be locked in by actual fashion history...

Also, by the standards of making real costumes, whether or not they look good is not the important criterion -- what matters is whether they are appropriate for the character/scene. In that case, Ra'mon's may actually be a GOOD design (overlooking the poor execution) for a lizard creature from another planet...

My favorite of the week was Gordana, specifically because it was such an accurate and convincing example of stylish and attractive clothing for that period. Hers was the one I could most see being worn by a movie star in an actual film, which is what I thought the challenge was supposed to be...
