To me, it was just supposed to be inspired by a particular genre. I t think that's why Gordana was rated low - she was too literal. It looked like
she'd opened up a Vogue from 1923 and just copied what she saw. It was gorgeous, and beautifully crafted, but not really relevant today.
Louise made me laugh with her bullshit story about an actress going to a party in the 40s dressed like the 20s - sounded like something cooked up after the fact to try and doctor up her uninspired dress. I was really hoping for more from her. |

Drew B wrote:I totally agree with the point about the challenge being unclear. But based on Project Runway history, save for the drag queen challenge I've always heard designers saying "We are fashion designers, not costume designers." I believe the point was to take something that could legitimately be seen in a movie but then make it fashionable. That being said, Christopher's was the best executed, because he made a Victorian period piece that could actually show up in a movie, but the design was still had a touch of modern and was wearable. Nicholas' was would show up in a movie but was too costumey to be wearable... Epperson's was wearable (and also reflected his POV which I give kudos to) but too modernized/fashionable to actually appear in a movie. I guess that's why I'd give the win to Christopher for achieving the best of both worlds. As far as the most appropriate for movies, I agree that Gordana's was impeccably made and would look great on the silver screen more than any of the dresses -- I think she constantly gets under-rated for following the expectations of the challenge more than other designers but not having as much of a wow factor. A couple surprises though... I did not expect Sci-Fi to be both the winner and loser (although Ra'mon's dress was terrible), and I didn't not expect the Western costumes to do so well. |

I actually felt bad for Louise after her comment about "I'm just happy to get some feedback...*stifles sob*...thx"
Still want her to go soon though. And Gordana. They're both pretty much cardboard cutouts to me. Poor Carol Hannah, Logan and Shirin have all only been called out once |

Us Kids Know wrote:Yeah, I just realised that 4 decent designers all of whom could end up at Fashion Week have consistently just been "IN" except for a win (Shirin), high (CH) and lows (Logan). Irina and Louise have only gotten feedback twice. Anyone know if the designers get to see the judges' comment cards after each show? ^ As for wearability Christopher's dress itself isn't wearable now, but I can see how the design could be modified to be wearable, whereas Nicholas' is too costumey to be modified for wearability. |

I actually really liked Carol Ann's (step into the light) Western saloon wench dress.
Drew makes a really good point. The boys over at Project Rungay made the same point, and it's really valid. The judging has been wonky in other challenges as well this season, and this is not the first time that the rules of the challenge have not been clear. It seems like whoever comes up with these things isn't taking the time to figure out the specific criteria for each challenge and more importantly, to communicate the criteria to the judges and the contestants. You know, just so they're all on the same page and all. I just find it lame that some contestants are being raked over the coals for just pulling something out of their asses at the last minute, when it seems the judges themselves are figuring the challenges out as they go along. |

Ra'mon is a MONSTER for making Vanessa cry
At least the producers are all heterosexual gentlemen who rigged the models show to guarantee she stayed. Shirin/Vanessa shower scene bonding next episode, pls.

I think the waist in Christopher's dress was too low. That black thing needed to come higher up, like a corset that pushes up the boobies.

I love how Logan and Carol Hannah made outfits that are practically identical. They can wear them at their wedding ^_^ <3

Louise really should have been the one auffed. Her dress failed for the 20's, for the 40's and for today. It was just a fail on every level.
Ra'mon's could be the height of fashion among extraterrestrial lizard people...
The ironic thing is, if Louise had gotten the axe, Fatma may well still be with us... |

Drew B wrote:Oh for Christ's sake, add lace sleeves and that dress would fit right in. It's a show stopper number. Sorry, but I'm beyond pissed that idiot ruling the commentary for the show won and has immunity. His look was a rip off of the Ice Queen from Narnia, a poor and less dramatic rip off. The styling is the only aspect that made the look impressive. Epperson should have won. The female star of a Western would wear the shit out of that dress. Christopher's look was second. I am getting pissed that Gordana always being in the bottom three for looks that are completely safe though. It's getting tiresome. Ra'Mon totally deserved the boot. He main problem was not contrasting the leather he selected to work with a darker color. It was just too much green. The rest of the looks were quite boring, including Logan's look. He is not that attractive that his look couldn't have been called out for the blatant Lara Croft rip off it was. Well I guess with Ra'Mon gone he's now the lone looker left on the show. This show desparately needs to get back to NYC. NinaGarcia and Kors absences have made for an even duller season. |

I'm tired of reading the Narnia comparisons with Nicholas's dress. The only similarities in the design are the color and the icy makeup. Tilda
Swinton's dress was really rigid, almost papier mache looking, especially at the bodice. Also, she had fur. Nicholas had feathers and appliques, and is a
flowy design. Haters need to stop hatin'.

^^^That's why it's a bad rip off.
ETA: Project Runway: Judge Not, Lest Ye be Judged Project Runway is all about vision and delusion. The vision to make a great costume, the delusion the judges won't call it costumey. The vision to have judges in the first place, the delusion that they will show up. Ugh, don't even get us started on Ms. Kors and Nina Garcia Fashion Director of Marie Claire Magazine. They are the laziest people on all of reality television and that includes the dolts on Big Brother who have nothing to do but lie around in a house for three months and pick stupid fights with each other. Instead, let us focus on the positive, because last night was the second good episode in a row! We've finally gotten to the point where most of the dead weight is gone and there is time to learn about the designers and who they are and how they work. The producers also came up with another good challenge, even though it was of the "go to Mood and buy the fabric" variety, at least everyone had to work within a movie genre. Designers had to make an outfit for a character in an imaginary film and come up with a silly story for who their character was. Considering a noted fashion designer once told us that the inspiration for his collection that season was "a bohemian girl's aristocratic grandmother dies and she goes to the estate house she just inherited and throws a huge part for all her friends," this could come in handy in the real world. Things We Hated:
Things We Loved:
So, in the end, it was Ra'Mon and his superfluous apostrophe that got sent home. We were a little shocked. We thought Kenly Jr.'s bangs were going to have to get back in her time machine and travel back to the era that she designs from, but she was spared to accuse people of stealing her bobbins another day. Even her boring time warp weren't as bad as Ra'Mon's sci-fi outfit that looked like a stupid sorority girl trying to rock a Sexy Sleestak (Skeezestak?) costume for Halloween. Fat Kurt was the winner, and we can't disagree, though we would have given the title to either Christopher, whose crazy vampire bride inspired period
costume was amazing in its ruffled majesty. Epperson made the most of getting stuck with the Western category and made this awesome ruffley denim thing with a
big brown belt that looked like it could have won an Oscar for Renee Zellweger in Cold Mountain. We say this every week, but Our Girl Althea's
simple film noir number with a cute white shrug made us want to rent Double Indemnity. Irina did a great job on her lacy gown that made us notice how
hot a model's ass was. Now that is a miracle.

Whatever. I didn't know that the color white or ice was a copyright of that damn Narnia movie. Swinton's dress isn't even all white, it's blue
towards the bottom. But you are the be-all end-all of everything in your long-winded universe.
