I just found out that Patrick Swayze passed on. May he rest in peace. The only movie of this that I saw from beginning to end was "To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar". I know that some people think that it's a knock-off of "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert", but it's a good movie in its own right. I took a class in Queer Theory in Film a few years ago and for my final, I did a report on "To Wong Foo". Basically, I said that while the movie is enjoyable, it does have some negative effects - for instance, they desexualize the drag queens and John Leguizamo's character Chi Chi Rodriguez is forced to give up the object of her affection, a small-town boy named Bobby Ray who (like the whole town) doesn't know that these rather large women are men (though in the end, he does come to the drag queens' aid - along with the whole town), and they make over Stockard Channing's daughter, Bobby Lee, so that she (a biological female) may have her "rightful" chance at Bobby Ray. They have to give up their sexuality so that the straight people can have their sexuality, basically.

In any event, I'll miss Patrick Swayze. I know that he wasn't in the best of health, but still.
