Jobless rates rise in all US metro areas in April
Jobless rates rise in all 372 metro areas in April, part of Indiana again posts biggest gain By Jeannine Aversa, AP Economics Writer On Wednesday June 3, 2009, 11:44 am EDT WASHINGTON (AP) -- Jobless rates rose in all the largest U.S. metropolitan areas for the fourth straight month in April, according to government data released Wednesday. The Labor Department reported all 372 metropolitan areas tracked saw their jobless rates increase in April from a year earlier. Indiana's Elkhart-Goshen's rate jumped to 17.8 percent, up 12.7 percentage points from a year ago. The Indiana region, which posted the largest increase from last year, has been pounded by layoffs in the recreational vehicle industry. The second-highest jump occurred in Bend, Ore. Its rate rose to 15.6 percent, up 9 percentage points from last year. The region of North Carolina's Hickory-Lenoir-Morganton saw its unemployment rate rise to 14.9 percent, a gain of 8.8 percentage points from last year. The figures aren't seasonally adjusted, making month-to-month comparisons far more volatile. El Centro, Calif., continued to claim the highest unemployment rate in the country -- 26.9 percent. The jobless rate there is notoriously high because there are so many unemployed seasonal agriculture workers. Following close behind were Yuma, Ariz., with a jobless rate of 20.3 percent, Merced, Calif., at 18.3 percent and Yuba City, Calif., at 18.2 percent. |

If it wasn't so fucking scary, it would be funny! California has fantastic revenue from agriculture, tourism, Hollywood, etc., yet cannot get out of
it's own way. San Diego is one of the top vacation destinations in the country, has a superb climate and snags good high-tech and financial jobs, yet is
constantly broke! It's all about the juxtaposition of Socialist ideals in an economy based upon greed and avarice. Great! Let's cut more funding
from the school systems so that we can generate more freakin' idiots to suck at the Gubmint teat! Might just be time to start thinking about where I want
to live next...

Fuck that is scary shit. I recall when they "elected" the Govenator and they were thinking of amending the Constitution to get him to run for
President. Now he is going back to body building after he leaves office. What a disaster. But you could see it coming. It was 2005 when I barely got out San
Diego real estate with a dime... the state is a disaster and when I am forced to leave San Francisco for this backwater fishing village I know live in it
sickens me.. although thank god I did.

UC is right that the proposition system in Cali is a great way to find out what the people want. And the people of Cali are no different than all other
Americans: They want the gubmint to do everything for them, but they want their taxes to be pretty much non-existent.

To be fair, judging from the LA Times and SF Chronicle's message boards, people don't blame Arnold as much as they blame the idiots in the state
Senate.

LA is a cancer. Cut it out and take the surrounding areas to make sure you get all of the malignant shit.

The population of California has to take blame. I had coffee awhile back with Willie Brown who was at the time in the State offices and he was behind the
idiotic Prop 13 and that is just one of many of the moronic bills that pass in the state. Its this weird hybrid of wanting Socialism without the taxes. It
doesn't work.
Arnold said he was going to fix that and he contributed to the problem with alienating anyone willing to help him. No one likes the guy. |

Rush Limbaugh just proposed that we could reduce the deficit if we had a three-year tax holiday. |

Now the Scientologists will offer a bail-out that the legislature will be forced to accept. Building will begin on the new spaceport, Disneyland will be
renamed Hubbardland and actors will walk around in costumes with giant John Travolta and Tom Cruise heads.
Damn you people! |

Prop 13 isn't even an issue, the Dems are just using it as a scapegoat to save their asses.
The reason for California's budget woes is ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. Our education, healthcare, transportation, criminal, welfare, etc. cost have all gotten way out of control because of them. |

Prop 13 is crucial if you want to understand how California got into this mess. And first generation and second generation immigrants have been proven to pay MORE into the system than they take out. So immigrants are a huge boon to the state and our economy and continue to be (even though there are a lot of scared bigots out there). |
