Kate Gosselin - of TV's Kate & Jon Plus 8 - filed legal documents to end her marriage in one of two counties in Pennsylvania where divorce cases are kept sealed. But leaks to the press have brought some of the details into the open - and caused a world of confusion. What are the grounds for divorce? Is Kate really claiming the pair separated two years ago? Beware of reading too much in to the perfectly standard filings that have appeared so far, legal experts tell PEOPLE. About the only thing that is clear is that the couple, who married in 1999 and have eight kids, are opting for a no-fault divorce - the kind that lawyers like to call "divorce with dignity." No Assigning Blame The process begins when an attorney representing one of the spouses files a complaint requesting "equitable distribution of marital property," which Kate Gosselin's lawyer did at the Montgomery County courthouse in Norristown, Pa., on June 22. While it is possible in that state to file for a "fault" divorce, the kind seen in movies in which one party claims to be the victim of infidelity, cruelty or other dire circumstances, that has become relatively rare, according to Lynne Gold-Bikin, a prominent family law attorney in Norristown. "You don't always have an innocent, injured spouse," says Gold-Bikin. Assigning blame to one partner would "start a fight, and they [apparently] don't want to do that," says Gold-Bilkin. "They have kids." Standard Procedure There are two grounds for a no-fault divorce request in Pennsylvania - Kate opted for both, which is also standard - and this is where the language in the filings, first reproduced on TMZ, gets technical and confusing. "The first is called 'mutual consent,' " Gold-Bikin says. That means that if, after 90 days, both sides officially agree the marriage is irretrievably broken, then the divorce can proceed. The second ground states that if, two years from now, the grounds for divorce still hasn't been resolved by the spouses, then one party can file an affidavit alleging the marriage is irretrievably broken. At that point, the court appoints an official known as a master to hold a hearing and work out any unresolved financial issues. Jon and Kate have just begun the divorce process, and so far are taking the high road. Of course, what happens next in the volatile lives of this television couple is anybody's guess. Lawyers representing both Gosselins declined to comment for this story.

I dearly hope she can carry them to term, but there are risks for her as a diabetic. Diabetics often have bigger-than-average babies because the fetus is exposed to so much blood-sugar. Big babies + six in the womb? Yikes. ETA: Holy shit, I just read this as well: He started Amanda on follicle stimulating hormone shots for ovulation induction in preparation for IUI (intrauterine insemination). After Amanda's first treatment cycle with the shots she became pregnant with twins. We were excited and felt blessed; unfortunately, she lost the twins in September 2008 at 18 weeks due to an incompetent cervix. She has an incompetent cervix???? They really bashed Kate in this show, and Jon, for that matter. The ex fiance of Kate was mentioned. I don't remember if he was on the show directly or 3rd parties who knew both of them. Basically she met him when he was working in some blue collar job when they were in their late teens. She was in school. She became the head bitch in charge. He eventually ran for the hills. Not long after that, she meets Jon. And E! was very careful to point out that his life was going nowhere, he had no direction, etc. He wasn't in college. This whole show really implied that Kate deliberately was looking for a man she could marry and essentially deball the guy. She almost succeeded beyond her wildest dreams. Overall this was a fairly even handed documentary of these 2. Both looked as bad as we know them to be.

My blood sugars were well controlled and I was hospitaled with pre-eclampsia for 6 weeks prior and oh, I did not have an incompetent cervix...........how the fuck she will carry 6 babies with all these issues are beyond me. If any of them do survive they will be a mess. Why are they selling themselves before the fact. MEDIA WHORES they are!

My friend had a 2 pound baby due to this problem.They can sew it up and probably will sew hers up but the whole procedure adds complications to the pregnancy.

With multiples it's going to be a challenge to keep her pregnant long enough for the babies to be viable, with the cervix issues she's really going to be in for a challenge.

And remember, babies of diabetes grow usually huge, by 7 months, they can be the size of a full time baby but have undeveloped lungs and other issues. Both of these medical problems combined is going to make the remainder of this pregnancy a mess. Those fetuses are doomed.

Oh, wait, no, it was 2 cycles of Clomid, hormone shots, three cycles of IUI with one miscarriage and one potentially fatal ectopic pregnancy. Truly one of God's miracles.
