I didn't like the mammoth cake.. yeah.. it's size was impressive.. but it was totally boring. And inedible. I loved the "painting" on the
dream cake, but it did lack cohesion.. Anna's flat pieces were amazing.

Being honest I dont see any real misses. They all had their WoW factors. Not sure I would agree with the winner, but what do I know of cakes? I do think that Anna went conservative based on other CCC masterpieces. Ben is able to construct some pretty amazing things, I hope if they compete again they use some of his architectural skills. |

I still can not stand the editing of this show. Right before they go to commercial they show you pretty much what is coming up, not even attempting a teaser.
Why did the judges have problems with the styrofoam, but not the wooded body wrapped in chocolate and rice crispies? Also didn't this used to be more of a
creative challenge, and less of an assembly challenge? It seems like lately with all the Disney stuff it's them unpacking suitcases of premade junk and
just assembling.

Kerry had issues w/the styrofoam because it wasn't wrapped and the particles would contaminate the rest of the cake making it inedible.
The base of the showpiece has to be cake, but the elements can be composed of other material. As long, there is edible components, you are good. The editing is bad, because it is used to create drama that often does not have anything to do w/the outcome (ie the frosting for the Manny cake). Its funny there always seems to be major issues w/Richard Ruskell's work, but he still does well. Patrick Costan always complains about the back of his cakes, this time it was scale. |

God I love Ben...he's so sexy. Mmmm.

So why did she only stack cake and styrofoam? I would have thought filling would be a no brainer and she could have used it to help with the height issues. Why
we are on rules; Why do they only bring 2 tusks? Why not like 12 just in case?

codayoda1221 wrote: I know! He's fun to watch. That was my biggest complaint they didnt show enough Ben. LOL Otch Kerry actually questioned the filling as well. I think it was a time mgmt issue? I believe they could have brought 12 tusks, but there might have been space issues? |

Ok if there is 10k on the line I am at least sending out there 2 of everything.

Probably a very stupid complaint, but I found the shocking pink and yellow dreds pulled into pigtails on either side of that woman's head a total
distraction and totally annoying. And did she smile even once during the hour? She would never do a cake for me. I know she's good, but there are too
many good cake people out there who don't have annoying hair (yes I'm cranky today. You got a problem with dat?)

Yeah Ben wasn't on enough at ALL. I wonder if he's single? Gay? Straight? Dreads really freak me the fuck out. I don't know what it is about
them...especially around sanitary things like food, they just seem so unclean, like flies are going to fly out (and living a portion of my life in Eugene,
Oregon, I can tell you for a fact half the hippies with dreads there have absolutely NO idea what is in their hair, it's disgusting).

Otch wrote:I remember hearing on one show that they are only allowed to bring a certain percentage of pre-made items. I don't know if that counts as in what's used or not. So, bringing 12 tusks might have forced them to make that much more stuff there. |

IIRC, she used styrofoam because the cake she shipped prior to the challenge condensed or fell or whatever. But it wasn't as tall as originally shipped.
When stacked, it would not have come up past the iron rods (and did anyone else notice that the cake pieces had PRE-DRILLED holes that corresponded to the iron
rods? Were you watching, Stevie? Any ideas on how to avoid just jamming a cake down on dowels?). So she used styrofoam to fill in the resulting gaps and
bring the piece back up to the top of the iron rods.

I would like that part of the rules clarified. I always thought it was you could only use a certain percentage of premade stuff. But your explanation of you
could only bring a certain amount of pre made stuff. I also want to know how much equipment they can bring. A lot of decorators have had issues w/the air
brush so you would think they would bring a back up.

Thx. I hope the Food Network understands how important it is for us to know this information since we are keeping score on the boards. ;)

So a repeat of Battle of the Brides and saw Jay's Assistant/Partner Joshua competing. No wonder they are a good team.. Josh does pretty good work on his
own.

^ LOL I figured as much. We should keep a running list of rules here as the challenges continue, then write to them when we notice a violation. HA! Actually
Kerry is pretty consistent when pointing out rule infractions.
Speaking of Kerry, did anyone see the Sesame Street cakes? She was really tickled being muppetized, the biggest smile I have ever seen on her. Had Lauren's fondant been better she may have had this one. NTL: nobody rolls out giant pieces of fondant better than Ben Turner. :) |
