I actually thought Marquis solo was kind of overrated. I did feel like certain parts of the tricks did gel more with the music. I think the more important
thing was that even if Marquis solo was a bunch of tricks, his solo was 20 times better than the crappy solo that Chris put out.

There was nothing wrong with that solo. If I recall it was very difficult believing that Marquis liked girls when he was dancing

Agreed. Marquis was cut for one reason -- he didn't dance "masculine" enough and Nigel hates male dancers who are in any way what he considers feminine (i.e. flaming, as Nigel is a homophobe). I wasn't a Marquis fan, but I was outraged at the way he was cut and Nigels' BS comments. After that solo, I actually wanted Marquis to stay at least one more week. Obviously it is a fine imaginary line in Nigels' head as to what is considered too many tricks when the contestants have the 15 seconds or so to"dance for their life." Obviously, unless you are a "chosen one" you run the high risk of having your solo considered desperate with too many tricks or boring with not enough flash in it. It's obvious they know who they are going to cut and they form their reasons around it in how they will criticize or praise the solos. |

Any reasonable person would fear that with her... Perhaps if he'd been paired with Courtney or somebody less whoreish, he could have mustered a little more masculinity. Hell, it's not as though Chris or Thayne were particularly macho... |

I didn't think that Marquis danced all that feminine. Hell, I thought Maksim from this season looked more feminine than Marquis when dancing. That being
said, I personally thought that the problem was with Marquis's solo was that although it did looked as if it were actually danced out and not just full on
tricks from beginning to end, Marquis failed to move to the music. If you notice, he was always a move and a half faster than the actual song. I think that if
he would have actually SLOWED DOWN his movements just a TAD to let the music catch him, then he would have been safe.
Vitiligo suffers from the same problem this season. That and he has a WEAK center. |

Speaking about the feminine/masculine dancing debate. I think it would be freaking awesome if Rhys (SYTYCD Australia Season 1) does a guest dance. Nigel
would freak out.
The guy did a group dance to a Prince song, and danced in heels. |

Rhys did a Paso Doble so ultra-masculine though. I completely forgot how flaming he was until he opened his mouth a clapped like a school girl to one of the
judges comments.
Seriously, he can do masculine dances really well. |

^ HAHA I remember that after the hip hop he did.
Jason: Wow Rhys, really masculine dancing from you. Rhys: *puts hand up in hair* Wooo wooooooooooooooooooo! *clap clap clap* |

SurvivorArctic wrote:I was wondering when Rhys would enter this conversation. I absolutely loved Rhys for his chameleon like ability to act/dance the part he was given. He could mince with the best of the girls, and did drag on the side. But when he played a strong male character, he did it better than most of the straight guys. His paso doble to me was one of the most intense and best in SYTYCD international. And love the Aussies who put Rhys in second place, because he was different and an f'ing great dancer. I wonder if someone like Rhys could even make the US version, let alone make it far. My guess is probably not. Am I the only lame one who downloads some of the songs used in SYTYCD routines??
