47. Sorana Cirstea
Country : Romania Birthday : April 7, 1990 (19) Current WTA Ranking : 27 Highest Ranking : 27 (June 8, 2009) WTA Tour Titles : 1 (Tier IV) Best Results at Grand Slams Australian Open - 1R (2008) (2009) French Open - QF (2009) Wimbledon - 2R (2008) US Open - 2R (2008) Olympics - N/A ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
Sorry for all the Sorana Pictures but I think shes just the most adorable thing ever. lol. Sorana is currently the highest ranked Romanian player. At the 2009 French Open Sorana shocked the tennis world. First she defeated clay specialist Alize Cornet seeded 21st, afterwards she defeated red hot Caroline Wozniacki in the third round but then she followed up with a defeat of Jelena Jankovic in the fourth round. Jelena fans should hate this girl since after the match Jelena stated the possibilty of taking a break from tennis after Wimbledon. With Soranas quaterfinal victory, her ranking rose to 27, which is pretty good for a 19 year old. She did lose her quarterfinal match to Samantha Stosur pretty badly 6-1 6-3. In April 2007, she reached the final of Budapest losing to Dulko, but that was Soranas breakthrough. By making it to the final, she became the first Romanian player to reach a final since 2000. In 2008 in Tashkent, she won her first WTA tour title. She defeated Sabine Lisicki in the final. Now I really like Sorana and im sure one day she will be in my top 20 but limited exposure lends her the number 47 ranking. But first, the upset of Jelena Jankovic. Lets take a look shall we? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

46. Iveta Benesova
Country : Czech Republic Birthday : February 1, 1983 (26) Current WTA Ranking : 35 Highest Ranking : 25 (April 6, 2009) WTA Tour Titles : 1 (Tier III) Best Results at Grand Slams Australian Open - 3R (2006) French Open - 3R (2008) (2009) Wimbledon - 2R (2007) US Open - 2R (2004) (2008) Olympics - 2R (2008 Beijing Olympics) ![]() ![]() ![]()
Whoops, I missed Benesova. I wouldve ranked her four spots lower. Oh wells. Benesova is a very monotone player. Absolutely zero emotion on the court. You never know how shes feeling because she always has the same damn look on her face. On 6 April 2009, Benešová achieved her career-high singles ranking of World No. 25, after an impressive quarterfinal run at Miami. Still at 26 years of age you have to wonder if it may be a little to little to late for her. Earlier this year, Benesova played in front of her home crowd in the Fed Cup tie against Spain. Despite losing her singles rubber the Czech team advanced to the semifinals after winning the tie 4-1.. But then in the semi finals against The United States Benesova played horribly and Alexa Glatch defeated her in straight sets. I saw her play at The Australian Open this year where she played Dementieva in the second round, but she still lost the match. She also played Ana Ivanovic at The French Open this year and lost. Benesovas soul WTA tour title win came in 2004 where she defeated Flavia Pennetta in Acapulco (Flavia has been defeated in that final 4 times and one once lol). Still as much as I like Benesova theres just been little substance for me to go on for this year. |

45. Victoria Azarenka
Country : Belarus Birthday : July 31, 1989 (19) Current WTA Ranking : 8 Highest Ranking : 8 (April 6, 2009) WTA Tour Titles : 3 International (2) Premier 5 (1) Best Results at Grand Slams Australian Open - 4R (2009) French Open - QF (2009) Wimbledon - 3R (2007) (2008) US Open - 4R (2007) Olympics - 3R (2008 Beijing Olympics) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Everyone meet the future number one player in the world, and no im not joking. Azarenka is the real deal. Theres been a lot of hate thrown at her in the tennis thread in OT, but they just dont see the truth. Its only a matter of time before Azarenka has her breakthrough and I really think her or Venus will win Wimbledon 2009. Azarenka seems like a carbon copy of Maria Sharapova, same screech, same style of play. But Azarenka will be more accomplished than Sharapova. Yup, I said it. First of all Azarenka couldve won the Australian Open this year. She was leading Serena Williams a set and down just one break in the second. But Azarenka had to retire after the notorious Australian summer heat caused her flu like symptoms. What a break for Serena. But Azarenka found her revenge at Miami, the most prestigious event outside of the grand slams, olympics, and YEC. She defeated an injured Williams in the final 6-3 6-1. People need to wake up and realize what a talent Azarenka will be. I rank her at 45 because although I do like her but not enough to wanna see her win all the time. Azarenkas only weakness is her mental state. She is mentally tough but has Zvonareva tendancies in her. Congrats in adance Victoria for an incredible career. Only permanent injury will stop you. |

Country : Canada Birthday : September 7, 1987 (21) Current WTA Ranking : 21 Highest Ranking : 21 (June 22, 2009) WTA Tour Titles : 1 (Tier II) Best Results at Grand Slams Australian Open - 1R (2007) (2009) French Open - 4R (2009) Wimbledon - 2R (2008) US Open - 1R (2007) (2008) Olympics - N/A ![]() ![]() ![]()
If I can say one thing about Wozniak its that shes the most imroved looking player on the tour shallow wise. Shes looks a lot better now then she does in the above pictures. Wozniak is currently the top ranked Canadian and really the only Canadian in tennis worth mentioning. Wozniak is already the fourth highest ranked Canadian singles player of all time. Born in Quebec, Wozniak speaks French, English, and Polish. And no, she is not realted to Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark. But both do have Polish decent hence the similar last names. She has won one WTA and is the only person from Quebec ever to have won a WTA tournament. Last week in a warm up tournament to Wimbledon, Wozniak reached the final at Eastbourne but was defeated in three sets by Caroline Wozniacki. And she bleached her hair and actually looks pretty ok for the first time ever. Finally havin a breakout year we will be seeing a lot more of her but until then 44 is her spot. |

43. Bille Jean King Country : Canada Birthday : November 22, 1943 (65) Current WTA Ranking : Retired dur Highest Ranking : 1 (1966) WTA Tour Titles : 129!! Best Results at Grand Slams Australian Open - WON (1968) French Open - WON (1972) Wimbledon - WON - (1966) (1967) (1968) (1972) (1973) (1975) US Open - WON (1967) (1971) (1972) (1974) Olympics - Non-existant ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
Wow, Bille Jean, where do I start with this one? Bille Jean is responsible for why the WTA exists. She founded the damn thing. Without her, rankings, YEC, equal prize money, etc. wouldnt even exist. She is best known for the Battle of the Sexes with Bobby Riggs in 1973. Riggs had been a top men's player in the 1930s and 1940s in both the amateur and professional ranks. In 1973, he took on the role of male chauvinist Claiming that the women's game was so inferior to the men's game that even a 55 year old like himself could beat the current top female players, he challenged and defeated Margaret Court 6-2, 6-1. King, who previously had rejected challenges from Riggs, then accepted a lucrative financial offer to play him. The match garnered huge publicity. In front of like 30,000 people King beat Riggs 6-4, 6-3, 6-3. The match is considered a very significant event in developing greater recognition and respect for women's tennis. Seriously Bille Jean has done so much for this damn game that I love so much that she will always be remembered for both her on court and off court behavior. Too many awards and countless honorable mentiones make it near impossible for me to list them all. Bille Jean is also a lesbian and I saw a documentary on her life once where she talked about how difficult it was to leave her husband Larry King to be a full time lesbian. King was inducted into the tennis hall of fame in 1987. Margaret Court, who won more Grand Slam titles than anyone, has said that King was the greatest competitor I've ever known. Chris Evert, winner of 18 Grand Slam singles titles, has said, She's the wisest human being that I've ever met and has vision people can only dream about. Billie Jean King is my mentor and has given me advice about my tennis and my boyfriends. On dealing with my parents and even how to raise children. And she doesn't have any. Life magazine in 1990 named her one of the 100 Most Important Americans of the 20th Century. In 2000, King received an award from the gladd organization devoted to reducing discrimination against gays, lesbians and bisexuals, for furthering the visibility and inclusion of the community in her work. The award noted her involvement in production and the free distribution of educational films, as well as serving on the boards of seceral aids charities. On November 20, 2007, King was presented with the 2007 Sunday Times Sports Women of the Year Lifetime Achievement award for her contribution to sport both on and off the court |

Na Li, I have so much compassion for. At the 2008 Beijing Olympics Na Li played for her own country. She defeated Venus Williams in the quarterfinals but lost to Dinara Safina in the semi finals. In the bronze medal match Na Li lost to Zvonareva. Such a shame to be playing for your own country and just miss out on a medal. Ive always felt horrible for her ever since. Maldoror did I piss you off with this? lol Na Li is a very soft spoken person and despite being ranked in the top 20 rarely anyone talks about her. Na Li is also known for her unenforced errors. One of Li's weaknesses is her usual high number of unforced errors in a match; because she goes for her hard groundstrokes, she misses many as well. Many believe that if Li toned down the unforced errors in her play she would be among the top ten in the world. Li Nas highest ranking is 16 and she was the first chinese player to rank in the top 20. Although she only has two WTA wins she has an astounding 19 ITF titles. Not a bad fact jack. Na has some nice grand slam results a couple of fourth rounds at The US and French Opens beaten by Dementieva and Sharapova respectively. Ive always liked Na and she can be a very dangerous player. |

41. Agnieszka Radwanska
Country : Poland Birthday : March 6, 1989 (20) Current WTA Ranking : 15 Highest Ranking : 9 (August 4, 2008) WTA Tour Titles : 4 TierII (1) Tier III (1) Tier IV (2) Best Results at Grand Slams Australian Open - QF (2008) French Open - 4R (2008) (2009) Wimbledon - QF (2008) US Open - 4R (2007) (2008) Olympics - 2R (2008 Beijing Olympics) WTA Championships - RR ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
Radwanska, the olded sister of Urszula finally appears. Radwanska is part of the up and coming generation of Wozniacki, Azarenka, Cubulkova, Cornet, Kleybanova, Cirstea, Lisicki, etc, but out of all those establised young players Radwanska found success first. We first heard of her at The 2007 US Open where she as a relatively no name face took out defending champion Maria Sharapova in the third round, 6-4 1-6 6-2. It was quite a shock since commentators were already pinning Maria to make the finals from the bottom half of the draw. Radwanksa ended up losing in the fourth round to Shahar Peer but everyone was talking about her and chances for huge future success. In 2008, Radwanska was one of only three WTA players to make the second week of all 4 grand slams, the other two being Jelena Jankovic and Elena Dementieva. Radwanska is a very dangerous player. Her favorite shot is her backhand down-the-line. She is also very accurate with the drop shot and lob. She lacks much of the power of other power players like Serena, Venus, Maria, and Victoria thus she relies on accuracy on constructing the point before hitting a winner. At The Australian Open 2008 she took out seeded player Svetlana Kuznetsova and Nadia Petrova to reach her first grand slam quarterfinal. Because of this result Radwanksa became the first Polish player to ever reach a qaurterfinal in a grand slam. In 2008 prior to Wimbledon Radwanska won the Tier II final at Eastoburne, marking her biggest career win ever. She defeated Nadia Petrova in the final. Although for such a woman who promised so muc talent in 2008 her 2009 results have been far from surperior. But still I look for her to be a multiple slam champion one day. It will be really interesting to see which of the established new generation of new players will have the most successful career. A year ago I wouldve said Radwanska but now im not so sure.

40. Nicole Vaidisova
Country : Czech Republic Birthday : April 23, 1989 (20) Current WTA Ranking : 67 Highest Ranking : 7 (May 14, 2007) WTA Tour Titles : 6 TierIII (3) Tier IV (3) Best Results at Grand Slams Australian Open - SF (2007) French Open - SF (2006) Wimbledon - QF (2007) (2008) US Open - 4R (2005) Olympics - N/A ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
Ladies and gentlemen meet the most tragic tennis story is quite some time. The name is Nicole Vaidisova, a former top 10 player at 17. And a former top 10 player she was. But not anymore and no one can even explain it. On May 14, 2007 Nicole became the 12th-youngest player in WTA Tour history to be ranked in the top 10. At The French Open in June 2006, she made a semifinal run. She defeated world No. 1 and home favorite Amelie Mauresmo in the fourth round 6-7 6-1 6-2. In the quarterfinals she defeated Venus Williams 6-7 6-1 6-3, and in the semi finals she was just points away from a victory over Svetlana Kuznetsova but lost 7-5 6-7 2-6. To make a run at a semi final at 17 is remarkable. She did it again at the Australian Open 2007 defeating Elena Dementieva and Lucie Safarova but lost to comeback queen Serena Williams. She also made another French Open quarterfinal run at The French Open later that year and also at Wimbledon. By the end of May 2006 at aged 18 she already had a remarkable 6 singles titles wrapped around her belt. So what the friggen hell happened? Well I dont know. In 2008 Nicole literally fell apart, and thats selling it it short. Well some experts and commentators believe Nicoles game completly fell apart after she began a relationship with Radek Stepanek a male tennis player who is 11 years her senior. The romance is probably took her focus off the game and she may not be practicing like she once did. She's probably just realised what she is dating and is in great, great denial/depression about it. Nicole also broke with her step-dad as her coach and he seemed to be the driving force behind her early rise but since hes gone Nicole plays like an amateur. This is truly hard to see this happen to her. 2009 has been abysmal. She lost in almost every first round she played in, and with a first round loss at Wimbledon 2009 and quarterfinal points to defend, Nicole will now drop out of the top 100. Nicole also has one of the largest fan bases in tennis and her fans are slowly starting to turn their backs on her, myself included since I one had her in my top 15. Nicole is also getting dropped by endorsements left and right as well. Many of us feel Nicole needs to take a break away from tennis to et her shit toether and hire a new coach or get her step dad back since she ows her early rise to him. Its truly terrible to think Nicole may never be the player she once was. I even stopped watching her matces since its too painful. Also sad to see since shes one of the sweetest people on the tour. |

39. Marion Bartoli
Country : France Birthday : October 2, 1984 (24) Current WTA Ranking : 11 Highest Ranking : 9 (October 22, 2007) WTA Tour Titles : 4 TierIII (2) Tier IV (1) Inernational (1) Best Results at Grand Slams Australian Open - QF (2009) French Open - 4R (2007) Wimbledon - Final (2009) US Open - 4R (2007) (2008) Olympics - N/A ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
Oh Marion. Marion is without a doubt the most strange person on the WTA. And very very controvesial. Lets see, well first off I sometimes feel bad for her. She never has any support in her players box. Only her dad comes to her matces. And its my understanding that not many players from her own home country of France even like her much. Because like I said Bartoli is very controversial. See one thing about Marion is that she is not very fit. She is not at all a good mover and she has probably the oddest serving motion of anyone. Its really weird. I need to find a youtube video of it. She like bounces up and down before she serves. Someone made me lol at tennis forum when they said it looks like shes constipated and trying to shake it out. Lolol. Bartoli is also unique in that she doesn't bounce the ball before her serve. She causes controversy because she is absolutely fucking notorious for injury timeouts. Its a long running joke that whenever Marion is down to her opponent she will call for the trainer, even if nothing appears wrong, most likely to stall for time and regroup. It really pisses her opponents off. And did I mention this girl is very odd? Of course I did, because its the first thing that comes to mind when I think of her. She does random weird fist pumps. At the French Open this year she looked like she was having a seizure on court. I was like someone call the doctor before she starts to foam all over the courts. She was constantly shaking her fists for no reason, between points, when she lost a point, when she double faulted. It was ridiculous and I couldnt stop laughing. I was like damn. But still and yet, besides all the trash talk Bartoli is actually a really decent player. She has defeated two WTA World Number ones in Grand Slam events, beating Justine Henin at the 2007 Semi Final Wimbledon Championships, (lost to Venus in the final) and Jelena Jankovic at the Round of 16 2009 Australian Open. However, she is not a very good mover and is further inhibited by her two fisted strokes, which can make her vulnerable to fast all court players. I lowered her ranking a little bit because of an incident at Eastbourne last week. Bartoli had to retire from her semi final match against Razzano another French player. Razzano came over to shake her and and Bartoli just brushed her off. Bitch Bitch Bitch. |

38. Agnes Szavay
Country : Hungary Birthday : December 29, 1988 (20) Current WTA Ranking : 28 Highest Ranking : 13 (April 14, 2008) WTA Tour Titles : 2 Tier II (1) Tier IV (1) Best Results at Grand Slams Australian Open - 1R (2008) (2009) French Open - 4R (2009) Wimbledon - 4R (2008) US Open - QF (2007) Olympics - N/A ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Szavay is up and coming and although she kind of peaked in late 2007 and has since fallen, she still shows signs of a great future. Szavay is Hungarys highest ranked tennis player and was WTAs awrded new comer of the year in 2007. In 2009 at The French Open Szavay upset Venus Williams seeded number 3 in the third round 6-0 6-4. It was the first time Venus lost a set at love (0) in 3 years. She was defeated 6-2, 6-4 by Dominika Cibulkova in round 4. In 2007 Szavay reached the quarterfinals of the US Open after defeating Nadia Petrova. Szavays first tournament after the US Open, Szavay reached the final of the Tier II Beijing Open. Szavay defeated Jelena Jankovic to claim her first Tier II title. But in late September Szavay's year ended abruptly because of a thigh injury. She did not play on the tour the remainder of the year. After a mediocre 2008, Szavay has returned to te top 30 but after a first round defeat at Wimbledon 2009 Szavays ranking may drop to around 35. Szavay squanders matches a lot often times having a considerable lead. One of many examples was Indian Wells 2009 against Agnieszka Radwanska when she held a 3-1 0 - 40 lead on Radwanksa serve. And lost. But I really like Szavay. She just looks like the girl next door and she was so happy at The French Open after her defeat of Venus. Im a sucker for beautiful smiles. |

Anastasia oh Anastasia. First off I saw her commentating at The French Open 2009 and I saw her in the crowds with other Russian players. Nice to see the Russians all so close. But she is so beautiful off the court. So exotic looking. You see her and know shes from an exotic country. Myskina was really one of the first players to be involved in the great rise of Russian tennis along with Dementieva, Petrova, Sharaova, and Kuznetsova. Those five really defined Russian tennis. In 2004 Anastaisa Myskina and Elena Dementieva were involved in the first of many all Russian slam finals. One of three that year!!!! Myskina defeated Dementieva 6-1 6-2 to become the first of many Russian grand slam champions. Prior to her French Open victory, she had never made it past the 2nd round at Roland Garros. Subsequent to this victory she rose to number 3 becoming the first Russian female tennis player to reach the top three in the history of the rankings. She lost in the 2004 olympics semifinal against Justine Henin after a lead of 5-1 in set 1. Then lost the bronze semi final match. But she did score 10 top 10 wins in 2004 which is pretty imressive and won Moscow in her own home country.. Myskina hasnt played professional tennis since 2007, and has stated she doesn't know whether she will return or not. But since giving birth to a baby boy in 2008 she will most likely stay out of tennis. It seems like forever since ive seen Myskina play but ive always liked her and thats not easy for me to say since she did defeat Dementieva. She really shouldve played longer but Myskina did suffer from a lot of injuries but it woudve been nice to see her along with all the other many Russinas battle it out to see who could come out on top. |

Anna Kournikova, seriously who has never heard of Anna Kournikova? Kournikova is probably known more for her modeling career over her tennis career which is evident in the fact that most image shots showed up like 0 tennis ones. Yeah and let me say Sydney who? Kournikova > Sydney in every way. Her celebrity status made her one of the best known tennis players worldwide. At the peak of her fame, fans looking for images of Kournikova made her name one of the most common search strings on the Internet search engines. Although also successful in singles, reaching number 8 in the world in 2000, Kournikova's specialty has been doubles, where she has at times been the world's number one ranked player winning 2 grand slam titles. In 1997, Anna Kournikova became the second woman ever to reach the semifinals as a debut at Wimbledon. As a player Kournikova was noted for her footspeed and aggressive baseline play, and excellent angles and dropshots; however, her relatively flat, high-risk groundstrokes tended to produce frequent errors, and her serve was sometimes unreliable in singles. Most of Kournikova's fame has come from the publicity surrounding her personal life, as well as numerous modeling shoots. During Kournikova's debut at the 1996 U.S. Open at the age of 15, the world noticed her beauty, and soon pictures of her appeared in numerous magazines worldwide. Kournikova was named one of Peoples 50 Most Beautiful People in 1998, 2000, 2002, and 2003 and was voted hottest female athlete as well. her singles career plateaued after 1999. For the most part, she managed to retain her ranking between 10 and 15 (her career high singles ranking was No.8), but her expected finals breakthrough failed to occur; she only reached four finals out of 130 singles tournaments, never in a Grand Slam event, and never won one. Her final playing years were marred by a string of injuries, especially back injuries, which caused her ranking to erode gradually. But still plays doubles. And of course still models. lol. Is this hot enough for you Mikester?????!!!!!!

Martina Hingis is one of the greatest players of tennis ever. And she could have possibly been the greatest of all time if it wasnt for countless injuries that left her out of the game often. Hingis set a series of youngest ever records before injuries in both ankles forced her to withdraw temporarily from professional tennis in 2002 at the age of 22. In 1997, Hingis became the undisputed World No. 1 women's tennis player. Martina became the youngest grand slam by winning the Australian Open at age 16 years and 3 months. In March, she became the youngest top ranked player in history. In fact the only Grand Slam singles title that Hingis failed to win was The French Open where she was a runner up twice. And one of those was the 1999 final and of course no one who saw this match can forget it. Only three points away from victory in the second set against Steffi Graf the crowd turned on her. During the match, Hingis had infuriated an already partisan crowd by arguing with the umpire over several line calls (crossing the net in one instance), taking a bathroom break early in the final set, and twice delivering a rare underhand serve on match point. In *$++! after the match, Hingis was comforted by her mother as she returned to the court for the trophy ceremony. Martina lost 4-6, 7-5, 6-2. Hingis underwent surgery on her right ankle in October 2001 and never found her form again. In 2003, at the age of 22, Hingis announced her retirement from tennis. Hingis, however, resurfaced in July 2005, playing singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. With promising results behind her, Hingis announced her return in 2006. Hingis posted her 500th career singles match victory in May and won her fist title upon return. Martina reached the quarterfinals off all majors in 2006 but never won another slam again. On November 1, 2007, Hingis said at a press conference that she was retiring permanently from competitive tennis. She admitted that she had tested positive for cocaine during Wimbeldon 2007. In January 2008, Martina was banned from tennis for two years after both cocaine tests tested positive. She has stated that she will not return to professional tennis when this ban expires. Such a shame because I like her but her career has been so marvelous so its all good. : ) |

Damn, its near impossible to find a nice picture of Alona when she generally is a very attractive girl. But whatever. Alona is the older sister of Kateryna who already appeared pages back. Together the two sisters won The Australian Open doubles tournament in 2008 without being seeded. That was Alonas greatest win and title. Alona is also Ukraines highest ranked player. Bondarenko won her first WTA tour singles title on October 1, 2006 in Luxembourg in a surprising title run at the Tier II event. The win meant that she was the second lowest-ranked player ever to win a Tier II title, being ranked a lowly number 62. In May 2007 she finished runner up at another tier II event at Warsaw, losing to Justine Henin. Surprsingly enough Bondarenko ended up in the same final in 2009 but lost to a 300th ranked player. :/ . It wouldve been Alonas best chance to win another title since the two top seeds pulled out prior to the start. Still, Alona hasnt had to much success in grand slams reaching the third round on a couple of occasions but I really like her so damn much and im still dying to see her make her big breakthrough. She is very notable for her A tatoo on her back. Everytime I see play I can help but notice it. She looks like this girl next door but edgy with a nose ring and a crazy looking tatoo. And she has a great sense of humor especially with her boyfriend who she openly flirts with during tournaments and when she plays. Very edgy girl. I like that. |

33. Kim Clijsters

First of all can I say how freaking happy I am Clijsters is returning to the sport next month!! With the WTA in shambles and no one really dominating Clijsters stated she felt she sould come back and it seemed to be a perfect time for her to do it. Kim Clijsters is a Belgian tennis player. She is a former world number one ranked player in singles and in doubles. She announced her retirement in May 2007 but almost two years later in March 2009 she publicly declared her intent to return to the WTA tour next summer for several hardcourt tournaments in the United States and Canada, including the US Open. On 11 August 2003, Clijsters attained the world number one rank and was the first player to be top ranked by the WTA without first winning a Grand Slam singles title. But certainly not the last as you will soon see. Clijsters finally won her first grand slam singles title after being runner ups at The French and Australian Opens in 2001, 2003, and 2004. It was The US Open 2005 where she defeated Mary Pierce in the final 6-3 6-1. Clijsters was involved in one of the most rememberable matches in grand slam final history at The French Open 2001. Clijsters lost to Jennifer Capriati 12-10 in the third set. This two hour, twenty-one minute match featured the longest third set in a French Open women's final. Clijsters was four times within two points of winning before Capriati prevailed. After that defeat it was nice to see her win The US Open in 2005. At the end of 2004 Clijsters suffered from a wrist injury forcing her to withdraw from most tournaments. She attempted a comeback towards the end of the year, winning several matches, before reaggravating the injury. In February, after almost a year of inactivity caused by injuries, she made her return. Clijsters was ranked World Number 133 and won Miami, a very important event. I mean I could go on and on about Clijsters accomplishments but id be here all day. I just cant wait to see her return next month. <3 |
