If it gets Drag Me to Hell nominated though I will love it.
The Critics Choice Awards does this too and most of their lists look reasonable - http://www.bfca.org/ccawards.php But being one out of 10 means so much less than being one out of 5.

Having a top 10 format is very common these days. It also might help more COMEDIES get nominated, which has been a problem for eons. Again, I think it is a
pretty good idea, though it likely won't be done as well as it should be done. And keep Baz Luhrman out of it.

They should nominate however many get votes above a certain threshold. So like one year there could be 5 nominees, the next year 7, then 4, or 8, whatever.

That would not work for broadcast. Broadcasts work partly because there is a sense of familiarity and expectation. If they change it permanently to ten, it
will work. Otherwise, people just get confused. Like the idea, but the dumb ones in the audience will get lost and there will only be ten people watching
instead of 11.8

Truthfully, who cares. They'll just nominate all their boring ass Oscar bait movie's and then just fill the rest of the spots up with other movies just
to please the fans, but those old windbags running the Oscars know those movie's don't have a shot in hell of getting their votes.
They'll just reward the same old, same old. |

Let's see, what were the 10 movies that probably got the most votes for Best Picture of 2008? Probably...Slumdog Millionaire, The Curious Case of Benjamin
Button, Milk, Frost/Nixon, The Reader, The Dark Knight, Doubt, WALL-E, Revolutionary Road and Vicky Christina Barcelona. Maybe The Wrestler, or Rachel Getting
Married. So while there might be room for the occasional sci-fi film, or animated movie, it's not likely to open the door for Eddie Murphy comedies or
Sandra Bullcok rom-coms.

^ True. Those were 10 viable movies.
And maybe we'll see more foreign movies nominated for Best Picture. |

Things like Dark Knight and Wall-E, however, would have a much better chance. And there is always a comedy that gets talked about, but not nominated. LAst year
it was Happy Go Lucky or In Bruges (amongst the critics, anyway). Fish Called Wanda is one that many were upset was not nominated ever so long ago. Two years
ago it was Charlie Wilson's War.

It kinda makes the winner a crap shoot with all that competition, doesn't it?

Had they had this four years ago, City of God would have been nominated for Best Picture alongside Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, Lost In Translation,
Mystic River, Seabiscuit and Master & Commander. And Pans Labyrinth would have easily made it the couple years later. So yes, this definitely helps foreign
films, at least the ones that 'cross over' pre-award time.

See? I am liking it. It makes things slightly less predictable, and fun for more fans.

I hope all fans of Pixar and The Dark Knight die in a raging fire.
I mean, movies that got snubbed like TDK were Almost Famous & The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, both far superior to that shit. And Pixar is the most overrated film studio in history. Their movies are too kiddy for me, not to mention the fact that they rip off Studio Ghibli stories, themes, etc. I'm sure plenty of Oscar nerds (who aren't insane like TDK fanboys) will complain about this, so I'm not going to cry about it. Yet. |

They used to have 10 nominees at one time didn't they?
I hope it gets more movies in that aren't the usual suspects that everyone expected to get in. Like In Bruges should have been nom'd. Normally I have a top 10 I like every year, so it doesn't bug me. I think Inglorious Basterds is going to be a big film this year, and Public Enemies. |

B - Pixar makes KIDS movies

Their movies are too kiddy for me, Uuuuuuuuuuuuh, well duh, they're movies made for children. They're still enjoyable, I don't think I've not liked a Pixar film. |

This wasn't done for Pixar and Dark Knight fans as much as the millions of dollars in revenue this will generate for 10x as many For Your Consideration
ads. Because NOW literally any film can make the top 10 with enough support. It could also go like this: for instance, if Robert Altman was still alive and he
made one of his movies with a thousand cast members, and everybody in the cast voted for their movie, it would probably make the list.

They used to have 10 nominees in the 30s/40s, which was OK since there were plenty of quality movies back then. This decade is easily the weakest.
I feel like this is so tainted and especially unfair to movies in the past that got snubbed. Being nominated is no longer a huge honor; this shit just devalues it. It's like the old middle school sentiment - "We're all winners!!!". Fuck that. Everyone hates the Golden Globes because they always have shit nominated in the Musical/Comedy categories. So get ready to see some of that crap like Mamma Mia! at the Oscars. The "comedies are so underrated at the Oscars" argument is bullshit considering each year we get maybe one or two decent comedies. This is too fucking dilutive. Fuck Sid Ganis, the board of governers, TDK fanboys, and Pixar. ETA: Pixar makes kids movies, but they pride themselves on having adult themes (even though they lack originality). |

Do NOT mess with my Robert Altman. I just watched McCabe and Mrs Miller again the other night. REMARKABLE fillum.

Good point about the ad revenue. There's going to be a lot of money made with this move.
I don't like Pixar movies either. I don't any movies aimed at kids though. I don't like animated movies in general, actually. Last one I saw was Lion King. |
