COMMENTS & QUESTIONS

(A) What did you think of the episode? Are you satisfied with the outcome?
This finale is definitely up there as one of the best! Though I first thought the Final 4 section was a bit predictable, it was nice to see GC take a risk and vote against Dan (much like Austin voted against Tina and Jessica voted against Sundra). Though I think in the real show he would take his chances with Randy and Dan, it was nice to see him try yet another move, though it ultimately failed. Your final Immunity Challenge reminded me a lot of one from Mario Lanza's Survivor All-Stars fanfic, which was pretty cool and simple. And as much as I loved the new Dan/Randy alliance, it was nice to see GC win. And for all the positive things I've been saying about Dan these past few episodes, the hate seemed to come back and I was so happy to see him go. I guess I just didn't like the "Powerhouse" and it was nice to see the three of them + Jacquie to all go in a row. Randy/GC is probably one of the best Final 2's you've ever had, and I completely agree about the comparison between the China finale and this. In the beginning of the Final Tribal Council, I was rooting for Randy simply because I loved him as a character. But GC did a kickass job at answering questions, and it was nice justice to see Randy's crass words cost him the win. Though I felt really bad for how dissapointed he was that he didn't (kind of like how I'm still bitter Earl didn't win Fiji). But it was a fairly exciting conclusion that wrapped up some nice storylines. Overall I was satisfied!

Final Tribal Council. Definitely one of the best ones you've ever written. Looking at two completely different strategies, the jurors' reactions, their questions. Plus the Crystal/Randy fight was fun to read.

COMMENTS & QUESTIONS

(A) What did you think of the episode? Are you satisfied with the outcome?

I really liked it! As you might know, I've only been reading since Micronesia, and I would say this finale was a lot better. Though I think the Paloma boot was really predictable, it's most likely what would've happened in the real show too. GC talking about winning immunity pretty much foreshadowed him winning it for me. I really thought that GC would take Dan though, good job surprising me there. Then we get to the FTC, best part of the episode for me! Great questions, great answers, it seemed so real. Though Randy had a realistic chance at the swing votes, I knew by the time Dan asked his question that GC was the winner.

Great season! I agree with you that character development was easier with 18 people than with 20. I feel like I got to know Charlie and Dan more than Eliza and Mikey B, and since Micronesia's my basis for comparison, great job!

(B) Which story has been your favorite so far: Guatemala, Exile Island, Cook Islands, Fiji, All-Stars: Belize, China, Micronesia, or Gabon?

Uh, since I've only been reading for two seasons, I'm going to say Gabon. It seemed more thorough and more well thought-out. Maybe that's why the season took longer to finish, because it was so detailed.

(C) What was your overall favorite part of the episode?

FTC for sure. Better than the ones in the real show. Everything just made sense to me. Nothing like Natalie's question to Parv in real Micronesia, or Ozzy's stupid speech, etc. Every question seemed to connect to the game itself, and I liked that.

(D) What would you rate this episode out of 10? (1 being the lowest; 10 being the highest)

10 for sure. Deserves a 10000000 but since your spreadsheet will only go 10, I'll say 10.

(E) Which contestants from Gabon do you think would be most worthy of appearing in another All-Stars edition (if this ever happens)?

Hello Mr X819! Thank you very much for another great post of comments, and for being so thorough and detailed with everything. As always, you bring up some excellent points and I enjoyed reading everything you had to say. Also, another huge thank you to you for all of the hard work you put into the Wiki site! I really appreciate that! :)

This finale is definitely up there as one of the best! Thank you! I'm glad you liked the finale. I agree on the F4 being a little predictable, as Paloma was the obvious choice to go. I'm not sure I agree that G.C. would take his chances with R/D though. A big part of his ending story was doing whatever he could to win the million dollars, and if that meant making a move to try to get rid of Dan, he was definitely doing to do it. So I think he would have done the same - even though it ultimately failed.

Your final Immunity Challenge reminded me a lot of one from Mario Lanza's Survivor All-Stars fanfic, which was pretty cool and simple.

Hmm, well I wouldn't know about this, but hopefully the challenge was only *similar* and not exactly the same. I'd be surprised if it was the same.

And as much as I loved the new Dan/Randy alliance, it was nice to see GC win. And for all the positive things I've been saying about Dan these past few episodes, the hate seemed to come back and I was so happy to see him go.

Oh, well you were not supposed to be happy to see Dan go, but you were supposed to be glad for G.C. to win over Randy.

Yeah, especially when they screwed up and had a 4-2 majority over G.C./Randy and could have easily just gone to the Final Four. I figured some people would be glad for that. BTW, just out of interest, Randy would have gone 6th, G.C. 5th, Jacquie 4th, Paloma 3rd, Charlie 2nd, Dan 1st.

Randy/GC is probably one of the best Final 2's you've ever had, and I completely agree about the comparison between the China finale and this. I'm glad you liked Randy/G.C. as the Final Two, and yeah the comparison is very accurate, but G.C. was never wishywashy in the same sense that Erik was and he laid out his strategy very well, unlike Erik. Good that you were satisfied in the ending.

Thank you for this list. It's interesting to see how every person's opinions vary quite a bit. I think Guatemala would have been a million times better if I was writing it now, and even Exile or Cook Islands. Fiji is probably the first of what I consider the almost "modern" seasons, and then China is the first of the current "era" for me. But I was surprised to see Gabon so low. Episodes 6-8, which are kindof the middle, are 3 of the highest rated of the season and then the early merge episodes were fairly strong too, especially compared to Fiji, where they were on the predictable side. But anyway, 5/8 is not bad. I was pleasantly surprised to see Micronesia as your favorite though! :)

Based on the average of the episode right now, I don't think it will rate quite as high, but it's about where I would expect it to be. I agree that Paloma's boot was predictable, but definitely realistic. I also believe that G.C. would have caused a tie there and given Paloma the chance to stay, but she would have lost at fire. Wow, you're another person who liked the FTC the best. I'm surprised! Thank you for the comment about it seeming real - I appreciate that!

Thanks. Glad you liked Gabon better. I think both of them were very well though-out. I might say that Micronesia was a bit more better planned though in terms of every single piece of the story fitting together from start to finish, whereas there were a few things in Gabon that could have been improved, such as Dan going at four so G.C. would easily win the Final Immunity, etc. But anyway. I don't think that's why it took me longer to finish - that was mostly because I've had a lot of other things going on, and school especially. But hopefully next season will NOT drag on like this.

Thank you very much! I have to agree here - I think the Final TCs the past few seasons on the real show have not been that good. You get questions that come out of left field or people who are overly bitter about being voted out, and especially finalists who don't even try to win or earn votes, and who give absolutely terrible performances. It's not good to end the season off that way, so I'm glad you liked this FTC! :)

I have two questions/comments before I fill out the survey:

1) I had an idea that we would have an African-American winner this season solely based on something you said. I remember you were describing how you considered having Cirie win Exile Island, and you said something about how you hadn't had a mother or an African-American winner at that point. I originally thought that it would be Crystal winning (due to the fact that she is both African-American and a mother), but I realized it would be GC winning (especially after Crystal left) instead.

2) I also remember you said that Randy could've been the one leaving at final six instead of Jacquie. If that was the case, would that mean that Jacquie would've been in the final two with GC instead?

I thought this was one of the most amazing episodes I read. I loved it. Even with Dan getting voted out, I thought it fit and was awesome. I really like the outcome (surprisingly), and by the final immunity challenge, I was hoping that G.C. would win. I really don't know why. I thought that the final three especially had so many good dynamics and there was so much you could do with it. I am glad that G.C. won and I believe that this is your best fanfic. :)

On a side note, I thought that Jacquie probably should have voted for G.C., making it 5-2. That's what I would have logically saw happening. However, I can see where she would possibly vote for Randy.

1. Corinne: a great character, but I don't think her character would come back. (maybe)
2. Ace: a good negative character that could be used... (maybe)
3. Crystal: brings a lot of dynamics into the season. (maybe)
4. G.C.: already won, but still a lot of story. (good)
5. Dan: can be a great player (plus he's my favorite player), but you've already shown a lot of his storyline. (very good)
6. Charlie: can easily come back and learn from his mistakes. (very good)
7. Randy: best villian ever... maybe besides Benjamin "Coach" Wade. (please!)

Well, I didn't do the best with edgic this season... However, I had fun and I hope you enjoyed reading what I thought. I was lead astray in thinking of a Dan/Randy final two and ignored G.C.... oh well! Again, it was a blast. :)

Hi MMan9000! Sorry for taking so long to respond to you. Thanks a lot for your comments on the finale! I'm glad that you read the story and have enjoyed it, and I've enjoyed reading your comments throughout the season! :)

Yeah, I would like to have a diverse group of winners with as many different kinds of people winning as possible with different stories/edits. I didn't pick G.C. just because Gabon was in Africa but that was something that happened to fit well and was an added bonus for me because I liked the idea behind that. It's just a matter of waiting for the right person and G.C. seemed like a good choice to me. I still do wish Cirie won, sometimes, though.

2) I also remember you said that Randy could've been the one leaving at final six instead of Jacquie. If that was the case, would that mean that Jacquie would've been in the final two with GC instead?

Randy going at F6 was a *possibility,* but I don't think it would have worked as well and it definitely would have not been Jacquie in the Final Two with G.C. It's not as simple as just switching people's positions because I have to make sure that the rest of the story would still be logical. In that case, it would have been Charlie or Paloma probably, but the only other person that I seriously considered having in the F2 with G.C. was Dan. I thought this was one of the most amazing episodes I read. I loved it. Even with Dan getting voted out, I thought it fit and was awesome. I really like the outcome (surprisingly), and by the final immunity challenge, I was hoping that G.C. would win. I really don't know why. I thought that the final three especially had so many good dynamics and there was so much you could do with it. I am glad that G.C. won and I believe that this is your best fanfic. :)

Thank you for all these positive comments! I really liked this Final Three too and I'm glad you were satisfied with the outcome - my goal was to make people happy with it and happy for G.C. Also glad that you think this was my best fanfic. I hope there is better yet to come...

On a side note, I thought that Jacquie probably should have voted for G.C., making it 5-2. That's what I would have logically saw happening. However, I can see where she would possibly vote for Randy.

That's definitely possible. As I've said, I had a REALLY hard time deciding votes for Dan and Jacquie, as I could have seen them going either way. So a 5-2 was something I thought about, as was a 4-3 vote with J voting for G.C. and D voting for Randy.

3. Micronesia.
4. Fiji (those I've only read the first half of the episodes...).

Well, I don't know. I'm just trying to get a sense of who people would want back.

1. Corinne: a great character, but I don't think her character would come back. (maybe)

I agree. As much as she would be fun, I don't think she would ever do it. Ever.

4. G.C.: already won, but still a lot of story. (good)

Yeah, I'd have to see about this one. I would probably have winners eligible since they were on my first All-Stars and Dave on Micro.

5. Dan: can be a great player (plus he's my favorite player), but you've already shown a lot of his storyline. (very good)

I would definitely want him back, but I do think there might be stronger personalities to go with.

7. Randy: best villian ever... maybe besides Benjamin "Coach" Wade. (please!)

The most people have selected Randy to come back. He could either be a huge villain or get a redemption edit, if this season were to ever occur.

I cannot think of any offhand, but I look forward to the Reunion Show! :)

Ace - 7 (you used his character well, but he's not the best villian on the show)

I think he was a strong villain around Eps 5-7, but then Randy took over more after the merge, so Ace faded out a bit in his last two eps when he probably should have been at his worst.

Corinne - 9 (though she sometimes went so far, she's gold!)

I definitely enjoyed writing for her the first half of the season and I love the way she went out of the game.

Crystal - 7 (EAT YO RICE)

Too bad she didn't have anything like this in my version...

Dan - 10 (my favorite character that I've ever seen you right...and I mean it. GREAT JOB!)

Thanks! He was definitely one of the biggest and best surprises for me also. I never would have expected him to be the winner when I first saw him and then I became more and more impressed by his video.

Gillian - 6 (got to love her, as annoying as she is lol)

I would have loved to see her go far in the game.

Matty - 4 (my least favorite character that you wrote for, and I'm sure you can identify with that)

During Gabon and at the time of writing this, he was definitely one of my least favorite as well. He grew on me a bit since then and I don't dislike him nearly as much. I'm pretty neutral on him now.

Paloma - 7 (I love her and I wish she could've had more of a chance)

I agreee. Episodes 5 and 6 were her shining moments in the game and for those, she is almost All-Star worthy if she could have that kind of performance.

Randy - 9 (great character, one of the best jobs you've done this season)

Well, I didn't do the best with edgic this season... However, I had fun and I hope you enjoyed reading what I thought. I was lead astray in thinking of a Dan/Randy final two and ignored G.C.... oh well! Again, it was a blast. :)

That's okay. Even though you didn't get G.C., you had Charlie, Dan, Randy, and Ace who were all big characters that made the merge and you had C/D as your top, and they were strong choices. I think what may have made you look away from G.C. is that you had him more plain MOR on your chart than I did, so that made his edit look more dull.

Thank you for keeping track of your own chart throughout the season. It was interesting looking at it every week and seeing how it compared. I hope you'll consider doing the same thing again next season.

Here are the averages for the last four seasons, which have complete data per episode:

All-Stars Belize: 8.66
Micronesia: 8.900714
Gabon: 8.901429
China: 8.945385

So Gabon ends up as #2 to China, just barely beating out Micronesia. The last three seasons have all been very close.

Hmm, I honestly remember next to nothing about that episode (like most of the post-merge All-Stars season) so I'm sure it wasn't that good, but I think the fact that Jonathan was voted off probably made it lower too.

It was the one where Jonathan and his new allies (a bunch of girls) decided to take someone out, I think Brandon. Candace decided sneakily to take out Jonathan, he found out, so he lead a charge to turn it on her, then she found out. It was just back and forth and then Jonathan just said screw it and went guns a blazin. It was really intense. I remember all of All-Stars, it was a good ass season. I think it was one of the better one.

All in all it was a good season.

But even though he got a lot farther in your fic than I was expecting (I totally thought you were gonna dump him pre-merge, and early pre-merge at at that), I'm more than a little disappointed that Ken turned out to be a lesser character in your story.

Really, REALLY glad you ultimately decided against having Bob win, though. Seeing him win again in an "alternate Survivor reality" fic would've been horrid.

Thank you. I do remember Jonathan trying to get Candice voted out in the end now that you mention it. I would not have recalled that before. 110 episodes is a lot to keep track off!

Sorry about that. There's always a few characters that I have to kindof "sacrifice" without ignoring them, and Ken was just one of the people that I couldn't show as much. His role was basically to be Randy's sidekick until his finale episode, and I think he did that well.

Yeah, Bob winning would not have been too great and it would have made people relive the horror they experienced with real Gabon, so I'm glad it did not happen.
