"Swayze was admitted to hospital with pneumonia earlier this month, despite being in constant demand for work."

We see a lot of pancreatic cancer on the floor I work on. I'm by no means an expert with this type of cancer, but the prognosis is pretty bleak. Even if
you have a Whipple's procedure, the outcome is only 5% making it more than 5 years.

Whipple procedure is where they surgically remove part (or all) of the pancreas and/or surrounding organs.
Without it, the survival rate is practically nil. With it, the survival rates are still less than 3% at the 2 year mark. My dad had it done on March 10th, 2008 10.5 hrs of surgery. Radiation, Chemo, drugs, etc. In Jan, (less than 1 year) we found out his cancer metasticised, (tumor present on his trachea and also on his spine/aorta) and is now considered untreatable. We found out last night that they're giving him about 6 months (generous guess) :*( Since my dad and swayze were diagnosed around the same time, I wouldn't be surprised if there's new emerging stories of him quickly declining. I'd be extremely surprised if he survives the year. |

That's terrible news. So sorry : ( : ( ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There's a procedure even more radical than the whipple done in Houston. But it is extremely high-risk. An old friend had it done and lived for 10 years, but that case was rare and slow-growing. |
