"Fun Home" is awesome! I just finished "Hater" by David Moody! Highly recommended!

Has anyone read anything by Jen Lancaster (ie Bitter is the New Black)? I downloaded this piece of crap onto my Kindle by accident.
Is this a brilliant satire or is this woman just a steaming turdpile? |

I'm reading American Lion by Jon Meachum now, in actual paperback book form. Not this fancy electronic slate thingee you people have.

I just finished Duma Key by Stephen King which was very good.
I'm currently reading The Ride by Brian MacQuarrie about a local child murder case that paved the way for the death penalty being brought back to Massachusetts in special circumstances. Also Dark Places, a middle of the road murder mystery/thriller. It sucks the big weenie. And I'm listening to Stephen King's On Writing which is fabulous. |

Speaking of Stephen King, he recommended an author named Louise Penny in Entertainment Weekly. Her books were perfect for the mini-vacation we had last week.
Mysteries with some quirky characters.

Gup - I read Bitter is the new Black. It was trash. Total self-absorbed bitch.

One of the best banned books ever written. No artist, writer, or general malcontent should fail to read this one...

I returned that book to the library in 1971. I have a witness - Sherry Becker. She wore an orange dress.

I need a couple of good "beach books".
None of that vampire shit. Something that will hold my interest, but allows breaks for people watching without having to "get back into it". :) thanks. |

Actually, have you ever read "Beaches" (the book the movie was based on) and/or it's sequel "Beaches II: I'll Be There"? The sequel
title is shit, but they're fun summer reads. The sequel deals with Cece raising her friend's daughter.
This week I'm reading "Speaker for the Dead" by Orson Scott Card, "The Corrections" by J. Franzen, and I just finished the new Anita Blake book by Laurell K. Hamilton, called "Skin Trade." It's a LOT better than the last eight or so Anita books. This one takes place in Las Vegas, far away from Anita's tiresome harem and features Edward, Olaf and Bernardo. Anita doesn't even have sex til like a couple hundred pages into the book. Pretty good, though still not as good as the first six or seven books. |

Thanks, Shag.
I hadn't read the books, but it sounds like they would be good to take. (didn't even know there was a sequel) I loved the story when I saw the movie. yay! :) |

In the woods was very good. I really hoped a few more things would be cleared up by the end, but overall a good read.
I started on "Choke" but haven't gotten back to it in a couple of weeks. A kind of slow start. Has anyone finished it and can tell me if it's worth picking back up? |

Choke was ok, but it gets a little "wtf" near the end. I liked Fight Club and Diary better.
Has anyone read the Wheel of Time series? I've always wanted to read them, but I've heard that most of the later books are horrible and there's no payoff at the end. :c \ |

CHOKE's in my bathroom book holder thingy. I've got to finish HAUNTED and some other ones first.

Choke is overrated, I actually liked Survivor better.
Patrick, do a search for "Wheel of Time" with the OT search button. We've had a couple threads about it over the years, hah. Update: I am in the mood to re-read some Sherlock Holmes. |
