Congrats to all the quitters...it really is a HUGE accomplishment! I quit 3 months ago today using Chantix, but I had the rage issues, too. Right off the
bat, it changed my sleep patterns. I'd fall asleep OK, but wake up every two hours, and not be able to fall back asleep for about 45 minutes. I tried
sleeping later on the weekends, but it didn't work...I'd just WAKE UP. So after about 6 weeks of lack of sleep, I started to feel really pissed off
all the time. I quit the drug cold turkey when I chased somebody for 45 minutes because he cut me off on the highway...I followed him all the way home and
really was ready to take a tire iron to his head. If I hadn't lost him at a red light, I may have actually done something to him. That made me stop and
think, so I took a Friday off from work, stopped taking the drug and forced myself to sleep all weekend. I felt much better on Monday.
When I hear people are starting the drug, I don't tell them this story...I feel like the drug did it's job, as I have quit and don't feel the need to start again. I just hope that their reaction to it is better. |

I've finally decided that Sunday is THE day.
It took forever to get through trips and B-Days and special events (all of which I knew I would HAVE to smoke at/during) and then I had to pick the day of the week to quit on. Oh god... that was the worst part. Be distracted at work during the weekdays, yet perhaps blow up at someone there, or be bored at home and possibly go out at night on the weekend and be extremely tempted. So, I'm quitting on SUNDAY. I'll have gone out the two nights before and will be able to get it all out of my system (and have another 5 days before going out again the following weekend - and hopefully I'll be over the really bad days by then) and I'm just going to lie in bed ALL DAY and sleep (because that's all I will feel like doing). And then Monday and Tuesday, hopefully I'll be so distracted at work I won't think too much about it (I'm doing Chantix, so I'm assuming I won't be craving as bad as I would cold turkey). :whine: I'm scared. |

Well, great. Now I don't know if I should take the Chantix or now. Thanks a LOT, InDaNeck!

I could only handle it for two weeks because of the sleep interference, but that was enough to get me to quit.

No, Take the drug!! If you read back through the thread, you'll see different people have different reactions. You'll be fine! If you notice
something weird, call your doctor. It works!

What if the something weird I notice is that I jump out of a window and DIE?
What THEN, smartypants? |

No, the GOOD part is that it's all about hurting OTHERS, not yourself! You've been taking the drug for a week, right? If you were going to have a
violent reaction, you would have already. The cravings are cut down dramatically by the drug, so keep yourself busy and away from things that make you want to
smoke (for me, it was driving...always lit up in the car). As time goes by, you may notice the sleep thing or the dram thing, and if it gets bad, you will
call your doctor....but by then, you will have quit smoking! You'll be OK.....as weird as it sounds, reading this thread helped me a lot.

So, I should stay in the house and not drive, not eat, not have sex, not wake up, and not go to bed.
Gotcha. :cry I'm so screwed! |

Like chocolate and strawberry and stuff like that. I'm not sure why, but you can. I'm seriously thinking of doing this, as you can have a smoke in a bar with them. |

LOL...No, you can drive and eat and sleep and everything else (and do NOT give up sex!). My biggest problem was smoking was a habit and a reward for getting
something done- "OK, I finished cleaning the house, now I'll have a butt", and after I quit, I continued to think that way...and when I did, it
was always a bit of a surprise to me-"Nope, you can't do that". I smoked for 20 years, and I can honestly say that I never had a nicotine
fit....I was in the habit of smoking, and it would pop into my brain to have one, I'd say no, and move on. The pills work...it reduces the cravings for
the nicotine, you just have to break the habit of having one after a meal, after sex, etc.....it's more fun to go back for seconds on the sex anyway...much
better than a cigarette.

What am I supposed to reward myself with now?
"Ooh, here's a piece of chewing gum!" =/ |

Well, the sex thing is good for THAT, too. You can eat, drink and do everything else that you did before...so reward yourself the way you are used to doing
it!

12 and a half hours down. Small cravings, but I knew because of experience in the past, that if I don't have that first wakeup cig, it's not TOO bad.
It's after I have that first cig of the day - that's when the cravings for the next one get worse and worse as the day goes on. So, if I don't HAVE a first cig of the day, it's really not TOO bad. I didn't do the starter week of the Chantix (I took that LAST time I tried to quit), so I just started taking the week two big pills. Hopefully it doesn't make me commit suicide, but hey, at least I'll die smokefree. |

Oh, and yeah, tomorrow and Tuesday are going to be the scary days, I know. I don't know if I TRUST myself driving alone in my car, honestly.
If days 2 and 3 are the hell days - I might need to take a cab to and from work or have a friend or coworkers drive me. lol Smoking in the car is one of the BIGGEST things for me. UGGGGGHHHHHH I can't drive and not smoke! That's CRAZY!!!!!!!!! |

lilnubber wrote:I smoked between a 1.5 and 2 packs... depending on how busy I was that day. It really adds up fast I ended up quitting cold turkey after I ended up in the ER because I couldn't breathe. I'm still dealing with that on a much lesser level, and there's no way I'm ever smoking another cigarette. Congrats to all the new quitters!!!! |
