I mean, he was a good (maybe a great) singer, but the best ever? I don't think so. He'll have to make an album that passes for a Jason Mraz record to come anywhere close to the success of the other successful Idol alums. With AI writers, that's not likely. Elliot, Bo, and Allison are also overrated on this list. If I had to rate the remaining 10, from #1 to 10, I'd say: Kelly, Carrie, David, Melinda, Jennifer, Kris, Jordin, Elliot, Allison, and Bo.

He was cannon fodder who refused to lay down for the judges and TPTB when they wanted him gone. Paula was the only one who gushed about Adam from the very beginning and most people accept that Paula is high. I've watched Adam's performances several times with the comments and yes they were positive but they weren't tongue bathing him like some people make it sound. and he only had the pimp spot TWICE the entire season....

He had it in the group 2 semi final round, Mad World, Feelin Good, and then again the very next week with Slow Ride. Of course they tried to make it look like they weren't blatantly giving him the pimp spot two weeks in a row by having him share it with Allison. Not to mention he went in the second half of the show almost every week except rock week when the judges already proclaimed he would be the best of the night.

You need to watch his performances again. Adam got the pimp slot at Top36 Group2, Top 8, Top 5, Top 4 (duet where he and Allison where they sang last), and Top 3 (3 straight pimp slots). That is a record 5 pimp slots (along with Clay). In most other weeks, he performed near the end of the show. Simon begged people to vote for Adam during Top 4 and had the judges chanting vote, vote, vote. They interrupted their critiques of all the other contestants by praising Adam that week. The producers cleared special songs for him (Led Zeppelin), Simon named dropped Bono and U2, special lighting and effects ... whatever Adam wanted. The praise from the judges were almost always OTT. I am glad because they almost never criticized him or offered him any suggestions for improvement. So because of that maybe he felt he didn't need to change things up or tone down his singing which for some people was polarizing. He stagnated and became repetitive and the OTT praise and the plateau effect help lead to Kris overtaking him in the voting. Adam Lambert was definitely the most pimped contestant in AI history.

I think therein lies the difference for me. Adam, IMO, genuinely deserved the praise he received. He was bringing something new and different week after week. he was raising his own game every show. He was on pitch and vocally superior every single week. Should they have slammed him just to make it more even? NO. what they should've done was not throw OTHERS under the bus in their effort to push DANNY forward. They weren't throwing Kris and Allison under the bus for Adam if you ask me. It was for Danny. As for the pimp spot and Adam going in the last half of the show every week you're only partially right. They flip a coin for Finale night so it seems to be that they probably have some kind of random draw to determine when people perform...if that's not the case don't you think SOMEONE would've bitched BY NOW? Kris went last Disco week and got huge amounts of praise for his Donna Summer song. He was also praised for Ain't No Sunshine, and various other performances. Simon was the only judge that wasn't fully on board with Kris every single time...but he really wasn't with Adam either from the start. It's also been discussed that Adam is the one who REQUESTED all the lighting and shit that made his performances stand out....the others could've done the same thing.... all the crying and whining is lame now that the season is over and Adam didn't even win... Adam went last at Top3 night with Cryin' They definitely bussed everyone on rock week and OTT praised Adam because they were genuinely scared that Adam was not going to make it (bottom 2 the previous week even with the pimp slot). The producers have a large say in who goes last. 5 times out of 12 performing weeks (if you count top36 group 2) is 40% of the time is not random, plus the other times where he went late in the show. You can request things on the show but the thing is whether the show will grant it to you. They gave everything to Adam, pimped him to high heavens, begged everyone to vote for him and got egg on their face when America rejected their rock god in favor of cannon fodder. And yeah, Danny/Adam/Lil who had massive audition and hollywood week exposure just randomly ended up with the pimp spot in the semi finals. And yes, other people got praised at various points throughout the season, but none to the level that Adam did. Most of the time people like Kris and Allison got a "it was good but..." while Adam received complete praise even for mediocre performances like One and Cryin (you know, the night Simon BEGGED people to vote for Adam).
