I'm not sure that's gonna placate Sheila, especially since Odette is French (not sure what Wanda is, but since it's so far down the alphabet,
there's not much chance they'll make it that far)

Fred sounds like one of those canes that come in, sit down, read the paper for a while and leave a big stinky mess to clean up.

Hurricane Uncle Fred has a nice ring to it. So I checked CBR's link and mine was used before I was even born. Damn. |

Last April 22, during the 31st session of World Meteorological Organization's Regional Association IV Hurricane Committee, the WMO retired Gustav, Ike and
Paloma. They are now replaced with Gonzalo, Isaias and Paulette for list VI in six-year cycle lists.

It's been pouring here all week with the weird rain bands.
I donnae like it that it's starting so early. It's not even the official start date. |

Seemed like the last two days we had a tropical depression...sideways wind, trees falling over etc. It was cool while I was in work, not so much once I had to
drive in it.
Then when I got home yesterday a tree had fallen and I fear the baby woodpeckers didn't get out beforehand |

If Invest 90 makes landfall before it gets to TS status do we call it a miss because these things lose a lot power once they get over land?
"Invest" is short for Area of Investigation, usually an area of low pressure. They are numbered in order from 90 to 99, and then it goes back to 90 again. An invest is something the hurricane center is keeping an eye on, essentially, for tropical development. Next comes a depression followed by a storm. This one won't get beyond the invest stage, due to coming ashore before it can really get going. Sometimes when the tropics are really cooking one or more stages get skipped, and we might go directly from an innocent looking blob of showers to a full-fledged storm. I think Atlantic invests usually have an "L" as in 90L, because the same strange numbering system is used in all the oceans, with a letter to identify the ocean.

Has anyone noticed that recently Jim Cantore on the weather channel is starting to look more and more like the old dancing man from the 6 Flags commercials.
With his bald head and black rimmed glasses they are beginning to look like father and son.
