Aw thanks Smalltownboy. It's called putting off finding places for all my stuff, believe it or not, I am currently sorting though cards and letters from 1920 through around 1980...great grandmothers, grandmothers, and mother's stuff. It's a family of packrats--and tough to toss without checking each one for hidden treasures.

So, when I need a break I refresh the page. I need lots of breaks, to get over tossing stuff out that is almost a century old. (Kate would hate me, I am totally team Jon on that one.)

It's interesting to have finally watched some of this show, after hearing for years about the fanatical Kate-hate. I always wondered why people would watch it, but never got around to it.

My (limited) synopsis of the whole thing is:

• Kate and Jon get married young, both working, fertility problems.
• Take drugs have twins
• Decide to have ONE more kid, take drugs again, end up with 6 more
• While Kate is pregnant Jon is fired, he claims they didn't want to pay medical, they claim he was stealing
• Discovery offers them a few shows, they agree, since he isn't working and realistically, she can't work as a nurse with all those babies. I think fear over money was quite real at this point.
• Reports are that Kate was greedy at this point and expected society to pay. (confirmed or rumor? no idea)
  
• TLC picks it up and they start filming 3 days a week for the current show
• Kate is mean to Jon
• Jon can't stand up for himself enough to say no to the show or manage to insist on better treatment from his wife
• Everyone loves Jon and hates Kate
• Kate hustles and starts writing books and collecting $3000 per speaking engagement, bringing in cash to the family
• The inlaws get pissed that they can't cash in too, or Kate gets greedy about it, and they start spilling infidelitiy stuff, and selling their story to tabloids for the sake of the kids
• Jon almost certainly cheats on Kate, rumors start flying about Kate's hunky bodyguard.
• New season starts and Jon shows up for work with Kate

It's kind of fascinating really. It's hard not to visualize Kate in the traditional male role of providing for the family and wonder if she would be taking this much shit if the penis and vagina were swapped. She would probably take shit for being verbally abusive to her wife (Jon) but I doubt Jon would get praise for bathing his kids each night if he were the wife. As I said before, either one of them would drive me nuts IRL. I am not fond of stone cold bitches, but I admire hustle. I like laid back people, but not if I am in a financial relationship with them, and I can't stand the passive-agressive victim types who can't stand up for themselves.

Nice is nice, but someone had to take care of this family, and it just doesn't seem as if Jon had the gumption to figure out a way to do that. Being poor, IMO, is just as bad as having cameras film your childhood. Was the trade-off worth it?

I also find it so interesting that Kate takes the bulk of the blame for this show's existance. Is Jon a child? Isn't he signing contracts? So, no, I just don't buy that poor Jon has been forced into taking all that money. He is an adult, if he doesn't want to do the show, he doesn't have to.
