Well there goes that theory :P So yea, unless they just werent thinking about dates so much back then (its been known to happen) then there must be two incidences. Which would really make no sense, but oh well.

I'm beginning to wonder if that's the case with the Purge as well. Based on ghost-Horace's comment to Locke that he'd been dead for 12 years (and that we know the Purge was on Ben's birthday), we can date the Purge to December 1992. However, other items seem to point to the Purge having occurred earlier. For example, Danielle visited the radio tower to create the distress signal in January 1989 and there obviously weren't any Dharma people stationed there at the time. Now, perhaps there were never supposed to be people stationed there, but it seems odd that Dharma wouldn't mind someone changing their numbers broadcast for a few years...

That was in the last episodes of season 4. The writers had known for a year the show was ending, and should have been piecing together the timelines alot more diligently by then. The Swan hatch dharma video was in the 3rd episode of season 2. Wayyyyyy before they had any idea how long the show would be running or exactly when/where future stuff would be taking place. Heck, there was no Benjamin Linus as Others leader yet! So im more inclined to believe dates, and blast door map info, in early season 2 could be innacurate now.

Gregg Nations is the continuity guy & stuff is coming out now about how he's screwing up with birthdays, ages & pop tops. In the past I've been able to shrug oddities off thinking we'll be getting answers & it will make perfect sense later on but now I'm not so sure.

If "Whatever happened, happened" still applies then it could very well be that detonating jughead to try to prevent the incident IS the incident. Though it seems that somehow Daniel seemed to have a timeline about what was going to happen and when. So it's up in the air for me.

I think so, too. I can't think of anyone who would support him. This is really confusing the everlovingfuck out of me. I thought he was beginning to lean more towards fate/destiny and now he's moving away from fate just because Daniel said he should? Where's Locke when he needs him?? Oh yeah. He's where he's supposed to be! WWLD On the other hand, it probably is his destiny to be the cause of the incident. So he's probably not changing a thing. Just a few weeks ago I posted on another thread: If Jack is the cause of the incident, someone please shoot me. Some folks may blindly follow Jack but even Hurley mentioned in one of the recent episodes (at least I think it was him) that why would they want to leave when they just went to all that trouble to get there? And just going and blowing something up because of something some crazy (they think he is; I don't) scientist wrote in a journal? That sounds more like Locke's MO than Jack's. And if they really wanted to stay, all they would have to do is stop Jack from blowing the damn thing up; no real war necessary. I guess they could possibly think they weren't leaving the island as much as going back to 2007 but that would be a pretty huge leap of faith. Oh well, anything's possible especially with this show so I guess I won't rule it out.
