Fanuatapu looks very cool and the imagery of the name plays well, but I don't think it will be used.Why not use it for Exile? No one will be on it and SEG could rent it for 8 weeks.

Nuulopa Island, between Manono and Apulima, would be a closer location for Exile -- with the added creepiness factor that it contains the graves of many Manono
chiefs. Aitu, or ghosts, may play as one of the themes for the season.

It's interesting they would choose to do this in Samoa (formerly Western Samoa) as opposed to American Samoa/ Pago Pago? I wonder if they couldn't get
permission to film on American Samoa?
I wonder if they are planning on having the pseudo military element, a bit like Survivor 1, as there would be surely be some German WWI sites/wrecks somewhere in Western Samoa- not sure where though? Does anyone know? Robert Louis Stevenson wrote Treasure Island while living in Samoa, maybe they might go with a pirate theme again? I'll puke if another Rupert type makes the show though. I would think that having a pirate themed survivor in current economic climate would be bad taste- but "bad taste" has never stopped them before with the "social experiment" racial Cook Islands Survivor and gender based Vanuatu Survivor etc. |

American Samoa was under consideration about three years ago. The local Department of Commerce responded to a 70+ page questionnaire and some follow-up
scouting, but there really isn't a suitably isolated location on the main island of Tutuila. (Western) Samoa is much larger, not as densely populated, and
has more spectacular scenic locations that will make better tv. American Samoa also lacks any beach resorts that are large enough to accommodate the
production company.

Only a week and a half until the preview. Let's begin speculation on the logo, tribe names etc.
I'm thinking the logo will look similar to Marquesas and All-stars (islands in the background) with a silhouette of a man holding a spear in the foreground. Given the producers' usual lack of imagination, Savaii and Upolu could very well be the tribe names. |
