I honestly completely agree with Kitty Pryde... this is well written, but I just don't like the result and don't think GCrystal made the right move... why trade F5 for F6?! and it wasn't really a shocking blindside because things looked WAY too rosy for the Fang 5 in the last episode that there was no way they would stay together this episode. Honestly, the 5 staying together would've been more shocking.I understand what you're saying, and I appreciate the comment that it was well written. I said this to KittyPryde, but I'll put it again here: The move by Crystal and G.C. could definitely end up being costly for them. People don't always make the best moves, and that's something I was conscious of for Gabon. Looking back at my past seasons, I felt that my characters were more likely to make stronger strategic moves for themselves than most do in the real show, and I had to realize that people don't always do this in Survivor. Sometimes they do makes mistakes. Maybe it will pay off for them and maybe they'll regret it. The best example of this is Denise in real China. If it were my fanfic, I'm 99% sure you would have forced a tie with PG/Erik at Final 6 against T/C/A, rather than just accepting fourth like she did. It might have worked for her and it might have got her voted off fifth instead. The same thing can happen here. Crystal made a move to not get 5th place. She might do worse than that or she might be able to navigate the remaining alliances and do better.
But just like Survivor can't always go the way we want, neither can the fic.... so I'm not mad at you, Guatemala, I'm actually mad at the players (which, if I feel emotion for non-existant people, you're doing your job.) Why were GC, Crystal, Ace, and Randy so dumb this episode? Damn you folks!I appreciate that too. Crystal and G.C. weren't necessarily dumb. It's too early to tell that yet. Ace wasn't dumb - he was *arrogant* just like Paloma said, and this is why he didn't use the idols. He was blinded by arrogance. Randy was, arguably, dumb in that he sortof rampaged and this caused him to lose sight of the game a bit and not see that berating G.C. was not the best thing to do. Randy is very strategic and into the game, but his negative actions could cost him.
And finally, you may have just gotten a bit unlucky with Gabon... The story of real Gabon was that the smug assholes who were "supposed to" win all got taken out, where here it seems to be the opposite, so some of us might just be unable to shake that mindset. Even though the Kota 4 were the minority, they still felt like the people in real Gabon who got taken out by a bunch of losers.... and here, as in the show, I was rooting for the losers!Understandable. There's still lots of time for the game to shift again (and again) though, so we'll have to see.
I appreciate you reading the episode and sharing your comments. Thanks again! :)
ETA: I'm not going to address any of the banter on the last page, but I appreciate you stepping in there.
