just saw it, it was alright. A concept as high as this needed to have an incredibly strong cast to carry it, sadly I don't think we have it. Eliza's
good but not great, all you have to do is look at Toni Colette in United States of Tara to see what a great actress can do with such a role as this. I really
felt that it was the exact same person at each "engagement". The whole episode felt like it was all over the place and I didn't really feel sold
on the concept or the characters. I'll still be watching though.

ANOTHER great episode!!!
I really wish Eliza made it to the Buffy reunion.. that would have been awesome to see her there. MAYBE she'll go to Hallowhedon and I can finally meet her. Either way, I REALLY want to go to Paleyfest again but last year cost me a few K that I am still trying to get back :O |

Tonight's episode was fantastic. I actually think that it would have been an awesome pilot as it actually introduced the characters to us and allowed us to
see the relationship form between Echo and her handler. It also set up the Alpha plotline for the future which is great. It didn't feel that sporadic to me
at all.

I agree, it would have been a better pilot. More explanation of what was going on.

In other news, Dollhouse's first episode made it to ITune's #1 most downloaded TV show this past week. Huzzah.

Did anyone read THE HUNGER GAMES? Tonight's episode seemed like a lightened rip-off version of that book. I mean, even the bow and arrow is the key weapon
in The Hunger Games.
I don't know. I had such high hopes for DOLLHOUSE but it's not living up to its potential. It's confusing, hard to follow, none of the characters are really all that likable except for the handler guy, and I really don't think Eliza Dushku is right for the part. She's not talented enough. I'll give it a few more episodes, but so far I am not hooked. This is the premise of the hunger games: p.s. this book is AMAZING.

Confusing and hard to follow? Are you watching the same show we are? Echo gets imprinted with someone else's personality and antics ensue. How hard is that
to comprehend?

The A plot with Echo getting imprinted isn't confusing. It's the other stuff. The guy investigating and calling someone on the phone? I really
can't follow that plot, what they want, who they are tracking vs manipulating, etc. Part of the reason is that all the actors look the same to me so I
can't tell them apart.
Also I had some other issues. The transitions to the flashbacks could have been smoother. They jarred me every time because I thought I'd missed something and Echo had escaped from the woods. Some kind of different treatment to the footage or maybe different hairstyles or desaturated colors would have helped. And I felt that Echo often got out of things too easily with scene changes. Like there was one spot where the bad guy had the arrow trained on her and she looked up like a deer in headlights. They cut to a new scene or a commercial and when it came back to Echo, she was in mid-sprint trying to lose the guy. But how did she thwart him in the first place when he had her in checkmate? I realize these are writing/post-production issues though so I tried to refrain from mentioning them. Oops!

I thought it was a great episode, of course leaving me wanting more. I have no complaints about it, except that it wasn't longer.
I'm actually glad this wasn't the pilot, because in the pilot you see Echo's handler actually caring about her and feeling for her. Last night's episode we got flashbacks to when he first joined the Dollhouse and we see how detached he was towards Echo, not at all seeing her as a human being or someone he cared about. I like how we were able to see how their relationship has developed. And Mandie, stories involving people hunting other people have been around FOREVER and all are a "rip-off" of a 1924 short story by Richard Connell entitled The Most Dangerous Game. I'm not a fan of the "prostitution" angle of the Dollhouse, as others have said, but at least it gives me more reason to dislike the people running the Dollhouse and root for Echo to figure things out and also root for FBI guy to find his elusive Dollhouse. I'm going to enjoy watching all the pieces come together regarding Echo/Caroline's past & Alpha and how FBI guy began his obsession with finding the Dollhouse. Love this show. |
