Bear Naked Announces Nationwide Recall of Peanut Butter Granola Due to Peanut Corporation of America Recall

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- La Jolla, CA -- February 17, 2009 --- Bear Naked today announced a voluntary nationwide recall of 12-ounce packages of Bear Naked® All-Natural Peanut Butter Granola and Bear Naked® All-Natural Peanut Butter Granola with Heavenly Chocolate with a "Better If Used Before" date prior to Feb 01, 2010 and the following UPC bar codes on the package: 8-5641600100 and 8-5641600185. These products are being recalled as a precaution because they contain peanut pieces sourced from the Plainview, Texas plant of Peanut Corporation which have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Peanut Corporation of America is no longer a supplier to Bear Naked and no other Bear Naked products are involved in this recall. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection to these Bear Naked products.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled products are urged to destroy them. Consumers with questions or who would like a refund may contact the cute Aussie doctor. Consumers with questions or concerns about their health should contact their doctor.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
