The Dharma Initiative wrote: Just to be fair...from todays EW Lost article... ''I was a little worried about the start of the season, to be honest,'' says Lilly, battling back a cold and enjoying some late-afternoon Hawaii sun in between takes. ''It might sound terrible to say, but the mythology of this show eludes me. I am all about the characters and the interplay of the relationships and the angst of redemption and retribution - all those good nuggets. So, in my biased view, I've been running around telling the world: 'Be patient! It's just the first half of the season! We'll come back!''' Matthew Fox has another, more optimistic take. ''It feels very different from what Lost has felt like in the past, but in a really good way,'' says the actor, sporting neatly parted hair and some dangling iPod earbuds. ''There will be many, many answers, lots of things from past seasons that left the audience thinking, 'That's never going to pay off' - but it does, in really cool ways that make you go 'Holy s---!' The season has a real feeling of things coming together, and it builds a groundswell of momentum for the end of the show.'' The producers promise an approach to time travel backed by researchable science (Popular Mechanics even has a Lost blog analyzing it) and grounded in humanity. Cuse and Lindelof allow that the season premiere - in which a fragmented narrative mirrored the Island's erratic skips through time - may not have totally nailed that value, but they believe it was a necessary starting point. ''The complex episodes come early this season,'' says Cuse, ''but they lead to greater rewards downstream once the audience understands the rules of the game for the year.''
the storytellers hope that anyone who has ever been a Lost fan will tune in next year as the show moves into payoff mode and begins resolving long-term character arcs. Indeed, compared with this year, season 6 sounds like it could be something of a blast from the season 1 past. Lindelof teases that the sci-fi-heavy season 5 (which includes more Smokey, four-toed statue, and numbers intrigue) ''sets up where we need to go in season 6, which will be much more grounded and character-centric than it is this year.'' |

I'm loving Season 5! The writers give Lost viewers credit by giving us something intelligent to watch and talk about. The show makes its viewers ask
intelligent questions on religion, physics, and existentialism. Compare it to Heroes, which basically made its cast very dumb. Heroes also wants its viewers
play dumb by asking them to forego obvious plotholes.
From Lost's core story in Season 1, it was able to beautifully create an impressive mythology that makes a lot of sense. Heroes had a good Season 1, but unfortunately failed to build its mythology. Volume 2 (Generations) was promising, but fell flat. X-Files for example had a very simple plot (2 FBI agents investigating mysteries), but it was successful in creating its mythology. We learned about Mulder's family, Cancer Man, the experiments done on Samantha Mulder, etc... |

Start talking to casual fans who think this show is hokey, not your Internet life saga

I just rewatched some episodes from season 1 and man this show has come along way. The tone and the style of the characters is just totally different!

I remember in watching the premiere episode of Lost, I knew I was going to be hooked by the story, but the monster made me feel VERY uneasy. I wasn't sure
I could go that<g>. But the writers very wisely ...all along have done an excellent job of handing me, the viewer, questionable stuff, in a way that
makes the story itself irresistable. This is just MY opinion. This season , so far is equal to season 1 for myself. And when I learned prior to this season
that it involved the time travel for certain....that same uneasy feeling from season 1 and the monster hit me. But...thanks to the terrific writing...I'm
enjoying it as much as ever.
I know some people never wanted anything sci-fi about Lost...and some people wanted nothing but a sci-fi feeling from it. I guess I learned to be sort of in the middle and feel comfortable with how it's going. Bottom line...it's just a great story. |

I don't think anybody (nobody with any sense anyways) never wanted anything sci-fi in Lost, since it was fairly obvious from the get that
it wasn't going to just be some regular old island and such. But when the creators said way back in the day (before we knew they lied about everything all
the time) that it wasn't going to get too sci-fi, some people took that to mean exactly what it means.
I won't be able to say it's a great story for myself until the end, because for me a sucky ending can ruin an otherwise great story. Which is not to say I'll suddenly hate Lost if it has an unsatisfying ending, but it would move it down the list a bit for me. really? I started about half way through S1 Lol! I actually didn't get to that point until last season. |
