Remember when Amy Adams was getting Oscar buzz last year for Enchanted and almost almost made the cut? Good times.

She was in Drop Dead Gorgeous?

According to imdb it was her first movie. She was the slutty clueless cheerleader. So cute <3

I love that movie. It's one I've actually watched more than once. Maybe even 3 times! I'm surprised I don't remember her.

Leslie Miller! How could you forget her in that movie? Her "talent" was cheering the wrestlers..."roll 'em over, lay 'em flat, pin their
shoulders to the mat!"
Remember, if she dies choking on swan gas, cover up the hickeys on her neck...and her thighs. |

I saw The Wrestler. It was very good, better than I expected. Mickey Rourke gives a surprisingly raw, powerful performance. Wouldn't put him on the top of
my list to win the Oscar, but if he manages to win I'd think he deserved it.
Marisa Tomei was very good too, even with her boobs out half the film. It'd be funny if she manages a second surprise supporting actress win. That's shaping up to be the most volatile category, by our discussion anyway. And let's not forget her underrated and stunning portrayal of cheerleader/beauty queen Leslie Miller in "Drop Dead Gorgeous". ;) LOL. She really was amazing in Junebug though if you haven't seen it! |

Also, if you love Amy Adams in Junebug, then you will probably also like Sally Hawkins' performance in Happy-Go-Lucky. I'm still so upset she
didn't get nominated. I'm actually watching Changeling right now and the fact this ridiculous performance by Angelina Jolie has been more recognized is
absolute crap.

It would be awesome if Kate Winslet and Marisa Tomei won the female acting prizes, for playing roles in which they essentially naked for half of their films.

Vickie, Vicky, or Michael Vick, who cares. Dumb, boring movie, jmo. The narrator on it was boring as hell also, and it sounded like the way Woody talks only
he used an actor because no one wants to hear Woody doing a voice over.
I think Penelope has a lock on her Oscar this year, they love her and so does the public. Kate not getting in that category gave her the most votes, jmo. Anyway, I was reading over the Oscar database at Oscars.com, and it's interesting seeing who was nominated, who won, etc. Robert Duvall in 1983, but where is F. Murray Abraham from 1984? Geoffrey Rush winner 1996, is still around in the odd part, now and then, plus it's fun to see the one's I had no idea had an Oscar, like Timothy Hutton from 1980, and that movie was excellent he was in, "Ordinary People." Louis Gossett Jr. for "An Officer and a Gentleman" 1982, Haing Ngor (RIP) 1984, plus I forgot Michael Caine's two 1999 and 1986, and Sean Connery 1987 which I am glad of and didn't remember, Kevin Kline 1988, and I have no idea why I forgot Robin Williams' Oscar of 1997, or Benecio Del Toro's of 2000. Which can anybody answer why "Che" and Benecio were completely ignored this year? Or why "Defiance" and Daniel Craig and Liev Schrieber were ignored. Where is Brenda Fricker now from 1989, and Linda Hunt of 1983? Geraldine Page won Best Actress in 1985, there was a great actress (RIP). It's fun reading back in that database to see who was nominated and who lost as well, and where are they now? It would be awesome if Kate Winslet and Marisa Tomei won the female acting prizes, for playing roles in which they essentially naked for half of their films. LOL, and Viggo so deserved it his nude scene was awesome last year. Oh, and I am so hoping that Joey Fatone gets to interview Sean Penn like he did James Franco at the SAG Awards and asked him "what is it like to play a homosexual?" "Did you get lots of homosexuals going to this movie?" And Franco answering with a smile, "it's like playing any character," and "lots of people are going to the movie, men and women." Really, for a big laugh before the Awards don't miss Joey Fatone on the TV Guide Channel, along with Ryan of course who also asks ridiculous questions, remember his last year asking Jessica Alba if she was going to breast feed.

Beautiful Patsy wrote:Amy Adams was great in Junebug (which many people never saw) but, she stole the 'movie'. I don't know if Melissa Leo deserves the Oscar but, she played a very raw, kind and desperate mother with 'needs' beyond her ability. And, for that, I thought she was well cast and did a great job. No, it's not a stellar film but she was very good. I'm not surprised she was nominated at all. I'm happy that they recognize performances from films hardly 'on the movie map'. It's refreshing..life FEBREEZE! |

1. Kate Winslet cancelling herself out. Henson was more than likely in sixth place. That's not why. If you read about it, the Academy decides which category, and they put Kate's movies in Leading Actress only. Tho Kate, her mgt., whatever, had submitted her as Supporting for "The Reader" and Lead for "Revolutionary Road." L.A. Times, By Rachel Abramowitz

^That's not how it works. The members who vote for performances (actors, by the way) get to put any performance in any category. It doesn't matter
where they campaigned. If the voters wanted to put Mickey Rourke in the supporting category, they could have.
Yet the rules are different for the Oscars, which permit actors only one nomination per category and assign the category as the academy - not the potential nominee - sees fit. The 5,800 Oscar voters were clearly overwhelmed by what many consider one of the actress' best performances. This is what I said.

Finally got around to watching Doubt and The Reader. They were both better than I expected, with The Reader being better. Doubt was good, with a lot of good
"powerful" scenes with the actors. I think all 4 actors are deserving of their nomination although I'm not sure I think either of them should win
in their categories against who they're up against.
Even though I knew I'd probably love Kate's character in The Reader I really knew nothing about the movie before watching it. Her performance is truly one of those that I can honestly see either in the Actress or Supporting Actress category based on role, screentime, etc. Her expressions throughout the movie were just amazing, I especially loved the way she acted in the scene with the menu and lunch, you just feel for her there. As many have said, she's deserved Oscars in other years before so it'll be great to finally watch her get one, and honestly deserving it too for this role, unlike other "overdue" Oscars. Overall it was a good movie but it would probably not end in my top 5 of the year though. I still say The Wrestler should've been in the running. |

What's not to get? RDJ put on a terrific performance in a movie that not only was well-received by the public, but critics as well. Comedic performances
are vastly overlooked, IMO. You don't have to play a struggling crackwhore in a heavy drama in order to get a nomination.

Watched Rachel Getting Married. I expected to like it but I didn't. Boring, and I didn't like the "bland suburbanites meets all the cultures of
the world" angle either.
But, and it's a big but, Anne Hathaway did give a great performance (and so did Debra Winger and the girl who played Rachel) and there were a few great scenes among all the boring ones (Kym's confrontation with her mother, the mother leaving the wedding, the final shot as the credits rolled, and a few others). |

Funny about 'Rachel Getting Married'... Debra Winger (another Judi Dench moment of 'short scene but powerful), I actually liked the actress who
played her sister (Rachel) more than Anne Hatheway..I thought she had a complex role being supportive of Hatheway's character yet feeling 'fed up'
and over-run by her drug addicted life. Too bad she wasn't nominated, I actually thought she would be a nominee..she did get a lot of positive critical
acclaim for that role.
It was nice to see A. Hath'way in a different role but I don't think it should automatically give you power to win awards...many actresses break form and 'suddenly' they are amazing! NOT... seen it a lot..help me out here and tell me of some who have done this..we know Jim Carrey did it and Adam Sandler... |
