Posts: 136 (02/10/09 5:43 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	Here are my initial Mole predictions: MALE - Hans FEMALE - Paula Hans was very overt in his sabotage this episode, but compared to the other men, he seems the most Mole-y to me. Rick was not as prominent this episode, but he would be my second Mole pick among the men because, in my opinion, he has a high Mole factor. Paula appears to be a good Mole candidate. She seems smart and knows when to listen. Along with Rick, she did not receive much coverage in this episode, but it would seem that she sabotaged the Topito Negotiation game. Second among the women would be Viviënne because she's got that cutesy/innocent persona going on and her youth/inexperience might provide a good cover.

It's a fresh new season of the Mole :) I like the format of this version too, despite it being celebs, it doesn't feel like they are. I'm not done with the episode yet, but I had to say that Dennis is brilliant. Not putting in his own name, and instead putting in someone he suspected was genius. The first challenge was spectacular, if the American version thought of challenges like that it would still be on the air. I thought what Dennis did was hilarious but I'm doubtful that the producers didn't consider that someone would do that. Seems strange to me. I really enjoyed both challenges. The warehouse picture reenactment was clever and looked like it would be tons of fun! The topito game was a good take on a classic game that I don't like - the one where the host says "you have x minutes to decide who gets the exemption...GO!" By introducing the topitos into a negotiation setting, players have the opportunity to influence and make deals with others in private. Brilliant. I'm on the fence with the little "twist" at the beginning though. I love the concept but if we are to believe that the four ex-Moles decided who the Mole was based on their interviews, we can automatically eliminate those who answered "no": Dennis and either Rick, Anniek, Paula, or Hans. Here are their decisions: NO (certain, +€500): Dennis NO (uncertain, +€500): Anniek, Hans YES (certain, -€500): Vivienne, Sebastiaan, Vera, Jon, Froukje YES (uncertain, -€500): Rick, Paula It could just be that the producers are lieing to us and they already had a Mole picked out beforehand. You're probably right on being able to eliminate Dennis, and it feels weird that it seems we can actually root for him because of it. Of course, the producers could have lied, or he could have been taken into that mole room after he said no without us seeing it. If they were being honest, though, I really like that twist. It throws everyone for a loop and puts a lot of pressure on the mole to perform out of the gate. I'm looking at Jon and Sebastiaan as the mole at this point.

In 2006, she won the Guido de Moorprijs (an annual award for best actress). Anniek played in nine theatre plays, among which are Othello and Carmen. She was also in nine movies, of which "Ik ook van you" [Love you too] and "Costa" are best known. Further, she played a role in "Westenwind" (a drama serie) and "Grijpstra & De Gier (a detective series). He started at TMF (Dutch MTV), where he hosted the shows "Summerbase" and "Late night live show". Later he became a part of BNN (public broadcasting, targets teenagers and young adults). For BNN, he hosted the controversial tv-shows "Try before you die" (where the hosts do the things they want to do before they die, one of the things Dennis did was make a photo shoot for Playgirl) and "Spuiten & slikken" (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spuiten_en_Slikken). Later, he did a travel show, called "Weg met BNN". In 2008, he was one of the celebrities who appeared in "Ranking the stars" (where a group of ten celebrities have to rank themselves based on questions, like "Who is the most arrogant" and "Who is most likely to cheat on their partner"). Froukje Jansen Froukje first become known as gymnast and became Dutch champion. After a few years, she decided to try something else. After four seasons, she became an actress and acted in the movie "Profs". In 2006 she had her own travel show and travelled through Iran. Later she hosted the show "LLinke soep", where she talks with celebrities about environmental issues. Recently, she became the host of a new travelling show, with Sebastiaan Labrie. Hans Schiffers Hans is a radiohost. He started with the illegal broadcaster "City radio". In 1985, he was hired by Radio 3 and hosted shows as "De baas van de week", "Het steenen tijdperk" and "Arbeidsvitaminen". In 1992, he hosted the tv-shows "Fort Boyard" and "Boggle". She also wrote a few plays and does voice-overs for commercials. Rick Engelkes Rick studies fashion and worked for a few years as fashiondesigner in Paris, France. After this, he returned to the Netherlands and worked as model. In 1990 he played the very popular role of Doctor Simon in the most popular Dutch soap opera: Goede Tijden, Slechte Tijden. After four years, he quit and got a role in the detective series "Blauw blauw". Later, he started his own production company and produced the theatre plays "Sexual perversity" and "Romeo over Julia". Later, he played a role in the movie "Kruimeltje". Sebastiaan Labrie Sebastiaan studies theatre in Amsterdam and did theatre workshops in New York. In 2007, she was one of the jurors in the Belgian edition of Idols. Viviënne van der Assem Viviënne had her beakthrough when she played the role of Sophie in the soap opera " Goudkust". Later, she played Lizzy in "Onderweg naar morgen". From 1998 to 2000 she was in a few theatreplays. In 2004, she played a role in the childrensmovie " ZOOP". The producers try to make sure they find people who are fans of the show and who really want to take part. No Leo Sayer (CBBUK) types who care more about their image than about having fun and doing the challenges. There are also no Dennis Rodman-type players, who appear in every realityshow there is. -------------------------------- If something is not clear, please say so. I had trouble with translating some expressions (for example, in one of the next episodes, my dictionary translated an expression as "Bachelors' wives and maidens' children are well thought", but I have no clue whether that expression is regularly used because I had never heared it before in the English tv-shows I watch) and for some words I would not find a proper translation, so if something is unclear, please ask and I'll try to explain it.

It's interesting to see that Sebastiaan works with Froukje at their job (secret coalition?), Hans interviews Mole contestants, and Jon was in a Titanic musical (hint in Episode 1?). Regarding the poll from the Dutch Mole fansite, it appears that the biggest jump from pre-show predictions to post-Episode 1 predictions was Paula, with a +43 and Jon behind her with a +40. If I was the Mole and we just won the first game, I might try to screw up the second one. I think a good strategy for The Mole in the topito game would be to make it far in the negotiations and then either make sure that I sent someone to the final round who is stubborn/selfish or make it to the final round myself and cause negotiations to break down. The problem comes with Hans and Sebastiaan, since they were not selected for the game. I don't think the Mole would put themself in a position to not get picked for a game. What happened with Bill from US Season 2 (being the odd one out in Anderson's Funhouse and returning to the hotel) was completely random, but this situation was not. So I'm backing off Hans a bit from my Mole pick and going more with Paula.

Posts: 33 (02/11/09 8:01 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	yay, my mole bug is back! i'm not sure if dennis can do what he said he did. he could have lied to say that to Jon. what if he's the mole and he typed someone's name, he'd not know that he's the one selected? also, the whole "there's no mole yet" could be just another game, which means, the mole was already pre-selected. i thought the mole has to go through some training and preparations. this seems a bit "too last minute" to pick the mole and not sure if whoever they pick is ready to do the job.

I definitely agree that the producers would have thought ahead and I'd bet that the reason for lining up the 4 ex-Moles behind a player while they sat at the computer was to ensure that they entered their own name. Dennis is probably lying to give himself a psychological advantage over the players, which is a brilliant move in itself. Who wouldn't want to form a coalition with someone they believe has has a key piece of information?

I wanted to introduce theories and opinions of others who know this game far better than we do. They are the Dutch fans of Wie is de Mol and they've had 10 seasons to figure out the inner workings of their show. Art already introduced some insight from their end by posting a poll, so let me add to that. Regarding the topito game: This image comes from Niuno at a Dutch Mole fansite* and shows the flow of topitos and results of each negotiation. Solid red indicates the player gave away their topito and prevented the loss of money. Striped red (Viviënne) indicates the player gave away their topito but had some influence in the breakdown of a negotiation (she told Paula not to let Rick win). * I only plan on revealing the particular site at the end of this season. The reason for this is because I would like to keep things as spoiler-free as possible. Due to the amount of time it takes to translate and edit each episode, we will always be a few episodes behind. Art and I will try to keep things balanced in terms of information we gather from these outside sources.

I know that in one previous season, the Mole was selected months before the game started, because the Mole had to do some training in order to make the tasks fail (eg. learn how to waterski). I guess in this season, the former Moles did pick the new Mole, but the producers had a big influence. The production probably had two-three people who they thought could be a good Mole and they made sure the former Moles picked one of them. What's also interesting is that the former Moles and the candidates know eachother obviously. The Netherlands has a small showbuisness and most people have worked with eachother at one time or the other (for example, the older former female Mole was in the same soap opera as Rick & Sebastiaan were and was in another soap opera with Anniek, the young blonde former Mole has worked for the same broadcasting company as Dennis has, etcetra).
