I love Ellen too and try to watch her show when I can. She is truly real. She is now co owner of Halo products and the spokesperson for Cover Girl. She is actually very pretty and looks good for her age. Her and Portia make a lovely couple.

I am a fan of Clay and pretty much knew he was gay all along but did not care. And I am not closing the door on his singing career. Broadway was a nice "side job" for him, it showed another facet. I think he has a good singing voice and hopefully one day he will be on the radio. And all those fans who left, who cares????? Fans come and go. I don't know how some of you have the "inside" and stats of how many fans he has lost. If you do it based on sales, remember promotion was nil. OMWH is a great album. Lover all Alone was worth the price alone.

When Ellen came out there was a huge backlash. It took 5 years to regain her popularity. The Ellen Degeneres talk show premiered in 2003.

Ellen premiered in 1994. In 1997 it made television history when she came out as a lesbian.

After the initial coming out frenzy the show's ratings declined and ABC began feeling the pain of an organized backlash from religious conservative groups regarding the "gay content" being exhibited. While the final episodes of Ellen were also widely criticized for focusing too much on gay issues, a criticism begun in anti-gay circles, but which spread to the mainstream media. Eventually, even some members of the gay community, such as GLAAD media director Chastity Bono, began to criticize the show's tone as well. Soon after, ABC pulled the show from the air in May 1998 after five seasons.

The Tap Project

One of the many humanitarian projects that Clay Aiken has been involved with is called The Tap Project.

The Tap Project started in 2007 in New York City. It was a simple concept: restaurants would ask their patrons to donate $1 or more for the tap water they would usually enjoy for free. All the funds that were raised went to support UNICEF's efforts to bring clean and accessible water to millions of children around the world.

In 2007, 300 New York City restaurants participated and it grew to over 2, 300 across the country in 2008. The Tap Project has grown into a national movement that involves restaurants, corporations, community groups, local governments, volunteers and everyday diners. Each has a goal to save the lives of millions of children.

During World Water Week, March 22-28, 2009, The Tap Project will again raise donations and awareness for UNICEF's water and sanitation programs. At this time, UNICEF provides access to safe water and sanitation facilities and promotes safe hygiene in more than 90 countries. By the year 2015, UNICEF expects to reduce the number of people without safe water and basic sanitation by 50%.
Why not join Clay Aiken and be a volunteer for UNICEF's Tap Project. The event is coming up soon and they are still need Tap Project City Coordinators to help plan and implement the Tap Project in many locations. According to the UNICEF website; "These positions offer volunteers a unique and exciting opportunity to shape their UNICEF Volunteer experience and the Tap Project in their communities, while gaining valuable leadership and nonprofit management skills." okay, but Clay hadn't come out as gay when his last album was released so why do you think that didn't sell as well as it should've Robbin?

On My Way Here, the CD, had no promotion to speak of, if Clay had the same level of Promo as Kelly is getting now he would have sold millions. Maybe the new label will treat him right. It isn't the music or the artist at fault.

If Kelly had gotten the same treatment as Clay, all the world would ever remember of her is her covers from AI, AMLT and MI. Imagine how much she'd be selling on albums 2,3 and 4 if Miss Independent was her only moderately supported single and then nothing for 5 years.

THE NEW ALBUM: "I know a lot (of the fans) like to like everything I do," Clay says, but on the new album there will be something everyone won't like, but also something everyone WILL like. A lot of you want Clay to rock out, or as he calls it "do rockin' songs" - and he says on the new album he does - but it's hard for him to find such songs. "I can't find one I'm comfortable with." He was reluctant to pick a favorite or signature song from this album but eventually said the song Something About Us could be it.

Promotion is everything. Kelly got it moderately for Thankful, both barrels loaded for Breakaway, zilch for My December, and now loaded barrels again for the new CD. Don't know anything about Clay's promo, it doesn't seem he's ever really had it. DJ's, program managers, etc. hated him. His songs for more suited for AC if that and he didn't really seem to care if OMWH did well or not since he moderately promoted it himself for a few weeks, and then disappeared until the baby arrived. Go figure. No tour, no single. Maybe Clay is very hard to deal with. Who knows.

I've heard my local DJs say that they hated Clay's people (I'm assuming his publicist and the like). They like Clay himself (he came in for an interview years ago), but they said his people were jerks.

Who knows is right. Somewhere along the line, something went wrong with Clay's singing career.

Yes it did. Clay had/has a wonderful voice (except when he sings in that higher register crap - me no likey that). No one talks about his voice anymore. It's absolutely everything except his voice.

You guys went through a similar let down with Kelly's MD so you should know about hope, followed by disappointment.

and let's recall Clay appeared on QVC, Kimmel, The View, Tyra and had any number of print and television ads for that CD.

He did not appear on Tyra for OMWH. there also weren't any major print or TV ads. You're thinking of ATDW in 2006 which was bad but not as bad as for OMWH. Clay's promo was nearly non existent this time.

Clay Aiken Clings to Tyra Banks

Clay Aiken helps talk show host Tyra Banks celebrate her 500th episode by giving her audience tickets to Spamalot in NYC on Monday.

Clay has been performing in Spamalot since Jan. 18, and is scheduled to continue through May 4.

Clay, 29, who has sold more than 6 million albums, co-authored a best-selling book, and played six sold-out concert tours, said that he really couldn't have asked for a more wonderful group of people to work with in Spamalot.

His latest album, On My Way Here, is scheduled to be released May 6th.

I was never hopeful about My December. I knew that album was fucked the minute the release got delayed for the second time and when the media picked up on the "fight" between Kelly and Clive. Her single was dead on radio weeks prior to the album dropping so most logical Kelly fans knew that album was in trouble. And I'm not disappointed in the sales of that album. Selling almost 800K CDs on one single and in the middle of a firestore is pretty damn impressive.

How many DJ or interviewers has Clay hung up on or gotten shitty with during his short career? The mates love it and laugh but the truth is that burns bridges, esp in an industry as small as music.

That is the appearance I'm talking about. I could swear he sang on that show...or maybe he just kissed Tyra....I recall the mates being very pleased with that appearance.

whatever. OMWH is a great album regardless of sales or radio play. The quality isn't always reflected in an album's performance IMO.

Clay was on Tyra 3 times. The first time to promote ATDW in Nov 2006, the second time was a pre-taped performance of "Mary Did You Know" for Christmas 2006. The third time was also pre-taped and shown in March or April 2008 when he was promoting Spamalot, but there was nothing for OMWH.
