The camera cuts ahead to show one of Kota's yellow walls and then scrolls up to show a hole near the top of it, before fading out to show a close-up view of Jeff> Jeff Probst: <talking loudly> Come on in, guys! <The camera shows a wide view of the entire challenge area, as the seven Kota members can be seen walking towards their yellow tribal mat. The camera focuses in on both G.C. and Matty, and then returns to Jeff> Jeff Probst: <talking loudly> Fang, come on in! <A front view of the eight Fang members walking in to the challenge area is shown, as the camera focuses on them for a few seconds> Jeff Probst: Kota, getting your first look at the new Fang tribe: <The camera now shows Crystal, as she turns her head towards Kota, and then zooms out to show a wide view of both tribes> Michelle voted out at the last Tribal Council. <A prominent drumbeat is heard, as the camera shows a surprised Sugar widening her eyes and then turns to a smiling Crystal> Crystal: Good job. <laughs> <Another clip of the entire Fang tribe is shown, as the castaways gather into a group on their red mat. Jeff is then shown again> Jeff Probst: You guys ready to get to it? <The camera shows quick views of both tribes again, as the castaways respond with an enthusiastic "Yes!" A close-up view of Bob is shown next> Bob: Let's go. <Dan can be heard saying "Absolutely," before the camera goes back to Jeff> Jeff Probst: For today's challenge, each tribe will start with a large pile of tribe-colored balls. <A clip of small red balls arranged in a pyramidal shape on Fang's red mat is shown> You will toss a ball to the next tribe member, <The camera shows a male castaway tossing one of Kota's balls forward> through holes in two walls, <A close-up view of one of Fang's wooden walls is shown, before the camera zooms in on the hole> while members of the other tribe use wooden clubs <A female castaway can be seen wielding a yellow club> and will attempt to knock that ball away and prevent it from going through. <The camera now shows a clip of a male castaway knocking one of Kota's yellow balls away> Once you get three balls to the end, <A clip of three red balls in a basket on Fang's final mat is shown> two tribe members will take those balls and maneuver them, <The camera shows a maze puzzle, as a yellow ball can be seen rolling along the path> one at a time, through a table maze and into the final hole. <The camera now shows a close-up view of the final hole, as one of Fang's red balls rolls into it. Jeff is then shown again> First tribe to get all three balls through the maze and in the hole wins Reward. <Several castaways from both tribes can be seen nodding their heads> Jeff Probst: This morning in treemail you were both given a catalogue; <Jeff takes a short pause, as the camera turns to the Fang tribe> told to choose three items. <Another view of Jeff is then shown next> Here's what Kota is playing for: <Jeff now lifts the cover off of Kota's items> fishing gear; collection of oil and spices; <G.C. is shown smiling> boiling pot and potatoes. <A view of both tribes is shown, before Jeff removes the cover from Fang's items> Jeff Probst: Here's what Fang is playing for. They chose differently: <short pause> blankets, pillows, and mattress; <The camera shows Crystal looking towards Fang> the mattress will be waiting for you back at camp if you win; <Dan subtly nods his head> mosquito nets; peanut butter and bread… <The camera zooms in on two jars of peanut butter, and then turns to show Corinne and Paloma both clapping. The camera now zooms in on G.C., who catches the ball from Marcus> Jeff Probst: <narration> G.C. catches one for Kota! Kota first on the board! <The music now speeds up, as the camera shows Marcus tossing another yellow ball and Ace smacks it away> Jeff Probst: <narration> Lookin' to get three balls in this first stage. <Dan can be heard shouting "Come on, Randy!"> Then you move on to the maze! <A close-up view of Randy is shown, as he tosses another ball towards the first hole and Crystal misses it with her club> Jeff Probst: <narration> Randy finally gets something past Crystal! <Dan is then shown catching the red ball, as the camera continues to focus on him> Randy: Good catch, Dan. That was perfect! <Dan immediately tosses the ball at Fang's second hole, as Matty swings at it and misses> Jeff Probst: <narration> Dan quickly gets one past Matty! Don't look at anything but the ball. <G.C. then tosses the ball high, as Charlie jumps up to swing at it and misses. Sugar now catches the ball> Jeff Probst: <narration> Sugar with another good catch for Kota! <Sugar drops the ball into Kota's yellow basket, as indistinct shouting is heard. The camera then focuses in on Gillian and Ken, who are both standing in front of Fang's table maze> Gillian: <to Ken> You or I could've been in there catching. <A clip of Corinne missing a red ball is shown> You realize they're trying to get us out of the challenges… <Ken is then shown> Ken: <to Gillian> Who is? Ace? <The camera then zooms in on a thoughtful-looking Gillian> Gillian: <whispering> They see us as the two weakest. <The camera shows a quick view of Ace> And once I'm gone, you're next… <A disinterested Ken hesitates before responding> Ken: <to Gillian> I don't think it'll happen like that. <A defeated Gillian then shrugs> Jeff Probst: <narration> Ken and Gillian having a pow-wow! <Another close-up view of Gillian is shown next, as she begins to clap and cheer> Gillian: <shouting> Come on, Fang! <The camera then switches angles to show Marcus tossing another yellow ball past Ace, as G.C. catches it> Jeff Probst: <narration> G.C. has another for Kota! Crystal swings at one of them, while the other one goes through the hole and Dan catches it> Jeff Probst: <narration> No, no, no! <Dan is shown looking confused, as he shouts "What?!"> One ball at a time, guys! That ball is down! <Randy is then shown with a frustrated look on his face, as he tosses another red ball through the first hole and then purposely whips a ball a few feet away from Jeff. A front view of the seven victorious Kota members returning back to camp with their Reward items is then shown, before the camera zooms in on Matty> Matty: Good job, you guys! <G.C. can then be seen setting the fishing gear down> G.C. - CONFESSIONAL: This Reward Challenge was great for us, man. The Reward was sweet. You know, not only did we win the fishing gear, <A clip of Crystal sorting through the basket of spices is shown> but we got oil and spices to flavor up our rice, and we got a pot of potatoes, <Sugar and Jacquie can be seen slicing up potatoes> so <short pause> it definitely feels good. <A close-up view of Sugar is now shown next> Sugar: <singing> This is so exciting… <laughs> <The camera shows G.C. again> G.C. - CONFESSIONAL: <continued> We're movin' up. Kota is definitely, you know, movin' up and seein' some things start to change… <'The Gathering' begins to play, as the camera shows the bubbling pot of potatoes, before turning to both Crystal and Matty> Crystal: <to Matty> You need to eat… <laughs> <Matty can be seen nodding dramatically> Matty: <to Crystal> I know! Who would've ever thought we'd be so thankful for a potato, dude?! <The camera shows rapid clips of the joyous Kota members eating potatoes> Marcus: Mmm; that's good… <The camera turns to Crystal and Jacquie> Crystal: It is taking all my self-control to eat this slow… <laughs> <The camera shows a wide view of several festive Kota members, and then scrolls over to G.C., who can be seen straightening out the fishing net, and an eerie shift in the music occurs> G.C.: <talking aloud> I mean, this potatoes and spices is cool and everything, <Jacquie is heard calling "G.C.!"> but hopefully we can have some fish too… <The camera now cuts ahead to show a herd of warthogs roaming in the grassland, before fading out to show G.C. walking up to the lake and putting a worm onto his hook> G.C. - CONFESSIONAL: Now that we got this fishing gear, I really want to catch some fish, man. <G.C. is now shown casting his line out into the lake waters> You know, I grew up fishing as a kid and stuff, so <pause> hopefully I can make somethin' happen and, uh, show greater value to the tribe. <The camera shows a fish swimming towards the hook> G.C.: <talking aloud> Come on, fish… <A close-up view of G.C. is then shown again> G.C. - CONFESSIONAL: <continued> I'm hoping to get a little bit of extra energy; <G.C. can now be seen pulling the fish out of the water on his line> a little boost, you know, for the up-and-coming Immunity Challenge in a couple days, <The camera now shows G.C. returning back to camp with two fish> and I think Matty, you know, hopefully this'll kinda lift his spirits a little cause he's been kinda down… <Excited cheers can be heard from the Kota members, as the camera shows Matty high-fiving G.C.> Matty: <to G.C.> That's awesome, G! <Crystal, Sugar, Marcus, and Jacquie are then shown> Crystal: Cheers to the Kota tribe! <laughs> <The camera shows Bob nodding his head> Bob: To playing with our hearts and winning… <Jacquie is shown smiling, before the camera zooms out and Matty can be seen lifting the lid off of the pot of boiling fish> Matty: Wow! Guys, this is yummy! <laughs> <The camera then scrolls over to Matty, as he bites into a piece of fish and then closing his eyes> Matty - CONFESSIONAL: This morning, I was feeling down; I was missing my girlfriend. <The camera continues to show Matty> You know, there was a lot of ugliness coming out, but now, we have food and G.C. caught some fish. <G.C. can then be seen eating a piece of fish> I mean, that stuff fed my body and my spirit, you know? <Matty is now shown again> So my attitude around camp is gonna be completely turned around, and <short pause> I have G.C. to thank for that… <A close-up view of G.C. is then shown next> G.C.: Mmm mmm; that's the flavor of love right there! <laughs> <The screen then fades out> Exile - Day 9 <'Dissent' plays, as the camera shows an eagle flying through the sky and then fades into an overhead view of the area surrounding Exile. Randy can then be seen walking along a beaten path through the vast grassland, before the camera cuts ahead to show a front view of him> Randy - CONFESSIONAL: I am here on Exile, which is pretty much how I live my life in the real world anyway. You know, I live on a lake in Missouri, so <Randy now turns his head and looks around at his surroundings> big deal. <Randy then sets his canteen down> I think it was stupid of Kota to send me over someone like Corinne or Paloma who would probably take the Comfort, but <short pause> I mean, look at 'em. There's no way their collective IQs reach double digits… <A prominent drumbeat is heard, as the camera cuts ahead to show a clip of Randy striking the flint with the machete several times and a fire ignites> Randy - CONFESSIONAL: I love the game of Survivor; <short pause> I'd prefer it without all the twists, <Randy now adds kindling to the fire> and, um, if we were playing Borneo right now, it'd be shooting fish in a barrel, taking this thing to the end. <The camera then fades out to show Randy walking over to the wooden stand> The hidden Immunity Idol, for one, is getting a little tiresome. I don't want an idol; <short pause> an idol right now would just put a target on my back, <Randy is then shown unrolling the piece of parchment marked "Clue #1"> so my plan over the next two days is to find the idol and destroy it. <Randy can now be seen reading the clue aloud, as the camera focuses on him> Randy: Hidden Immunity Idol Clue #1: Though Exile may be Eden, no idol here awaits; Search back at the camp you came from For the object that you crave. <There is an eerie shift in the music, as the camera shows Randy tensing his expression> Randy: <talking aloud> Is this some kind of joke?! <laughs> <Randy then picks up the piece of parchment marked "Clue #2" and begins to read the message to himself> Randy - CONFESSIONAL: The idol being at camp means, quite simply, that I will be bored for two days. <A clip of Randy setting the clues back down on the wooden stand is shown> It makes no difference whether I sleep on a bed or a pile of crap; <Randy is then shown standing outside the wooden hut> you know, this comfort is nice, but <pause> it means nothing to me. You know, it's been said before: <short pause> surviving out here is a piece of cake. <The camera continues to show a thoughtful Randy> It's the people that, that'll be a little harder, but <pause> it can be done. <Randy is now shown taking a drink of water from his canteen> Randy: <talking aloud> This is Eden; I love it… <The camera continues to show Randy> Randy - CONFESSIONAL: <continued> At this point, I have no feelings of friendliness towards my tribe. Except for, uh, Kenny, the rest of 'em probably miss me about as much as I miss them: <short pause> not much… <A prominent drumbeat is heard, before the aerial camera shows a faraway view of Exile, and the screen abruptly fades out> Fang Tribe - Day 10 <'Dark Angel' plays, as the camera shows a fast-forwarded view of the sky, and day turns to night and then back to morning again. The aerial camera scrolls past the dense jungle and then focuses in on a grassy hill, before abruptly cutting ahead to show the Fang tribe's flag. A faraway view of the tribe's hut is shown, before the camera scrolls closer to it and several castaways can be seen lying awake> Corinne: <talking aloud> Why couldn't we have just won the challenge yesterday? <The camera shows Gillian turning her head> I mean, is that too much to ask?! <Corinne is shown> Corinne - CONFESSIONAL: At yesterday's Reward Challenge, Fang lost out again on blankets and pillows, so <long pause> I am getting no sleep. <Corinne is shown adjusting her position in the hut> Thank God Randy's on Exile; <short pause> Randy snores really loud, but I was, like, totally not expecting it to be freezing cold at night. <The camera continues to show Corinne> I've never even slept outside before Survivor, so <pause> I'm not used to roughing it. I don't know how much more of this I can stand… <The camera shows a clip of the Fang members' torches leaning up against their hut, as one of the torches topples over. The camera rapidly zooms around the challenge area, and then fades out to show Jeff standing on shore> Jeff Probst: <talking loudly> Come on in, guys! <The camera switches angles to show a side view of both tribes walking in to the challenge area. A front view of the seven Fang members is then shown, as the camera focuses in on Ken, Corinne, and Dan, before zooming out to show both tribes assembling onto their respective mats. Jeff is then shown again> Jeff Probst: We'll now bring in Randy, returning from Exile Island. <The Fang members can be seen turning their heads, before the camera switches angles to show a side view of Randy walking along the lake. Posts: 4262 (01/18/09 1:29 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	Spoiler [+] EPISODE 4 NOTES: Here are a few important notes about Episode 4 and (possibly) future episodes in the story. I encourage you all to read them so that you have a better understanding of what is going on. 1) Some of you (at Sucks, anyway) may have seen my post about this being my 100^th full episode. It is quite a milestone for me, and I know it's definitely not one of the greatest episodes I've ever written, but I hope that it lives up to expectations, as I would certainly say it is a million times better than the first episode I ever wrote. 2) I really like the recap in this episode because I feel that it gives a good summary of both tribes. I think it might have made it obvious that Matty was going because of the heavy focus on him at the start, but I hoped people would think that was too obvious that it had to be misdirection. I think it did a good job of showing Matty's place in the tribe as an outsider after Kelly's boot because of the other two alliances. And Bob stepping up as Kota's leader was credited with helping the tribe win challenges, which is probably important to note too (it comes up at Tribal Council as well). And I definitely had to recap Sugar's comment at Tribal Council because, once again, that comes up in this episode. Moving on to Fang, what we've been seeing these last two episodes is that the tribe that was once-unified is beginning to crumble. This is an important theme for Fang and it's especially tied to certain people - some that aren't even apparent yet. Me highlighting Gillian's "advice" to Corinne was also important because it came up in the episode. So I hope that you all read the recap and enjoyed it because this is one recap that I enjoyed. 3) The first Fang scene begins with some confessionals from Dan (don't worry, there's not much more of him this time) where he talks about Tribal Council and says that the tribe is in disarray but they can recover from it if they put Tribal Council behind them. Recall back to Episode 1 where Dan said that Fang should "leave Tribal Council at Tribal Council," well Corinne definitely did not do this, and it could have some significance. It all goes back to the unity theme on Fang that is mostly being propelled forward by Dan right now, but I won't spell everything out for you. This leads to a transition to Corinne, where she accepts the comments about her in front of the tribe and then vents about them in confessionals. This is VERY similar to what happened with Susie in the real show, and ironically, her rage is directed towards the other old(er) woman here, Gillian. Corinne also has a minor spat with Ken about him agreeing with Gillian. Corinne says she's done with her tribe, except for Ace, and she'll get revenge on them somehow. This is probably the first hint of revenge as a theme for the season and it will definitely manifest itself in other forms pretty soon. 4) The Kota Day 9 scene begins with Crystal looking for the hidden Immunity Idol, just so that people didn't forget about her knowing it's at camp. I almost got rid of this since there's so much of Crystal anyway. But this was to show Crystal's recognition of her place in the tribe. Remember that in the last episode, Bob said that Crystal would be next because she's intimidating and she's a big threat. That's why Crystal needs the idol. After that, we move on to a scene about lack of food, which is really about Matty whining and complaining. He says that the tribe is starving, and it doesn't make sense for him to get the same amount of food as Sugar and Jacquie because the tribe needs him to stay strong. This was a bit of a mental breakdown for him, as he went into "Anxiety-Land" as he calls it (or MattyLand as Jacquie says). Matty was becoming depressed; he was not doing anything except whining and annoying people, and it was definitely starting to show around camp. It was important to give Marcus and Jacquie confessionals about Matty because they were the ones in the alliance who pushed to boot Matty over Crystal. Jacquie was annoyed by him saying that he should get more food because Jacquie has been working and Matty hasn't, and Marcus calls him a "pain in the ass" and a "drain." So hopefully this explains why the target begins to shift from Crystal to Matty. Again, Matty probably looked like an obvious boot at this point in the episode, so I was hoping that it would make people think he was the decoy boot, trying to hide a surprise exit for Sugar. 5) Now we have a treemail scene that I decided to intersperse between Fang and Kota. Paloma and Charlie retrieve and read the treemail (very cutely, I might add), and Charlie gets a confessional about the Catalogue. Then I transition to Kota where the tribe works fairly well to come up with the items that they're going to pick. GC gets a confessional explaining that, and Matty is the sole dissenter at first, but he eventually agrees on potatoes too. Now we return to Fang where Charlie basically narrates the rest of the scene. Note that this scene is very shortened down AND very skewed in the way it's edited, as I will explain. It's presented to show the Fang tribe in disarray again with people disagreeing about which items to pick. Corinne suggests Blankets and Mosquito Nets and Ace automatically tells Charlie to write this down. Okay. This did NOT happen - in reality, there was obviously a vote in between where people agreed to those items, but I'm clearly trying to tell a story here. Ace really did tell Charlie to put it down though, so it still suggests Ace as trying to take control and validates Charlie's confessionals. 6) I've mentioned before that challenges are the one thing that I don't always have planned completely in advance and that are flexible because I sometimes I like to adapt a challenge that appears in the real season. This is one of those times where I took the idea from the "fruit throwing" challenge. I wanted to have a challenge with the mazes and I was trying to come up with a way for the tribes to collect three balls throughout a challenge and this was the perfect way for me to do it, I think. For those who actually read the challenges, there are two moments that I hope stood out to you: first, the conversation where Gillian tells Ken that the tribe (really meaning Ace) is trying to cut them out of the challenges because they're seen as the weakest. Paloma is also included in this weak group too, although she sat out. Gillian had a point here but the fact that Ken wasn't willing to listen shows two things: 1) He's been wanting to get rid of Gillian for a long time; 2) He might be in a safer position than the episodes have shown, meaning that there could be other alliances we don't know about). The other highlight, I hope, was when Randy got frustrated with Jeff and purposely whipped a ball at him (intentionally missing, of course). I've been getting increasingly annoyed with Jeff throughout the seasons and I think he needs this because he's becoming really annoying to me. I wish Randy had actually hit him with the ball! 7) So Kota wins another challenge, which shouldn't have come as a huge surprise considering Fang's disunity and the fact that "things are getting better for Kota." This is why I really wish I had made Kota win Immunity because this is the overarching theme, but in a real situation, sometimes there'd be that one win that doesn't fit into a theme or something. Hopefully it kept it a bit surprising as well, since a lot of people were predicting Fang to lose Immunity again. Anyway, so Kota had to send someone else to Exile. As I mentioned in some of my responses, Gillian already proved that she wouldn't take the Comfort and Kota definitely wants someone who will do this so Fang will be penalized. They chose Randy this time (notice that only old members have gone so far), which was not the best choice, but it was important for other story reasons for Randy to go to Exile early on, so I had to do this. It will all become later but his scene is important for a few reasons. I'll get to this in a later note… 8) The next Kota scene is their victory scene and I actually like this scene for some reason. The tribe is happy about winning another challenge, celebrating with their potatoes and spices, and then we see GC off to the side of the screen 'playing' with the fishing gear (ie. getting it ready to use). So he narrates a lot of this scene and talks about fishing as a kid, etc. and ends up catching a few fish. Matty is especially happy to have some food and gets a confessional saying how his spirits are back up, his attitude is going to completely change and he's back in the game. Little does he know he will be voted out in two days, after having an even quicker turn-around than Shawna in Amazon. 9) The next scene is Exile, and this is an okay scene. Not the best, but it serves its ultimate purpose well of setting up some future things and we do learn some things about Randy here. I wasn't sure if I wanted to allow a reference to a previous season (Borneo), but I think it was important because Randy is someone who doesn't like all of the twists in the game (a purist, if you will). Most of you will probably recall my own frustrations with the hidden Immunity Idol last season, so this was too perfect because Randy, in my version, wants to find the idol for the sole purpose of burning it and removing that aspect from the game. Sound similar to the real show when Marcus/Randy threw away the idol? Yes, it does, but I guarantee this was my idea months before that episode, as one of my readers can verify since I shared it with him in advance. Anyway, it was put into this episode for a reason. Finally, on Exile, Randy gives another Richard Hatch-like quote in saying that surviving the elements is a piece of cake and the people will be more difficult. He says that except for Kenny (remember they have an alliance, as per last week's recap) everyone in the tribe probably doesn't miss him. Going by the 5-way Powerhouse Alliance, Randy/Ken are outsiders on Fang, and then Gillian is the "outsider among the outsiders" - definitely next in the pecking order. 10) Then we get to the second Fang scene, which was also cut down quite a bit. It starts with Corinne complaining about losing out on blankets again (she had a similar scene in Episode 1 where she complained about sleeping arrangements), and she says she's never even slept outside, blah, blah, blah. This is just a minor point in the scene though. The rest of it is more relevant at the moment. We see Paloma/Dan/Charlie venting their frustrations about Ace and Corinne, and Dan has a confessional saying he's regretting making the alliance with them. Charlie says there are other votes in the tribe that they can use, but there's a concern that Ken and Randy will join up with Ace and Corinne (since they're all negative characters). So Charlie goes to Gillian since he knows that she's isolated and he gets her support… 11) A few things to note though: Dan says he's willing to turn on Ace and Corinne because they would do it to him in a heartbeat. He also says he's learning more about the game from Charlie, whereas in the past, we'd seen Dan as the main figurehead for the alliance. So it Charlie more of the subtle leader or the one who's calling the shots? Who knows? But perhaps the most important thing comes next. Charlie tells Gillian his entire alliance (not keeping it a secret anymore) and he admits to voting against Gillian, BUT he does a great thing in attributing that whole idea to Ace instead of Dan. It makes him look honest to Gillian and like he felt bad for writing her name down, while blaming everything on Ace at the same time so his alliance looks good. And he's probably going to get away with it because I doubt Gillian ever confronts Ace. So what is going on now is that Charlie/Dan/Paloma are considering that they'll have to get rid of Ace or Corinne, and Ace/Corinne are probably considering the same thing although they're not being shown that much. Charlie needs to at least get Gillian's vote that way he guarantees at least a tie no matter what, and he easily secures this by getting Gillian with C/D/P. I believe tropical rain predicted this scenario last week, so great job on that! I hope that you guys are enjoying the Fang dynamics, and even that it made some of you think Fang would lose. 12) The next scene is another treemail scene and I wanted to cut it out to leave some other parts of the episode in it, but it would have gone too abruptly to the Immunity Challenge and I think we needed to hear something from Matty in there. I really don't have much to say about this scene. Part of the treemail came from Pearl Islands and part of it I came up with. Um, the comment by GC about boats comes into play during the challenge, I guess that's it. 13) Alright, so this is an Immunity Challenge (the first one this season) that I took directly without changing it at all. It comes from Episode 8 or 9 of real China and it was a challenge that I had completely forgotten about until recently, so I don't know if many of you will remember it. I don't have that much to say about this challenge either, except that I liked the moment when GC's boat tipped over and he fell into the water. Again, there are no hidden meanings to it. I just thought it would be a funny moment in the middle of a somewhat boring challenge. And hopefully Crystal holding the Immunity Idol over Jeff's head was funny too. Oh, one thing I want to mention about was Gillian sitting out of the challenge. This was something that was talked about in the scene with Charlie, and he made her feel better about sitting out because he promised she would be safe at Tribal Council and then she would get to be in the next challenge. He said that he knew she wasn't weak but that was how she was perceived in the tribe and that there would be a challenge that would come that was right for her. Basically that he knew she could do it, etc. So she felt okay about sitting out. As I mentioned in my notes, perhaps, Fang should have lost this challenge to keep with the grander themes, but I think it's okay. 14) The confessional from Ace is important to showing that he WOULD have broken the alliance at this point, but he's also so cocky and arrogant that he can just shrug it off, thinking that he can get them at any time and they won't be able to touch him. I've said about Ace going a bit quiet, and I think you saw that these last two episodes, but he will be back again next week. 15) This strategy scene is one that I like, although like the episode, it's definitely not one of the greatest ever or anything. It starts with a kindof narrative confessional from G.C., and he has another line about the boat. Just a side note, I'm glad that a lot of you have been making comments about him being more likable in my story because I could have easily gone the same direction as the real show and done a character assassination on him. So hopefully you continue to enjoy the different characters, just as people like Gillian, Paloma, Dan, etc. (apparently all of the real show's early boots) are different or will be different from their real show portrayal. Back on track, we see the "Upper Hand" discussing their boot options and Marcus says Crystal or Matty. Notice how Sugar says she'll go with Marcus no matter what - she's definitely trying to suck up to him at this point. Marcus goes into his analysis of why Crystal should stay over Matty and then he talks about Matty breaking down and not being in the game for the long haul. Jacquie and Sugar both want Matty to go as well, mostly for annoyance reasons and because Sugar wants to agree with Marcus no matter what so that he will trust her again. Bob, however, still insists on Crystal going - remember he had that confessional about her from Episode 3. Jacquie gets a record 2^nd confessional in an episode, although it's basically just summarizing what's already been said. I needed it to carry the scene forward, as she says Matty's going home and then in the very next scene she tells Matty Crystal is going. This is a girl who is definitely playing the game, despite her low visibility. Think back to Episode 2 where there was a similar scene where Marcus told Matty he was safe and Susie was going. This is exactly what's happening, except this time they're lying to him and telling him that Crystal's going. Crystal, of course, is under the assumption that Matty's going, so she approaches him in the next scene to get Matty to join with her and G.C. so that they can convince Marcus to vote out Sugar. Matty tells Crystal that he was just told she was going, and Crystal tries to use intimidation again by saying that Matty's letting the "Upper Hand" dictate his vote. Even though he denies it, this is true. Matty comes across as very dumb in this scene, I think, but he agrees to the idea, realizing that he would probably go next after Crystal anyway. Someone, I think KittyPryde1, mentioned about the confessional from Matty where he said he didn't want Crystal as his enemy meaning that he would end up joining forces with her at some point. Great catch on that! It was supposed to lead up to this alliance that they formed here. 16) The next part of the scene involves the three trying to get Marcus to vote out Sugar. I think their reasons were valid and I do think that Marcus legitimately considered doing it too. I guess Marcus gets another CP for 'considering his options.' I hope everything made sense in terms of why they would target Sugar. I think it's been apparent that I've been constantly going back to that answer from Sugar so it had to come into play somehow. The scene winds down with confessionals from G.C. and Matty. I probably could have cut out G.C.s' confessional since it was pretty obvious that Marcus could have gone either way, but I think this helped it flow a little bit. And then Matty says that it could be him, Sugar, or Crystal gone. One thing that I've found interesting about this season is that there's been three possible boot targets for most Tribal Councils, as opposed to two, and I kindof like having that third option in there. It won't always happen but it does continue to happen quite frequently. 17) So now I will talk about the Tribal Council: this is probably the weakest Tribal Council of all four episodes, although I don't think it's a bad/boring one by any means. MasterDarkNinja and/or Mr X has been saying about potential leadership issues between Bob and Marcus and this is something that we see a little bit at Tribal Council, although Marcus doesn't admit to it. But it's interesting that, this time, Marcus got his way over Bob. There definitely is something there though that's slowly starting to come to the surface. The next questions are about the food situation - nothing too exciting there. Matty then toots his own horn about how strong he is in the challenges, which prompts Bob to speak out that Kota still lost even though Matty is supposedly so great. Bob then responds by saying he doesn't know if Matty would throw in the towel the next time he was feeling down (that's why Bob said "the quitting is a strong point" during the strategy scene, and this is what convinced Bob to agree to Matty). Matty then says he was only down for one bad morning and he was right back in the game after the Reward. It still makes him come across as unstable though. Matty then says they have to keep the strong people (that's been one of his only lines the whole season) and he says Sugar is the weakest by far. Sugar says she feels vulnerable but acts like she doesn't really care, which sparks a negative comment from Jeff about her laughing and smiling about the possibility of being voted off. This actually works to her advantage because Marcus realizes that she is so unthreatening to him compared to Matty, so why would be get rid of someone who poses no threat to him at all? Marcus gets two more TCQs where he considers his options again, and it's obvious that he's going to be the swing vote. So it's a 4-3 vote and Matty, the obvious choice, ends up going home over the potential surprise boot, Sugar. Our first man is now out of the game after losing 3 women in a row. So Matty leaves, and that is my gift to SFC, KittyPryde1, and all the other people who did not like Matty. 18) MATTY AS THE FOURTH BOOT: I'll talk a little bit about Matty now. I know I said before that after the Gabon cast reveal, Matty was my least favorite by far. I was extremely annoyed by him and I could barely sit through his videos without cringing. I was even more annoyed when Jeff was talking about how endearing he was and how people were going to love him. For this reason, I knew that he was going to get a great edit in the show and that he was going to be around for a long time. For the people like me who didn't like him, I didn't want to condemn them to two seasons of having to endure this self-described "foolosopher" (?) so his place as an early boot in my story was easily confirmed. Michelle and Matty are the only two placements that were influenced by my personal feelings for them. This rarely ever happens, and I'll be totally honest when it does, although I have no negative feelings towards Matty anyway now than the real show is over. So Matty was made out to be clueless about the game, which he really was as he had NEVER seen the show. He was whiny and complaining, which he did on the show as well - they just gave him a better edit, and I would argue that my character is actually more true to who the "real Matty" is, without the positive good person's edit. I hope that most of you are happy to see him go, and I apologize to anyone out there who was a Matty fan (such as s17 gabon). 19) EPISODE 5: Episode 5 is the long-awaited episode where Paloma will finally come into the spotlight and make a huge appearance. It will be a GREAT episode from her and I'm so excited for it to be finished. Ace will also be back (almost) in full force after a brief hiatus. There's not much that I can actually reveal about his episode since there is a tribe swap and that's going to drastically change things up. I'll just say that the new tribal breakdowns are really interesting and the tribes will once again have two very different dynamics. It was definitely time for a shake up and I think this will make the game even interesting. I'm predicting one of the higher-rated episodes of the season, so I hope you all enjoy it! :) 20) Finally, I really hope that you all enjoyed the episode, and I would once again like to offer my sincere thanks to you for reading it. I'm amazed to still have so many people reading into the eighth season (wow!). Please be as detailed as you can, wherever possible. I really liked this one, it's one of the best of the season so far, I feel. I liked the Kota scenes, with all the strategy taking place. I realized that they would probably go to Tribal Council again after they got so much focus first in the "Last time" segment, but then I wasn't so sure for the rest of the episode. Fang remains my favorite tribe, though, I think they have more of the interesting personalities in the game, about all of them are characters. Not surprised to see the cracks of the big alliance on Fang emerging, there's no way that that was an alliance that was going to last a long time. The boot was up in the air, I feel, not obvious, even if I leaned towards Matty going a little bit. Oh, and congrats on the 100th episode! (B) What was your overall favorite part of the episode? Please be as detailed as you can, wherever possible. Congrats on 100 episodes, GF. That's quite a feat, and I really hope you keep going as long as you can, because you're fantastically talented. I'm not sure I understand why Corinne went from pissed off at Gillian and Ken to being pissed off at everyone except Ace. It seems like there's more to the story that we're not quite being shown there yet and it came a little bit as a surprise to hear she suddenly wants revenge on the entire tribe. I'm starting to really enjoy Kota, since the dynamic seems to be that whatever tribe is winning is the tribe that gets along better. (As it should be.) I wanted to see Kota win reward since I found them to be more intelligent about their choices from the catalogue. I love Randy's idol plan. I love that he understands that an idol can be as much of a hindrance as it can be a help and doesn't want anyone to have it. I don't see it as a stupid move right now, though it could come back to haunt him later. I would love to see him actually find it and destroy it. The fallout from that could be potentially disastrous. I thought there was a lot of airtime balance between the two tribes. I felt as though we got a lot of camp life (and bitching) at Kota and quite a bit of strategic discussion (and bitching) from Fang. I didn't necessarily think that either tribe was going to Tribal until the IC was over, so it was suspenseful in a good way. I thought it was interesting that basically the only view we get of Ace in the entire episode is to hear him say he's ready to backstab his alliance. However, what was most interesting about that is that we actually SEE Charlie and Dan making the steps to backstab Ace and Corinne. I would like to think this means that Charlie and Dan are successful in tossing off Ace and Corinne, because I generally find them much more likable. I'm glad to see the "and Marcus" thing did come back and have prominence. (B) What was your overall favorite part of the episode? I loved watching the two tribes pick things out of the catalog. I love challenges like that on the real show, because it can show you who's really intelligent about their choices and who isn't thinking long-term. (C) What would you rate this episode out of 10? Corinne (C) Do you have any other predictions for Episode 5? This is mostly a shot in the dark, since predicting a boot when you know a switch is coming is always hard for me. I think the reward challenge has the potential to be very interesting if the tribes switch before the reward, because then the winning tribe is likely to know just who on the losing tribe is most likely to take comfort. 3. POPULARITY POLL (A) Please rate each castaway's popularity from 1-10. 1 is the lowest score, while 10 is the highest. Please try to base your ratings only on the likability of the characters in my story, not how they appeared on the real show. Ace - 3 Bob - 6 Charlie - 10 Corinne - 2 Crystal - 8 Dan - 8 G.C. - 8 Gillian - 7 (She wasn't very visible this ep, but I have to say, I'm loving her more and more.) Jacquie - 5 Kelly - 1 Ken - 4 Marcus - 6 Matty - 2 Michelle - 1 Paloma - 5 Randy - 6 Sugar - 4 Susie - 3 Ace - UTRN2 - SPVN from Charlie, and has displayed his willingness to backstab his alliance - but, it seems as though he's being edited to be the villain. I think MOR is too overstated for the very small screentime he got this episode. Bob - MOR2 - I see him really MOR, even though he's the leader, because I think Probst was right to call Marcus out as the leader. I think Bob leads in name only. Anyway, he's likeable but he's not really taking the initiative to make moves right now. Charlie - CP4 - Potentially CPP4. Lots of visibility, lots of strategic discussion. Comes off as very intelligent in bringing Gillian in. I think Gillian is becoming so likable that someone else bringing her in and wanting to work with her makes that person seem positive as well. Corinne - OTTN3 - I don't think I can call her gameplay "complex" but she's definitely the most negative person this episode. She's just making empty threats about revenge for the moment ... we'll see where it goes. Crystal - CP4 - I still get a very volatile vibe (yay aliteration) from Crystal. She could literally swing between N and P at the drop of a hat. She's very exiting to watch (read?) and she's definitely making moves and aware of her position in her tribe. Dan - MOR3 - Said himself in the game that he's learning from Charlie. He seems to be taking a strategic backseat to Charlie right now. G.C. - CP4 - I'm liking GC more and more. MUCH more than on the real show. I think he's displaying himself to be an intelligent thinker and if a switch goes well for him he could go very far. Gillian - MORP2 - Lots of positivity. Even when she has almost no screentime, she is becoming likable. I expect her to (hopefully) become a more integral part of the game. Jacquie - MOR2 - I don't think she was that visible, and I don't think she really had a hand in the decision to vote out Matty. I'm kind of on the fence about her - I may reanalyze her ranking after I've read a third time. Ken - UTR1 - Almost an INV, not a whole lot going on here. Marcus - CP4 - The swing vote of the episode? We got to see a lot of his thought process behind the strategizing. He's getting a fair edit but I just don't think he's quite likable enough yet to win. Matty - OTTN5 - I imagined he was going to have an episode like this for a while. Can't say I'm surprised. The Ns are dropping early and often. Paloma - UTR1? - Because I don't want to give her another INV? I can't wait for her to become more visible. Randy - CP3 - I think his idol plan is intelligent. His confessionals on Exile show that he knows the game and knows that the HII can be a very bad thing. I think that automatically qualifies him for CP. (For once, not N, though he had his slight bitchy moments too.) Sugar - MOR2 - I would say UTR but she was a target which automatically qualifies her as an MOR, IMO. 1) Based on Edgic, which Survivor(s) do you think have the best chance of winning? 1. Charlie - starting to emerge as a great strategist, likable, good edit, etc. 2. Randy - I hope I'm not reading into his Exile trip too much (which I probably am) but I think there's a lot coming from Randy and a lot of these beginning episodes are hiding him - for reasons yet to be determined. 3. Dan - he's a fall guy, I think ... too big of a threat to win, but should make late game. 4. GC - I'm liking him more and more. I think he's turning into a good strategist with bad positioning. He and Crystal have that slight underdog feel right now. Better positioning could make him even more of a contender. 2) Based on Edgic, which Survivor(s) do you think are not eligible to be the winner, and are therefore "eliminated?" Corinne - too OTTN, too inconsistent of an edit Paloma - we haven't been shown enough of her yet Jacquie - ditto re: Paloma ... and she seems unlikely to make a move like Paloma seems poised to make in the next episode Sugar - the America's Sweetheart routine isn't going to work here, if it starts now, it'll be annoying Ken - inconsistent edit

Thanks so much for your comments, and for being the first person to comment on the new episode. That was another great post from you, and I enjoyed reading it! I really liked this one, it's one of the best of the season so far, I feel. I liked the Kota scenes, with all the strategy taking place. I realized that they would probably go to Tribal Council again after they got so much focus first in the "Last time" segment, but then I wasn't so sure for the rest of the episode. Fang remains my favorite tribe, though, I think they have more of the interesting personalities in the game, about all of them are characters. Not surprised to see the cracks of the big alliance on Fang emerging, there's no way that that was an alliance that was going to last a long time. The boot was up in the air, I feel, not obvious, even if I leaned towards Matty going a little bit. Thanks - nice to hear that it is one of the best so far, even though there are only four. :) There is still better to come though. Glad you liked Kota's scenes though. I agree about the early focus on Kota in the recap tipping people off, but I hoped that the actual episode would make it less clear, so it's good to know that this worked a bit with you. Fang is still my favorite tribe, as well, which is probably why more of their characters have stuck around to make it to the switch. Nice to hear that Matty's boot wasn't that obvious either. Oh, and congrats on the 100th episode! Thank you! :) The alliance breaking up on Fang. Comments & Polls Thank you very much for reading Episode 4 of SURVIVOR: GABON. Please spend a few minutes to leave some comments and/or predictions for the rest of the story. I certainly do not expect everyone to fill out this survey. If you don't have time to or don't want to, then please feel free to leave any comments you like (even if it's just one or two lines), or just let me know that you read the episode. Anything will help and will be greatly appreciated! COMMENTS & QUESTIONS (A) What did you think of this episode? Please be as detailed as you can, wherever possible. Well this episode seemed a bit predictable until the Immunity Challenge. We knew of the Charlie/Dan/Paloma v. Ace/Corinne conflict, and I believed that the actual "brawl" would take place in this episode. Once Fang won immunity (which I did NOT see coming), though, that storyline was put on hold until the next episode. I liked the two opposing alliances at Kota, and although I am more of a Crystal/G.C. supporter I was happy with Matty leaving...and thank the lord that the switch is next to that Crystal/G.C. won't stick out anymore. (B) What was your overall favorite part of the episode? Gillian being recruited into the Powerhouse alliance, and the scrambling at Kota. (C) What would you rate this episode out of 10? (1 being the lowest; 10 being the highest) I say a 7.7 because it wasn't the most exciting episode of the season, being predictable until the IC, yet it was still a great plotline. It was a perfect "set-up" episode, getting all the major stories and themes and conflicts and all that set up to happen next time, probably in Episode 5. The reason it's still a high number (or above a 5 anyways) is because it was still an enjoyable read, and I was happy with the results. (D) Do you have any questions about this episode that you'd like to see cleared up in a future episode or at the Reunion Show? I did while reading it and forgot it. I re-read and I don't remember. So no. If it comes back I'll just ask. :) 1. SOLE SURVIVOR POLL (A) Which castaway will be the Sole Survivor? I stick with my prediction of Charlie, but I'm ditching Jacquie as choice #2, and I'll explain why in the edgic. 2. WHAT'S NEXT POLL (A) Which castaway will be voted off in Episode 5? This is a hard one, because since we know there is a tribal swap, we don't know the tribes and therefore can't predict the dynamics of the new tribes. I'm going to go with Ken, however, because if he is separated from Randy then I think the tribe will look at him for an easy out for his weakness. I would say the same for Gillian, but now that she's with Charlie (and therefore Dan and Paloma) I think she will end up with at least one of her alliance members on her tribe, and they will rally to keep her. (B) Which castaway will be sent to Exile? Well I would think there would be no exile considering it's a tribal swap episode, but if there is an exile I'm gonna say Ace. (C) Do you have any other predictions for Episode 5? I'm excited for this Paloma debut, because I really like Paloma (and I did on the real show). My predictions are, well, the only ones I can think of are listed in question A above. 3. Nothing huge happen, but I have the feeling it was setting the scene for a bunch of great things. It was nice to see a bit of Paloma's cuteness. Gillian is annoying to me...I really don't like needy people and she desperately is seeking approval. Charlie was cool again, I liked Randy as well. Corinne is coming off a bit cartoonishly OTTN now, but I still like her. I also liked Marcus (no idea why), Crystal (so hardcore), GC (so endearing), and Sugar was OTTC (over the top cute) this episode. Bob was also kinda annoying when he talked about how his tribe started winning after he was leader and how he wanted Crystal gone. Jacquie is pretty bland, but in a funny way. I love UTR Blonde Glam Goddesses <3. Dan is so positive and hopeful that I get annoyed by him, it comes off fake. Ace is also annoying...he wants to backstab his alliance why? <3

Thanks for mentioning this. I know you don't read the notes anyway, but I realize I had skipped over this (I wrote most of the notes a while ago). After Tribal Council, Fang basically had a "therapy session" and other people agreed that Corinne needed to stop complaining and be less mean with people. Randy made comments about her being just like Michelle again, and Corinne got upset with other people although she didn't fully show it in front of the tribe. This is why Dan said "You love us Corinne" because he was referring to more or less the whole tribe. Also, I moved this confessional from the Catalogue scene where certain people were opposing her for the decisions, so it was a combination of the Tribal Council, the discussion afterwards, AND the Catalogue decision that caused her to want revenge on the entire tribe. But it still is mostly Gillian and Ken though. I love Randy's idol plan. I love that he understands that an idol can be as much of a hindrance as it can be a help and doesn't want anyone to have it. I'm not going to say what happens obviously, but I guarantee there is a reason for this being included now. I know some people gave him MORNs in the first two episodes. I think you did. But it's interesting that all of the boots have had an OTTN/M boot episode so far. Paloma - UTR1? - Because I don't want to give her another INV? I can't wait for her to become more visible. UTR1 seems right to me. She was around. Thanks for your Contenders / Eliminated lists too. Great thoughts there on both of them! 2. Randy - I hope I'm not reading into his Exile trip too much (which I probably am) but I think there's a lot coming from Randy and a lot of these beginning episodes are hiding him - for reasons yet to be determined. Whether it is because he wins or not, his scene definitely gave him a lot of personal insight, which has to be important in some way. 4. GC - I'm liking him more and more. I think he's turning into a good strategist with bad positioning. He and Crystal have that slight underdog feel right now. Better positioning could make him even more of a contender. I agree that he does seem to be a bit of an underdog right now, as does Crystal. Thanks again for your comments. I'm actually surprised that you said it was a weaker episode since I thoroughly enjoyed it and actually think it was better than ep 1 and 2, which says something. I love the dynamics of Fang and find myself liking the division that is being created between Dan/Charlie/Paloma and Corinne/Ace. Kota is also great (though I think I like Fang better, entertainment wise) and I was rooting for Crystal to make a turnaround. I would also like to point out that I saw a Fang victory in the IC because of the brief scene between Crystal/GC saying that they needed to blindside Sugar ... IMO, it wouldn't have been included if they won. (B) What was your overall favorite part of the episode? Charlie pulling in Gillian and betraying Corinne/Ace. The strategy scene was awesome and felt very "real". (C) What would you rate this episode out of 10?
