The camera then cuts ahead to show the defeated Kota members returning back to camp> G.C.: Bad news, Kota! <The camera cuts ahead to show Jacquie, Marcus, and Sugar> Jacquie: We gave everything we had and more… <Sugar can be heard repeating "And more," as the camera zooms out to show a wide view of all eight Kota members> Jacquie: I can't believe another one of us is going home! <A teary-eyed Sugar is shown> Sugar: <to Jacquie> I know; <short pause> I don't want to have to, like, hurt anyone on our tribe. <A clip of several Kota members talking in a group is now shown> I just want to be positive… <laughs> <Another close-up view of Sugar is now shown> Sugar - CONFESSIONAL: Emotions are running so high for people in our tribe right now. <laughs> We have to go back to Tribal Council and everyone's very sad. An aerial view of the Tribal Council village is then shown, as the camera scrolls closer to it, and then fades out to show the eight Kota members walking into the main Tribal Council area. Jeff is now shown, before the camera switches angles to show the castaways setting their torches down. G.C. can be seen sitting down on his stump, as the camera zooms in on him and then goes back to Jeff> Jeff Probst: After having done this once, I know you guys don't want to be back. <Crystal is shown, as she subtly nods her head> Again, you have to vote somebody out tonight. It's a big vote… <The camera shows Sugar with a sad look on her face, and then returns to Jeff> Jeff Probst: Let's start with camp life: <short pause> Bob, <long pause> what are the camp issues right now? <A close-up view of Bob is then shown> Bob: The camp issues are getting better, I would say. We still have that burning fire, <A close-up view of the central fire flickering is shown, before the camera fades out to show Matty> you know, that burning passion inside all of us to come back and give it our all and to stick it to Fang. <A rapid clip of a smiling Jacquie is shown> So let them think we're a weaker tribe cause we're comin' up real fast. And I'm sayin' this right now: <short pause> I'm 'a say it to you; I'm 'a tell everybody here: we ain't gonn' be losin' no more! <The camera shows all eight Kota members, and then scrolls back over to Jeff> Jeff Probst: Marcus, <long pause> what impact does an obviously impassioned speech like that have on a tribe that is losing? <A quick clip of G.C. is shown, as he gazes into the distance> Does it help to light a fire under you? <Marcus is then shown again> Marcus: It absolutely does, and I think Crystal is great at getting people fired up. <The camera focuses back in on Crystal for a few seconds> I mean, this is probably a wake-up call that we needed, <A wide view of several Kota members is now shown> and um, <short pause> I feel like I could run through a brick wall right now, if you wanna know the truth; <laughs> I honestly do… <Crystal is shown again, before the camera goes back to Jeff> Jeff Probst: Matty, it's one thing to say "We're gonna start winning challenges." <A close-up view of Bob is shown> It's another thing entirely to do it. <Matty can be seen nodding his head, as he says "I know"> How important is it right now to keep this tribe strong? <Matty is shown> Matty: Keeping this tribe strong right now is huge. <A conflicted G.C. is then shown nodding his head> It's the most important thing, but <pause> I guess the one thing I can say, like, over and above my strength and my physicality is that I voted for Sue last time even when I knew Kelly was probably going. <Crystal is shown with a stern look on her face> I didn't vote with the tribe, but at least I showed that I have loyalty and truth, you know, <A close-up view of Marcus is shown next> and if you guys want me to be in your alliance, um, you would definitely know you have my honesty in a game of lies… <The camera returns to Matty> Jeff Probst: So obviously, Matty, you must feel like you're fighting for your life tonight… <Matty is shown again, as he can be seen nodding his head> Matty: Yes, Jeff; <short pause> I'm in deep trouble. <laughs> Uh, I could possibly go home tonight… <The camera now zooms out to show a view of the entire main Tribal Council area> Jeff Probst: How about you, Susie? This is a game, and <pause> the numbers are probably against me, but I think they're gonna have to think twice before they write my name down because I could have the hidden Immunity Idol, <Crystal is now shown nodding dramatically> and even the thought of that does give me some power. <The camera turns back to Marcus> You know, and do they really want to take that chance? <Susie now shrugs> That's gonna be something they have to think about… <There is an extended silence, as the camera scrolls across several uncertain Kota members, and then focuses in on Sugar, who is now crying> Jeff Probst: Sugar, <long pause> what about this is so difficult for you? <Another close-up view of a teary-eyed Sugar is now shown, as she wipes her eyes> Sugar: I just hate hurting people. I feel so bad. <The camera shows Susie with a sympathetic look on her face> You know, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and we're all in this together, <Both Bob and Matty are then shown next> and to have to take it away from people and take away their chance of winning a million dollars is, I don't know; <short pause> it's just not what I like to do… <Crystal can be seen shifting her expression, before the camera switches angles to show Jeff again> Jeff Probst: <to Sugar> Is it harder to see a second tribe member go? <Sugar is shown again> Sugar: Yeah; it is. He picks up the pen, as the camera fades out to show Matty staring ahead nervously and then scrolls over to Susie. Posts: 4138 (01/02/09 12:58 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	EPISODE 2 NOTES: Here are a few important notes about Episode 2 and (possibly) future episodes in the story. I encourage you all to read them so that you have a better understanding of what is going on. 1) I'll start with the recap. I didn't want to go overboard on this, so I tried to keep it as short as possible, but you'll notice that things that came up in the episode were the main things to be highlighted. For example, the "rivalry" between Dan and Ace came into play when Dan said he could get Ace to trust him to be in their alliance. I also wanted to include Ace's fire lie / Charlie's confessional, but had to cut that out. The other thing that came into play was me re-emphasizing that Susie slowed the tribe down in the hike and her line about the wild animals. The rest of it was basically stuff that had to be in there for the vote and to set up the alliances… 2) I put a short scene in before the Opening Credits like the real show does, but I'm not sure if I'm going to continue to do this. I intended to do it every week, but I'm not sure that I like having it in there. It seems likely to be lost if it's just sandwiched between the recap and the theme song. But this particular scene was pretty important since I wanted to explain why Matty voted out Susie, not Crystal. 3) So that scene was really split off from the larger Kota Night 3 scene, which comes next. I liked Crystal's comment about the flint being more useful than Kelly, so it was a good trade. Bob quickly started Kota's fire and after getting some positive SPV from Susie, she says that it should help to keep animals away from their camp. Even so, she is still scared when she hears any noises, which Matty tells us about. This comes up a few times in the episode (most notably at Tribal Council), and then G.C. has another confessional saying that he wouldn't want to be outdoors with these people again and that the tribe needs to be able to sleep. This scene also ties into something in Episode 3, but I'll leave that for next week. 4) Now we go over to Fang, where the tribe is presented a bit in a "Love Tribe" kind of way, with Dan and Gillian talking about how everyone is so unique, and Dan continues his positive trend by talking about how great it feels to win the first Immunity. Dan now does something he was unable to do last week by starting the fire (this time he had flint though), and he credits it as "team work." Ace has a confessional talking about tribe unity, but then he also provides a segue into some strategizing. The first people we see making an alliance on Fang are Charlie and Dan. I know what you are thinking. Is this going to be Charcus v. 2.0? Or perhaps Brooke and Eliza v. 2.0, since they're both lawyers. Well, you will have to wait and see. But they decide to align together - Charlie says Dan is very popular so he wanted to get to Dan first - and then they discuss who else to bring in. Charlie has a great strategy, which is that he and Dan each choose someone and they never tell that person that Charlie/Dan are the closest two. Charlie suggests Paloma so that they have a girl, and Dan wants Ace for a different reason: we already know that Charlie doesn't trust Ace and is wary of him. Dan wants to get Ace on their side so that Ace is not against them. I guess it's like keeping their enemy close in a way. Charlie is nervous but agrees. We then see Charlie making an alliance with Paloma, but for those of you who read carefully, he says something interesting. He gives Paloma pretty much the same line as he gives to Dan in saying that they're the closest two: so if you want to extrapolate that, Charlie could potentially have a Final Two bond with Dan AND with Paloma right now. But the other one doesn't know he's said the same thing to both of them, so that's something for you guys to watch for - who is Charlie really closer to? Paloma then gets her first confessional of the season, where she recaps the alliance and reveals their name: "The Powerhouse." She says that Ace is sortof in but not really, and that the game is going well for her. And it is. 5) The Reward Challenge is a mixture of a few components of a few challenges on the show. I always liked the net challenge, but I thought there was no point to just having 8 people collect bags or flags with no purpose, so the best way for me to cut down on repetition was to pair people up. Since both tribes have 4 letter names, I also had the idea of having flags with a letter of each tribe name on them (4 pairs = 4 letters = 4 flags), and then the turnstile to raise the flags, so that there were a few legs to the challenge. But I needed every pair to compete in the physical part so that Susie could once again slow down her tribe. I said in last week's notes about Susie's story being somewhat linked or tied to Matty's. Here that was true, literally. Notice how Matty has always been the one to comment negatively about Susie (the hike, waking him up at night), and then he was stuck with her in the challenge. 6) The "unified" Fang tribe won the challenge quite easily, but the one thing I wanted to address was Gillian sitting out since it becomes an important plot point. When Jeff asked Fang, almost EVERYONE immediately said Gillian and it was like she had no say in it. At the Immunity Challenge, Ken makes the comment "We can't sit Gillian out" and she feels like she's not getting a chance to prove herself because she WANTS to compete in the challenges. More about this in a bit. 7) After the challenge, Jeff explains the new twist for Exile and the strategy becomes: send a weak person who will take comfort and thus disadvantage their tribe for the next Immunity Challenge. The natural choice for Kota is Susie, also the person who has been shown to be afraid of the wild animals. Ken is the first person to bring up her name and he gives himself credit for this. Oh, and of course I threw in a grumpy confessional from Randy there too. 8) The Fang victory scene is pretty straightforward, I think, but it does give some insight into what's going on in the Fang tribe. With their fishing gear, Fang catches six fix and Dan apparently gets three of them. Randy utters a telling line that "Dan can do no wrong" (he also started the fire earlier that morning), so people are definitely taking notice of him. Perhaps not in a good way right now. There's a line or two from Ace about competing with Dan for catching the biggest fish, but thankfully I made the scene more interesting than that. After confessionals from Randy and Dan, the tribe cooks the fish and prepares to celebrate and Gillian announces that she's not going to share in the Reward with her tribe. This would certainly put a damper on the tribe's high spirits. So let's take a look at Gillian's motivations for this: she feels like she's not a part of the tribe and that the tribe views her as a weak link, and because she didn't take part in earning the Reward she doesn't want to eat the fish. I think that this might be somewhat understandable, but when a tribe is celebrating a win, this would have been a great opportunity for her to BECOME a part of the tribe, not distance herself more. I think Gillian realized this afterwards, but the damage had already been done. Of course Dan tried to keep the tribe unified too by bringing up "teamwork" again and saying that the tribe had enough confidence in Gillian to put her in the Immunity Challenge. He's probably just saying that though. Ken is the one to get a confessional about Gillian separating herself from the tribe (it could have just as easily went to Randy or Ace), and his confessional also acts as a transition to the next scene because he brags about picking Susie to go to Exile and being a strategic threat to everyone in the game. More to come from him… 9) Onto Exile Island: this is a pretty good scene for Susie, I think. She finds out that the idol is back at camp (that would suck!) and we learn that she is planning on sharing the information with Crystal so that they can find it. You had to know that this will come up later on. But now you saw why I had given focus to Susie's fears of the animals / night. She was afraid when she was with her tribe, now she's on her own. Yes, the comfort is tempting, but she knows that she CAN'T go into the hut no matter how afraid she is because her tribe has to win Immunity. Hopefully that gives her a bit of positivity and a bit of respect for sticking it out by herself. She could have taken the easy way out, but she was a trooper instead. Good job, Susie! 10) The next Kota scene begins with the tribe talking about Susie on Exile. They speculate about whether she took comfort and whether or not they will be given a penalty. Marcus gets his first confessional of the season, a fairly complex one, where he talks about all the groupings in the tribe (Crystal/G.C./Susie, Matty, and then the other four). This leads into a scene where an alliance called "The Upper Hand" is formed between Marcus, Jacquie, Sugar, and Bob. It's also the leech scene that I talked about way back in August. I tried to integrate survival and strategy here, and I hope it worked out. The four Kota members are talking in a stream, when they discover leeches. Bob talks about the best way to remove a leech and then Jacquie has a confessional about how valuable Bob is. Sugar then begins to cry (possibly the first time in my season, I forget), but she quickly laughs it off and says she's fine. You might think she's crying because of the leeches, but judging by the next confessional I think it is for a different reason. This is where the recent loss of Sugar's father comes into play. I purposely put Bob and Sugar on the same tribe for this reason, because I felt they'd have a natural connection/alliance. Sugar was emotional because she feels she found friendship with Jacquie and Bob (especially) and she believes she can trust them wholeheartedly. Marcus then proposes to be in an alliance with them - a logical thing for them to do since there's already a clear 3 and 1 scenario. Having 4 together gives them numbers right there. 11) In the next Fang scene, Dan and Charlie are talking to Ace. Although it wasn't shown, you have to assume he's already been brought into the alliance at this point. Dan says they need one more person for majority (who will that be?) and then to their faces, Ace agrees to the alliance. But he has a confessional saying that he has no intentions of going to the end with them and that one of them will have to "snake" or betray the other. This is definitely a beginning point for future storylines, but there's still a lot of ways it could go from here. But definitely something to keep tabs on. 12) Like the Reward Challenge, this challenge was a combination of elements from several challenges. This was part of the Episode 3 Immunity in China, and then I had them put together a track for the cart (similar to putting the planks in the bridge in the Episode 1 Immunity of Micronesia), and then the cart element from the Episode 5 (?) Reward of Guatemala. I think these made a good challenge together. Anyway, Fang won this challenge again, and even though they couldn't sit Gillian out, they gave her the role of only chopping the final rope. So it seems to her that they're trying to give her the least involved roles possible in the challenges since they couldn't sit her out. I think the confessional from her at the end might balance out some possible negative tones and make her seem a bit more sympathetic. Even though they just tacked her onto the end of the challenge, she got to be the one to send her tribe to victory, as she said. And she felt happy about that. :) 13) The strategy scene begins with Sugar feeling sad about having to vote someone out of the tribe again, and her new friends Jacquie and Bob comfort her. We then see "The Upper Hand" (Marcus/Jacquie/Sugar/Bob) discussing who to vote out and Marcus does most of the thinking for them in suggesting Susie before Matty. He says that Susie is the weakest AND part of a 3 person alliance that they need to split up. On the other hand, Matty is strong and the fact that he's pretty much on his own made him non-threatening. Then Marcus says something very important, which is that they need to keep their alliance under wraps so that the rest of the tribe doesn't find out. More about this to come… Anyways, after that, there is a scene of Marcus telling Matty that he'll be safe because Susie is going to go. I put a confessional from Matty in where he says he hopes nothing changes because I wanted you guys to think that it would change after that due to Crystal's persuading, but that was just being a little bit misleading. So what does Crystal try to accomplish here? I actually think this is an interesting move. She doesn't know about the alliance between M/J/S/B, but she tells Marcus and Bob that she could be voting for one of them (as a way to instill fear) and that if Susie has the hidden Immunity Idol, they might end up going home instead of Matty. Her objective was to make them vote for Matty as a safe option, rather than risk booting Susie, but this plan backfired for reasons that I will explain throughout the rest of the notes. Before that, though, we do get a confessional from Marcus explaining that Matty might be a better choice, because I AGAIN want to make you think Matty might go. We also get a snippet of a brief conversation between the Upper Hand where Bob says if they can get one more vote (their 4 + Marcus + G.C.), they can split 3 Susie and 3 Crystal to guard against the idol. If I was still doing secret scenes, the scene would have been Marcus convincing G.C. to vote out Susie, but I put a few lines of it into the recap for the next episode. Notice that in the middle of Marcus' confessional, there's a clip of the two of them talking and G.C. nods to what Marcus is saying, which is supposed to show that he will vote against Susie with them without making it obvious. The final part of this scene is a conversation between Susie and Crystal, where Susie tells Crystal about the hidden Immunity Idol and then considers playing an animal (elephant?) bone at Tribal Council. Crystal says no because then people will know the idol is at camp. I just thought that situation might be a little humorous. I almost cut it out of the episode at the end, but I had a bit more space left than I thought. 14) Tribal Council starts with them talking about lack of sleep and Susie keeping the tribe up, which links back to the first scene after the Opening Credits. Perhaps the most significant thing that happened, though, was Sugar naming the three people who she was closest to for two reasons: 1) Earlier in the episode, Marcus said they have to keep their alliance under wraps - Sugar already broke this; 2) Sugar said she was closest to "Jacquie and Bob, and Marcus," so just the phrasing of that can make Marcus seem like he's on the outside of their foursome. This whole thing is an important point that comes up next episode so I wanted to highlight it in advance. 15) I think Matty did a pretty good job of pleading to save himself, even though he was already told he'd be safe. He restated that his strength is valuable to the tribe and he tried to turn it into a positive that he voted against the tribe by saying that it proves he'll remain loyal if anyone wants to pick him up for their alliance. As you see in the Episode 3 preview, certain people DO start to think about replacing Sugar with Matty, so his pleas may have worked out well. Susie also gave a decent answer too by saying that the threat of the Immunity Idol gives her some power because they have to think twice about voting her off… 16) But here's the part you didn't see… I had to cut this all out in my editing process, so I'm going to explain it here because it's really the first time something like this has happened: The reason Marcus/Jacquie/Bob/Sugar needed to get G.C. to vote against Susie as a sixth vote was because Marcus/Jacquie/Bob all voted for CRYSTAL initially, while Sugar/G.C./Matty voted out SUSIE. That means that the original vote broken down like this: VOTING FOR SUSIE (3) = Sugar, G.C., Matty VOTING FOR CRYSTAL (3) = Marcus, Jacquie, Bob VOTING FOR MATTY (2) = Susie, Crystal This was so that Crystal would have went home if Susie played the hidden Immunity Idol. BUT neither G.C. or Matty knew about this plan. In the re-vote, everyone knew that it was safe to vote Susie, so Susie got all six votes, which is basically what you saw in the final Tribal Council because I had to get rid of the tie part entirely. (Side note: in Episode 4 of real Micronesia, there was also a tie vote that was edited out). 17) There's a few reasons why I'm explaining this: 1) Crystal feels extra vulnerable because she knows that they were willing to lose her now and that she's going to be next to go, so this is why Episode 3 makes her seem more vulnerable than you might have previously thought; 2) She thinks G.C. knew about the entire plan and basically sold her out to the rest of the tribe - this isn't true though. So you kindof needed some of this information going into Episode 3, although the way I've edited it, I'm pretty sure everything will make sense. I'm able to convey what's going on with Crystal/G.C. without having to acknowledge the tie happening anywhere in the actual story. Spoiler [+] 18) SUSIE AS THE SECOND BOOT: I'll talk a little bit about Susie here. One thing I have to say is that I never, ever, ever would have expected her to make it to the Final Three ever. She completely surprised me, and because I thought she would be out early, she was a logical choice for my second boot. But, the other thing that surprised me was how virtually ignored she was in the editing for almost the entire season. I mean, she got 9 confessionals in 2 episodes with me and it took her 8 episodes to get that many in the real show. So to all the Susie fans out there, I hope you are happy with her edit even though she only lasted two episodes. I really liked Susie's story. I think she served a good purpose with getting her little "bathroom break" scene during the hike, doing some narration at camp, making the alliance with Susie, fearing the animals, going to Exile, telling Crystal about the idol - which could continue to come into play - ,etc. That's a lot of Susie for just two episodes, and I think all of it fit together nicely and explained why she was voted off. Hope you agree! 19) EPISODE 3: Episode 3 was WAY over-length when I first wrote it, so I had to cut it down by 3+ pages and I finally got it down to 26 pages. So it is done, but I'm going to wait until January 10^th to put it up so I can continue to stay ahead of schedule on all of these episodes. I'm doing well so far. There's going to be a lot going on again, including a very heated Tribal Council. I don't want to say too much about it, but you'll see some of the stories from Episode 2 reemerging, such as Sugar outing her alliance and the repercussions from that. Also the alliance-making continues on Fang, but there will be more to the tribe than that. And I think you will find the challenges to be interesting. Hope you guys like it! :) 20) Finally, I really hope that you all enjoyed the episode, and I would once again like to offer my sincere thanks to you for reading it. COMMENTS & QUESTIONS (A) What did you think of this episode? Please be as detailed as you can, wherever possible. I thought it was great. I was upset at Kota's continued losses, but it shook up their tribal dynamics in an interesting way. I can't say that Marcus leading the alliance on Kota is unsurprising, but with characters like Bob and Sugar under his belt, I think there's certaintly potential for entertainment. On Fang, though they continued to win, I am totally calling Dan being set up for a fall, and I bet it'll be at the hands of Ace. Maybe then Paloma or Charlie will take it in their own hands for revenge. I wouldn't be surprised to see Ken go for a fall too, he seems too be too noticeable as a mental threat and obviously isn't that important physically to the team. But, right now, Ken is a little fish in a big pond of Dan, Ace, Charlie, and Gillian. I guess Michelle and Corinne were also tiny, tiny fish in the pond that is Fang, due to them getting zip this episode. I guess that's why there was so few negative tones this episode! (B) What was your overall favorite part of the episode? I enjoyed Gillian's little story as well as the emergence of Ken, Bob, and Sugar as characters. I loved those three in the real show, hopefully I'll love them here, too! Surprisingly, also really liking GC's emergence that was showcased in the way he put the team first, despite losing an ally in Susie. I think he made a good move, but only time will tell! I'm really enjoying this season because your editing is much better than the real show's was. (B) What was your overall favorite part of the episode? Crystal talking about trading Kelly for fire, and Charlie making pacts with Dan & Paloma. (C) What would you rate this episode out of 10? (1 being the lowest; 10 being the highest) 8, because it wasn't AMAZING but it was still really good and detailed. And because Crystal is still there ;) (D) Do you have any questions about this episode that you'd like to see cleared up in a future episode or at the Reunion Show? No, but I am beginning to notice a huge change to exile. In the past, the general pattern was to send the strong people to exile, but now it looks like it's becoming the opposite: send the weak people. I like how that small twist is changing exile radically. 1. SOLE SURVIVOR POLL (A) Which castaway will be the Sole Survivor? I am staying with my prediction for Charlie. 2. WHAT'S NEXT POLL (A) Which castaway will be voted off in Episode 3? I'm not saying Ken this time, because if I do then Kota will go to TC and someone I like will go home. With the alliance game on Fang, I see the outsiders (Ken, Michelle, the non-powerhouse players) forming a bond as well. Not so much retaliation, more of a defense, counter-attack sort of way, if that made any sense. 3. Ace - 6 (he didn't have anything significant this episode) Bob - 5 (the whole macgyver thing is, again, annoying like the real show was) Charlie - 9 (he's [subtly] playing a hardcore game) Corinne - 6 (if only we saw more of her) Crystal - 9 (she was also toned down, but she gets my respect) Dan - 7 (he's becoming set up like the Fang God, and I see a downfall happening (a la Marcus in the real show)) G.C. - 7 (he actually competes in the challenges and sort of strategizes, so he's already doing better than the real show!) Gillian - 7 (even though people could see her as negative, I saw her more sympathetic) Jacquie - 6 (she was there...and said a bit...) Ken - 3 (I see the whole "I'm the master-strategist" thing slowly coming alive again) Marcus - 7 (he's developing more as a character...and not a bad one) Matty - 5 (honestly I dunno what to think of him right now) Michelle - 5 (besides yelling "YEAH!" in challenges or "Mhm" at camp, she isn't there) Paloma - 7 (coming in to the alliance, I expect a lot more from her soon) Randy - 6 (toned down) Sugar - 6 (although she's becoming more developed, I can't tell if it's for the better [IMO]) Susie - 8 (she was cool and almost pulled out the return of the stick from Micro, but I agree it was her time to go)

Please be as detailed as you can, wherever possible. I thought the episode was pretty good. I'm glad we got to learn more about both tribe's dynamics, and although Kota is looking more complex, I find Fang much more interesting. Personally, I'd prefer to see Kota lose once or twice more just so the tension at Fang will result in a great first tribal council there! I was disappointed to see Susie go, but it was her time. I'm glad she was highly visible, as she was almost invisible during the season. It's too bad that Corinne and Michelle vanished, as they were interesting last episode. I know they'll return though, especially with the preview. Anyways great episode. (B) What was your overall favorite part of the episode? As usual I loved Ace's commentary about his alliance/tribal situation. Also I liked the formation of the most likely dysfunctional "Powerhouse Alliance" (C) What would you rate this episode out of 10? For more information Edgic, please visit this thread: S17 EDGIC (A) Edgic for my fanfics has been very successful over the past few seasons (including choosing Tracy as Micronesia's winner from early on), so I would love to get some reader involvement in determining Edgic ratings again. Please submit your own ratings in this thread. Ratings will be compiled and I'll post the final ratings in a chart before the next episode. Rating: INV, UTR, MOR, CP, OTT Tone: NN, N, Mixed (M) , Neutral (), P, PP Visibility: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Glad to see more edits develop. Here are my initial comments. I'll probably change some of them after seeing what others thought. (I have a lot of UTRs with tone...that might be a good thing or a bad thing) Ace - CP3 Ace got an interesting edit. He's definitely opposing Dan and Charlie, and he made that clear. He might have been MOR or CPN, but all in all, he wasn't negative enough I thought for an N, and we definitely understand how he feels about the whole alliance situation. Bob - MORP4 Same old Bob- CP+OTT=MOR Charlie - CP3 Charlie is setting himself up great for the endgame. It's only a matter of whether someone else realizes that he is controlling this game, and his alliance. Corinne - INV1 Her one or two sentences were somewhat positive, but yeah she was invisible. Crystal - CPM4 Almost an N, but her speech at tribal council pumped up her team, and the others reacted favorably. She also never gave up on Susie, so she had P in there. We also had insight. Dan - CPP4 Like last week, he's our Fang hero. As Charlie said, they all love him, and Gillian emphasized this when he helped her. He's a good guy, but his trust in Ace will set him up for a fall, while Charlie, who suspects Ace, will most likely survive. G.C. - MOR3 He was a swing vote, but the scene that involved his switch was cut. That says a lot for his likelihood of winning. Gillian - MORP3 We're supposed to root for her despite Ken and the fact that she is week. Maybe OTT, but we got insight and OTT+CP=MOR. Jacquie - UTRP2 She cheered a bit and is part of the alliance. Most likely will go far barring a twist. Maybe UTR instead of a P, but I felt that she was positive. Ken - UTRN2 He complained about Gillian and was arrogant. Not a great impression on the audience after a nearly invisible previous episode. Marcus - CP4 He's the leader. Well we're back to the same old Kota. He'll probably go far. Matty - MOR4 Underdog, a bit OTTish and CPish. He had a few negative and positive lines, but not enough to be Mixed. Michelle - INV1 I didn't realize she was there until the preview for next week. Paloma - UTRP2 I'm not sure if she is P or no tone. She's upbeat about her alliance, and out of all the girls, Dan and Charlie pick her. Glad to see her edit picking up though! Randy - UTRN1 He's just an old curmudgeon. I'm glad he got an N last week, as this episode proves he's an N even when he's hardly there. Sugar - OTTP4 She cried a bit and was all one note. Susie - MORM5 Susie was highly visible, but her boot was necessary. She annoyed her tribe, but Exile Island was all positive. She was a great character and had a huge arc for only lasting two episodes. Still hopefully her exit will allow others on Kota to develop. CONTENDERS 1. Charlie- I just don't see Charlie losing with the edit he's having. Dan told us last week that a Fang would take it home, but it won't be Dan, whose set up for a failure. Charlie's picking up on threats, and is well connected. 2. Dan- Dan overcame last episode by building the fire this time. He's the tribe's leader and a beacon of positivity. He's a decent strategist, but I sense he has a flaw in his trust in Ace, while Charlie has been pointed out as having mistrusted Ace. 3. Ace- Ace is a great character, and that may be why he too is receiving all the coverage on a tribe that has yet to go to tribal council. He doesn't trust Charlie or Dan, and will backstab them. A bit negative, but if a villain wins; right now it looks like Ace will be that man. 4. Marcus- Marcus has a weaker opening episode, but this episode he got a lot of airtime and was shown as being a strategist. I can see his edit leading him to a boot at the merge, but he might just win. He's the best hope Kota has right now. I like the Heroes + Villians alliance, as you called it in the EP3 preview, because I think that's an interesting dynamic that hasn't really been played up on the show before, and it's definitely a great tool for building tension, especially with Ace saying that at some point, their alliance will fall apart. (B) What was your overall favorite part of the episode? The alliance forming between Dan, Charlie, Ace, and Paloma. I feel as though the characters on Fang are far more interesting and likable, and so far I feel as though we haven't really seen much by way of personality in the dominant Kota alliance, especially since the most visible character on Kota (Crystal) is stranded without her closest ally. (C) What would you rate this episode out of 10? (1 being the lowest; 10 being the highest) 8.5 (D) Do you have any questions about this episode that you'd like to see cleared up in a future episode or at the Reunion Show? Dan's reasoning behind "sleeping with the enemy", as it were. I'd like to hear his thoughts on it. Also, GF, I like that you posted notes on the episode, but I'm a copy editor and a grad student in English and the rule of thumb in writing is this - if you have to explain anything you did in your piece, then your piece wasn't strong enough to get it across in the first place. In other words, I think you might be giving away too much of your thinking by posting those notes. Deleted scenes is one thing, but justification for why you wrote the episode the way you did I think might be giving up just a little too much by way of information. 1. EDGIC POLL Ace - CPM3 - I think the fact that he knows the dynamic of his alliance makes him automatically a complex personality in my mind. He doesn't intend to stay true to his alliance with Dan & Charlie, which I think disqualifies him from being MOR. Tone is hard, I'm not entirely sure he has a tone rating at all, but I feel like he needs something for his awareness of his intent to screw Dan & Charlie over, but it might not be enough for an N rating. Bob - MORP4 (OTTP4) - Lots of positive SPV. It's almost enough for PP. Yet his character isn't SO out there that it necessarily garners an OTTP rating. Charlie - CP3 - Late game edit, now with a semi-secure alliance Corinne - INV1 Crystal - CPN4 - I think her speech at TC was less about tribe unity and more about terrorizing her tribemates into a better performance. I think she's bullying in any way she can, and if she disguises it as a motivational speech, she's less likely to get called out for it. Personally, I saw little to nothing positive about her TC speech. Dan - CPP3/4 - Not sure about visibility. Fewer confessionals this episode, but has TONS of SPV. Obviously he's being built into the hero role - he's the one that should catch a casual viewer's attention, the one they should care about, the one they'll want to win, and his boot should cause all kinds of outrage with the casual fan. (Especially if it's at the hands of Ace, who's being built into the opposite role) G.C. - MORN3 - Negativity toward Susie in confessionals and tribal council. I get the feeling that he's not handling his annoyance with her fear as positively as he could. Gillian - OTTP3 - Despite my misgivings, I think Gillian is OTTP this episode because her encouragement is a little bit too highlighted. We are obviously supposed to like her because she cares about wanting to win, but I can't imagine she's going to be around very long before she annoys her tribemates. She's getting higher visibility now because she's gone soon, I think. Jacquie - UTR2 - Being led around in her alliance, letting others do the leading Ken - MORN2 - Comes off as kind of delusional and arrogant and the fact that Susie didn't take comfort backfired on his plan. Be interesting to see if his tribe makes anything of that. Marcus - CP4 - Emerges as a leader after being hidden fairly well in Ep1. Matty - MORN4/OTTN4 - lots of negativity toward Susie, even at tribal council, much the same as GC in that sense. Michelle - INV1 - same as Corinne, no confessionals, no participation in camp life, she didn't matter. Paloma - UTR2 - I can see the argument for a P tone but I don't think she was visible enough to garner a tone. The only thing that was important about her in this episode is that we find out she's the female foil against Dan/Charlie/Ace, she's not a contender, but she will be around for a while because of her alliance with them. Could eventually be important in deciding who to side with? Randy - UTRN2 - Not really much to comment on here, probably going to get an N or M tone almost every episode. Sugar - OTTP3 - Lots with the crying, just on the real show. To me, it's irritating, but she still gets the positive edit because we're supposed to feel sorry for her. Susie - OTTM5 (MORM5) - I think she could be OTT this episode because she is just so highly visible. I'd give her a 6 on visibility if I could. Contenders: 1) Charlie - While we're supposed to be paying attention to the developing Dan/Ace rivalry, Charlie is setting himself up to be in a great position in the game. 2) Marcus - Well hidden in Episode 1, emerges as a likable leader in Ep 2, sounds like a winner edit to me. 3) Dan - Edited to be a casual fan favorite, which should always be contenders or at least late game players. He's jury for sure, why waste such a visible, positive edit on someone who's gone early game? 4) Ace - He's getting nearly as much visibility as Dan, just in a different way - I don't think he has nearly as good a shot at winning as the three mentioned above I think there is little to no hope for a female winner.

Also, as much as Matty said that he needed for Susie to go, he really didn't. Now he doesn't have a story, which is one of the reasons that I don't have him as an edgic "winner" yet. Charlie: All of his confessionals have a lot of substance to them. He's complex, and somewhat under the radar. I'm really thinking that he might be our winner this season. 2. Dan: The only thing that I'm concerned about is that he might be too much of a distraction. Too good of a story to ignore though. 3. Randy: He's cooling off a little bit from that negative last week, and I think that he's being crafted extremely carefully. I wonder why... 4. Ace: He does have a good story, and he is complex enough to make it onto the list. He needs less tone though soon to stay in. I bumped Crystal down because I think that she will be a distraction, but she's not out yet! Still in the race: Ace, Charlie, Crystal, Dan, G. C., Matty, and Randy. Thank you very much for your comments, and for being the first one to reply - that was very fast! I enjoyed reading your post, and you definitely bring up some great points! I thought it was great. I was upset at Kota's continued losses, but it shook up their tribal dynamics in an interesting way. I can't say that Marcus leading the alliance on Kota is unsurprising, but with characters like Bob and Sugar under his belt, I think there's certaintly potential for entertainment. Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I was hoping it would be a bit of a surprise that Kota would continue to lose (interestingly, it's opposite of the real show right now where Fang was the losing tribe), but as I said from the start, both tribes are very interesting and I'm glad you could see the dynamics changing a bit on Kota. On Fang, though they continued to win, I am totally calling Dan being set up for a fall, and I bet it'll be at the hands of Ace. Maybe then Paloma or Charlie will take it in their own hands for revenge. I wouldn't be surprised to see Ken go for a fall too, he seems too be too noticeable as a mental threat and obviously isn't that important physically to the team. But, right now, Ken is a little fish in a big pond of Dan, Ace, Charlie, and Gillian. I guess Michelle and Corinne were also tiny, tiny fish in the pond that is Fang, due to them getting zip this episode. I guess that's why there was so few negative tones this episode! Going by Ace's quote, I think it seems inevitable that one side will probably turn on the other eventually; it just remains to be seen who it will be. Michelle and Corinne will be back next ep though, as you can see in the Preview. I enjoyed Gillian's little story as well as the emergence of Ken, Bob, and Sugar as characters. I loved those three in the real show, hopefully I'll love them here, too! Surprisingly, also really liking GC's emergence that was showcased in the way he put the team first, despite losing an ally in Susie. I think he made a good move, but only time will tell! Great to hear this. I really love Gillian as a character, and was said that I wasn't unable to put a lot from her in Episode 1. Actually, all of those four that you mentioned were pretty low-key in the premiere. I'm glad you liked how those personalities developed. I agree that it could be a good move for GC - although Crystal could be pissed off now that she lost Susie and he might incur her wrath. Please be as detailed as you can, wherever possible. I liked it. Dan is getting good air time but that worries me cause he could go down the way the real Marcus did. Then again his alliance wouldn't be complete douches to everyone. (B) What was your overall favorite part of the episode? The challenges were fun to read. Go Fang! Please be as detailed as you can, wherever possible. I liked it... I didn't think it was much of a surprise Susie was booted, especially after last episode. I liked her more as a character than Matty, though, but I didn't think she had much of a chance when it got down to the vote. Hoping Crystal can recover from that, she's one of my faves. I liked the scenes on Fang, I think there's gonna be an implosion in that alliance pretty quickly. Should be fun to watch. ;) I liked Gillian's emergence as a character, I think she'll be fun in the future... And I feel like she might last a while, maybe even to the merge, based on the comment that she's a big character in the Press Conference. (B) What was your overall favorite part of the episode? The alliance building on Fang, 'cause I think that will provide some entertainment in the future... Seems like a mismatched bunch to me. (C) What would you rate this episode out of 10? Please be as detailed as you can, wherever possible. I really enjoyed this episode a lot. Fang is still reasonably visible, and they have a very Rotu-esque type feel to them, even though Ace is a little more negative than any of the Rotus were pre-swap. The Suit Alliance is a really great idea, and Charlie is really setting himself up for the win (he is setting up a really strong strategic and social position). The little Ken interludes are fun, and he seems like he could be a good villain later one. Kota is entertaining as usual, and I really like how Sugar revealed the alliance accidently in tribal (I've always wondered why people act so stupid at tribal. It must be the seats). (B) What was your overall favorite part of the episode? I liked "Dan can do no wrong." Great line. (C) What would you rate this episode out of 10? (1 being the lowest; 10 being the highest) 9. The preview already told us that Ace wants to pull in Corinne as the fifth, and Charlie is just going to be more suspicious of Ace with this move. Kota wins reward, and Paloma goes to exile. With two clues, she, with the help of Charlie, finds the Fang idol, and Charlie tells Dan about it, but tells him not to tell anybody else that he knows, a command to which Dan abides. Kota wins immunity, and Gillian is sent home by "The Powerhouse" (god, did Charlie come up with that name? It's so ridiculous), and Ken, Michelle, and Randy go along with the majority. Perhaps Randy starts seeing into the alliance, but it's loose and unstable enough to stay relatively hidden before it factions (which it will inevitably do. Low visibility, but we saw into his head and he already plans on backstabbing Charlie and Dan before seeing his other options. Bob - MORP4. Too multi-dimensional for OTT, but too simple for CP. Charlie - CP3 (visibility edited, I copied it wrong from my spreadsheet). Nothing overtly positive or negative for him, just solid strategic play. Corinne - INV1. I forgot she existed until the episode 3 preview. Crystal - CPM4. We saw into her head a little, she was portrayed as a positive for to the tribe, but a lot of what she said and did was negative. Dan - MORP4. We didn't really get too far into his head this episode, most of that was given to Charlie and Ace, but he was shown as a positive force on the tribe. G.C. - MOR3. Pretty much a filler character at this point. He's been involved enough in the action that he has to get shown a bit, and the other fluff he's getting indicates he'll be a peripheral character for a while. Gillian - OTTP3. I felt really bad for her. She wants to compete, but her tribe is shutting her down, and she only has good intentions. Her story is incredibly simple, but a nice, happy one of a woman who wants to be there. Jacquie - UTR2. Did a little, said a little, but was mostly hidden. She hasn't really been at the center of much and is just coasting at this point. She'll be important later. Ken - MORN2. He gave too much of an impact to justify UTR with his decision to send Susie and his reasoning, and a lot of what he said was mean, but he was still a little bit under the radar. He might be a good endgame villain once Ace gets booted. Marcus - CP4. Not much to say here. We saw him, he strategized, and he was "leading" his alliance (even though the other 3 are closer w/ each other). Matty - MOR4. He feels like an otherwise peripheral character who got caught in the middle of the action early. Nothing much to say here (I almost gave him a UTR before I saw the 4 visibility). Michelle - INV1. Irrelevant. Paloma - UTR2. Said some kind of important information, but it was pretty shallow, and she had an important scene with Charlie, but she was otherwise basically irrelevant. Randy - UTRN2. The guy, even when he wasn't there, was still a jerk. Another good person to look out for as an endgame villain (and maybe one who is successful). Sugar - MORP4. I didn't feel like she was particularly one-dimensional, with her talking about her father's death and her great friendships and feeling sad to have to vote somebody out, but we didn't get too far into her head. Susie - OTTM5. Pretty simplified this episode, especially compared to the first one where we got some insight into here character. This episode basically told us that she is an annoying person.
