After watching some buzzworthy movies this past week, I thought I'd add my .02 cents to the mix. I saw Milk, Frost/Nixon, The Wrestler, Slumdog and Rev. Road this week, three of them def. deserve a Best Pic nom along with others but the other two maybe not so much.

The first one I watched was Frost/Nixon and I think it's still my favorite among the 5, Langella is amazing and the rest of the cast is as well. It's a shame that the Best Actor pool is so competitive this year because Sheen should also be recognized for his performance. The movie held my interest throughout but the scene with the phone call and the last interview were amazing, I was captivated by their performances in those scenes, simply amazing.

Milk was next, and like many of you have said, I've never really like Sean Penn too much, I've appreciated his performances but he's never been a draw for me to watch movie. He was also great in this movie, and the movie as a whole was very good as well. Josh Brolin was very good as well and he played his sad sack role impressively, I loved the part where he said something about, "Where'd you come from Latino guy?" when he was drunk. As others have also mentioned, Diego Luna sucked big time it was terrible to see him on screen, I just cringed every time he was on there. Thankfully everyone else's performance overshadowed his terrible one and made the movie good and enjoyable.

The Wrestler was one of those movies which I kept hearing buzz about but was not entirely sure I'd like it. I LOVED it, Mickey Rourke was amazing as was Marisa Tomei. The Ram is seriously one of the most lovable characters I've seen on screen this year (next to WALL-E) and Rourke made you feel for him and root for the good duy along the way. More people need to see this film and I sedriously hope it gets a Best Pic nom because it def. deserves it. On the flip side, Slumdog was also a movie I wasn't sure I would like, although I was wrong and I did like it, I feel like there are many other movies that deserve a nom over it. But if it does get the nom, I feel it shouldn't win. Out of all of the movies I saw, it's definetely the "feel good" movie of the bunch.

Rev. Road was the opposite of Slumdog, such a depressing movie! Although the acting is great from everyone and it prob. has the best ensemble out of all of them, I never particularly got around to actually liking the movie up until the end where everyone's performances just got amazing, the last few scenes from Kate and Leo were great and again, it's a shame the Best Actor race is how it is and Leo prob won't get nommed.

Overall, as of now I think Milk, Frost/Nixon and Wrestler should get a Best Pic nom and I feel The Dark Night and WALL-E were both better than Slumdog so I would be happy if they got in over it but we'll see what else is out there. Up next, some indie films, Happy Go Lucky, Wendy & Lucy, The Reader. I missed Rachel Getting Married so don't know when I'll see it. Neither Doubt or Benjamin Button really want to make me go to the theater and sit through them there so we'll see when I can catch them.
