It is the Portuguese word for Flemish, and it was given to the nearby beach (Praia do Flamengo, Beach of the Flemish) because it is believed that a Belgian owned the lands in colonial times. It is located between the Centro (city centre) and Botafogo districts on the edge of Guanabara Bay. The beachfront area is dominated by the "Parque do Flamengo" park, built by Lota de Macedo Soares on nearly 300 acres (1.2 km²) of land reclaimed from the bay and completed in 1960. The park features gardens designed by well-known Brazilian landscape designer Roberto Burle Marx. The district is serviced by three subway stations, Flamengo, Largo do Machado and Catete, and many bus lines that link it to the rest of the city. It is fairly close to the city centre and offers excellent views of Pão de Açúcar (Sugarloaf Mountain) and the statue of Christ the Redeemer. Home to many embassies and art-decó buildings, nowadays it is mostly a middle-class residential neighborhood. It's main streets are Senador Vergueiro, Marquês de Abrantes and Paissandu, in addition to the express ways of the Aterro of Flamengo, that links the southern zone to the centre of the city.

I assume in this context it is talking about the Flamengo dance. But I think that is a Spanish dance, but may be popular in Brazil. I am sure someone else will probably have a better translation.

Flamengo is also the name of a VERY popular Brazilian Soccer team, whose colors just happen to be Red and Black, which are coincidentally the colors worn by the dream teamers in that photo.

It may just be the sites are incorrectly spelling Flamenco. Brazilian soccer team eh?.. interesting. I wonder if this is the start of SP's clues for the season. She is telling us the buff colors I guess.

The obvious would be samba-themed, which I can totally imagine the O-E-A-O chorus folks doing. But that's entirely European and African influences. If they're trying to tie to the local indigenous people, what sort of thing would we get?

Mark Burnett Kartnaller, You and your friends have done an excellent job this season. I've been following your posts and links on the orgut board. The crew's' photos have given us a beautiful early view of the Tocantins area - the dunes, pools, waterfalls, capim dourado, tarantulas and snakes. It's was fun to see the Brazilians partying with the crew and producers and enjoying the natural beauty and attractions of the Tocantins area. We have to wait until the finale for confirmation, but spoiler-wise, you and your friends should get credit for spoiling the filming location, the tribal colors of red and black, the number of contestants (based on the photo of the Dreamteamers) and the places that the castaways lived , visited on Rewards and for challenges. You put a lot of time into this season. Thank you for sharing your discoveries with us here on Sucks.

And, I received a information that it's about a reward. It's who wins or stuff like that. I'm not interested in this, but apperently, one of the rewards will have to do with a "capoeira" presentation. I don't know if it's the reward itself or the challenge.

In Fiji the two tribes had to perform a "meke" after being trained by dancers. Then they performed for judges and the best tribe won. It was definitely one of the coolest challenges that season, and it would be fun for them to bring it back with a different kind of cultural dance. (Actually, say what you will about Fiji but it had some of the best challenges).
